Kaz knocked on the dorm room door before opening. It was a habit that he started since Sam moved in. While the other boy didn't ask him to, Kaz figured some kind of heads-up that it was him coming in and not a stranger would be welcome, so he just started doing it whether he knew the other boy was in the room or not.

It also gave Kaz some kind of habit or routine to make the dorm room feel more like home and less like some place he was just staying.

He carried beneath his arm a paper grocery bag filled with some items from the market. Kaz was relieved to find his roommate in their room.

"Hey Sam," Kaz said, setting the bag on his desk. He did not sit down immediately yet.

"Kaz asked, You busy?"

Sam had been easing up a lot on hearing every single person's footsteps that came near him. When he lived in Hong Kong, this was something important. You never knew whether it was a friend, some opposing gang members, or the police unless if you listen. Now, though, things seem to be different. People didn't come up to him wanting to hurt him anymore.

He could hear Kaz coming down the hallway, but didn't stand up until Kaz knocked. There was the scent of groceries and foods, a lot of them oddly familiar. He picked out a couple vegetables, but the rest of them seem to packaged. He tilted his head towards where the groceries probably were.

"Hey," Sam said, then gestured at the groceries. "What's in there?"

Kaz had a tendency to smile and gesture at Sam even though he knew the other boy couldn't see him. It was a habit and one that Kaz wasn't certain he could ever really break. He'd tried once or twice, but then Kaz wondered why he should bother. If anything, being with Sam made being who he was easier somehow. Kaz didn't know how to explain it.

He wasn't exactly used to having someone he liked.

"I picked up some stuff from the store," Kaz said, which was a way of answering the question without actually answering it. "I was wondering if you were free for the evening. There's something I wanted to try with you."

Kaz swallowed and said, "Do you like shrimp at all?"
