"Oh, ok..." Sabriel said, understanding her better now. "Why didn't you say that in the first place?"

Nicolas laughed when she said he was mean, and took a seat on the opposite side of her bed. "No, I'm not. I just don't think my surprise would be as effective in a hospital," he said. "So, therefore, the sooner you get better, the sooner you can have your surprise." He stuck his tongue out in a teasing way and smiled, laughing again.

"I"m fine. Really. See?" She pushed herself all the way up. "Really. We can go. You can give it to me now." She insisted.

Nicolas laughed. "Well, if a nurse says we can go, then I'll give it to you later, ok?" he said. He looked around, trying to find the nurse from before.

Sabriel almost smirked, but refrained from doing so. Oh, this really was hilarious.

Mery nodded in defeat. "Fine." She said. "NURSE!" This time she was near yelling.

Nurse came over, a look of worry on her face. "Is something wrong?"

Mery shook her head. "Oh no. Well, sort of. See, Nicolas has a surprise for me, but he won't give it to me until I can leave, and I might die of curiousity if I can't find out what it is soon."

Nurse nodded. "Okay, but take it easy." She said. Of course.

Nicolas laughed. "Alright. Come on, Mery, let's get you out of here," the young man said, and took her hand, helping her out of bed. He still wasn't quite sure how he was going to propose... but... he would come up with something, he was sure of it.

Mery felt like skipping, but she couldn't, anyway. "When can you tell me what it is?" She asked Nicolas impatiently. The curiousity was really about to kill her.

Nicolas smirked. "Once we get to the roof," he said, and took her hand. "Come on." With that, he began to walk out of the hospital wing, and toward the roof. Sabriel left a few minutes after them, though he headed toward another part of the school building.

Mery honestly thought she would shrivel up and die before they reached the roof. "If I die of curiousity, it's your fault." She said with a sigh. She counted the stairs going up to the roof.

"Heh, alright, but don't worry, we're almost there," Nicolas said. Once the two had reached the roof, he brought her into his arms and hugged her, kissing her forehead again. After a moment, he pulled the small box out of his pocket, and got down on one knee, looking up at her, opening the lid to the box. "Mery, I love you more than anything, and after today, I've realized that I can't live without you. Will you marry me?"

Mery felt light headed, but not like she was going to faint. She felt light headed with happiness, and shock. She felt silly for crying, but tears rolled down her cheeks anyway. "Of course!" She said softly.
