Live was about half way done with her waffles when Kaya began speaking. The food really made her feel a lot better. In fact, it almost felt like it had some kind of secret ingredient in it that perked her right back up. However, that might have not been the best thing.
Kaya's words reminded Live of something a mother would say. Not her mother because her mother hadn't really said words to her in years. Maybe for as many words as Kaya used just then, her mom had spoken that many in a year. That being said, Live was pretty use to no one ever telling her what to do or getting defense over her or anything like that. And she really wasn't sure how she felt about it.
She stopped eating, her eyes shifting off to the side as she crossed her arms, a small huff escaping her lips, "Kaya... You didn't 'bring this upon me'. This isn't the first time I've..." She paused, suddenly unsure of what exactly it was she wanted to say. After a moment of silence her voice returned, trying to remain as detached and stoic about the whole situation as possible.
"It was a demon named Score. It's a creature from my Shadow Realm who likes fights and tallies. I first encountered it a year ago, when I was first learning to summon demons from my realm. It's extremely agile and a real challenge in a fight." She paused for a moment looking back to Kaya, "If you engage in a fight with Score, you engage in a set of rules known as the Shadow Score. They are really rather complicated and while I did my best to record what I could remember, I still don't understand all of it. But essentially, it doesn't matter if you win or if you lose, if you fight with Score, it will curse your eyes. What exactly that curse is depends on how you fight and how Score wants to keep track of that."
She looked away again, her voice having remained extremely level this whole time. She remembered how emotional she had been before her day of sleep and she was trying to redeem herself. This was more for her sake than for Kaya's.
"The first time I fought him, my curse lasted for over a week. However, it was not nearly as strong. I could sleep and control it to some extant. It honestly felt...lenient. This time..." She stopped, swallowing, "This time it was very harsh. It was tortuous. It was was...." She stopped again her mind clicking a few pieces together about Score's rules that she had not understood before, "It was too much, too soon." She let out a heavy sigh.
Her eyes suddenly flashed back to Kaya with a firm look, "But hear this. This was of my own doing. I came to you because I was not in the right state of mind. I...I got desperate but I am not in need of any sort of protection or vengeance or anything of the sort. I can handle my own affairs."
Live very much appreciated having Kaya as a friend. In fact, she was the first real friend the Walker had since maybe elementary or middle school (if those people even counted). However, she still was very defensive and not the most open when it came to her personal affairs.
