Indeed the beast was human or so assumed to be by simply looking at her. She certainly didn't act like one but that would become apparent as soon as she sunk teeth in to Jayson's unsuspecting calf. He spoke one of the few commons words she knew but it hardly mattered and she didn't even give a brief pause to give the false sense of security it might have given him. No, but she did pause for other reasons. The taste of the individual's flesh wasn't something she had counted on. It tasted..bitter and yet sweet, like the salt and vinegar chips that Abu had tried to give to her to eat. She couldn't stomach it and spit the chunk from her mouth, fighting down the gag her body immediately reacted with.
Her lavender orbs cut back to the boy, Jayson, who pressed himself against a tree blocking himself in with nothing but a tree branch to try and defend himself as best he could. It was almost cliched scary movie comical but she didn't laugh because she was too perplexed by the turn of events as it was. How did she combat something she couldn't eat yet hungered for? This had never happened to her before. She sat back on her heels and didn't approach as much as she wanted too, but her mind assaulted her with visions of her time spent in the lab. They were loud and bright but contained only in her mind to the point that they incapacitated her with them..
A child of no more than seven, perhaps, sat back on her haunches. She was all pale, naked skin with nothing but her long locks of white to cover her body. Her skin was flawless and under the fluorescent lights gave off an unnatural glow. She didn't seem disturbed by the state of her being and acted as casual as she pleased. It wasn't surprising though since her attention had a better place to be focused.
Contained within confining quarters was a wild animal. A large feline with both spots and stripes and trimmed tan fur. It snarled and hissed, making swipes in the air with it's large, powerful paws, claws extended. The girl was pitted against this animal looking small and pitiful to the untrained eye but the to the scientists standing behind the thick, Plexiglas containment field the situation couldn't be more interesting or of more importance. This was the second stage to their experiment and they were pleased with their results thus far.
Clutched within the hand of the child was a lifeless appendage that would be mean much to the wild animal it faced down if not for the fact that it's life would soon be extinguished. The scientists scribbled down notes on their clipboards and watched closely as the girl flung the tail at the glass. They stilled and wrote then watched again. The jungle cat was sure to be missing it's tail when it came forward again with it's balance severely knocked off. It swiped and hissed exposing the sharp teeth capable of disemboweling the child before it easily but she did not look afraid.
A set of four, deep claw marks were raked across her back from the recent strike and the skin stretched and pulled as she moved but the only thing that showed in her face was determination and euphoria as a result. She pushed in to the animal's striking zone on all fours putting her face a head or two lower than the cat's own from this position despite both using the same method of travel. She was close to the animal's throat this way and the cat knew this, dropping her head to meet her enemy while protecting her throat at the same time.
The child was undeterred as adrenaline flooded her body. She threw her arms up and let both hands grab fist fulls of fur covered skin and just as she did the animal's jaws clamped down on her shoulder. She snarled out a banshee wail that ruptured her's and the animal's ears alike..
The scream of the past knocked Emilie back to reality and her ears were ringing from it. She curled a fist and slammed it in to the ground leaving an indent in the dampened forest floor. Her breath was reduced to shallow gasps like she had just finished running but her mind was far away and she didn't move towards Jayson again.
