Deith left his place as the reassuring deep darkness of the night would soon finally call many of the daylight creatures to sleep, and only the nocturnal ones and the ones that liked drinking and sinning would be left. He was one of those people. He was a regular of the night life, actually, but "regular" was boring and tiresome, and Deith has been quite sick of it in the past few days.

Tonight was a different case.

His analogue wristwatch said 9:00pm. After looking at the time, the demon flipped his wrist to turn his hand towards himself, and read the info on the card between his fingers for who-knows-how-many-times now. He was sure he was in the right place. Hopefully, though, he wasn't dropping by too late.

So he walked up to the door of William's clinic, and knocked. He smiled seeing the doctor's name there; it made him realize just how ironic it really was that a doctor had to prey on life. He would try to break in from a window if this were a different situation, but he wanted to come as quietly and as normally as possible, one, to not attract any suspicion, and two, to not cause the cute little cat any kind of distress. He also wore black clothes, which helped him blend into the darkness. He didn't exactly prepare much, but he's thought it out, at least.

He was going to force William to have fun tonight.

William was neither nocturnal nor one of the types who enjoyed the night, he simply did not sleep at all. However, still being new on the island, he usually had patients during the day and spent the rest of his time in other activities. On a normal night, he would not be in his office this late, but running his own practice meant paperwork, and he needed to catch up. He'd fully intended to be out of his office before sunset, but he'd had a patient later than usual and had lost track of the time.

When he heard the knock and looked out his window, William felt a jolt of fear. He hadn't forgotten what had happened this morning and he cursed himself for not leaving earlier. Giving Deith his card had been a mad impulse just like most of the things he'd done with the demon and he'd hoped to be able to avoid him longer.

He stayed in his chair a moment, actually considering hiding under his desk, until he remembered he'd left the door unlocked. Then he got to his feet and hurried to the door, hesitating and leaning against it momentarily. The taste of the other man was already filtering in, setting his emotions into turmoil and reminding him just how much he needed to feed right now. The wraith had been feeling it all day but had been trying to avoid thinking about it, and none of his patients affected his self-control as much as this man.

Licking his lips nervously, William opened the door enough to peek out, reflexively closed it on seeing Deith, and then opened it again a little wider. He was most definitely distressed that the man had actually found him, even though he had basically invited him to do so. William had been so on edge when he'd left Deith's house that he hadn't even changed out of the shirt he had been given because he didn't want the demon to follow him home if he changed his mind about letting him go.

He stood in the doorway and blinked at Deith before looking down at his feet. His masks were already falling, fists clenched tight, wavering between pulling away and drawing closer. He felt too many things and his demon wouldn't allow him to stay numb. "You remembered."

At that time that the door opened and quickly closed again, Deith didn't even have enough time to get a good look at the doctor. When William opened the door a bit wider and kept it that way, Deith was already grinning in amusement. William might be older than him, appearance-wise and maybe even in actual age, but Deith couldn't help but see the man as entertainingly adorable.

"Of course I remember," he said, holding the business card up between fingers. "Guess how shocked I was when you handed me this: shocked enough that I couldn't move from my spot for minutes."

The demon tried to angle his head to peek into William's workplace, but he quickly gave up on it and decided to focus on the doctor in front of him instead. The grin turned into his usual, seemingly innocent, smile that appeared across his lips only out of sheer giddiness around William. "I know you probably didn't have any way out of this but technically you gave me all the info I'd need to be here right now, and I'm not leaving without you. So, are you still busy? I could wait."

From what William remembered of the morning, him giving Deith his business card probably wasn't the thing that had shocked him in place the most. If the wraith could have blushed at the memory of giving into impulse even that much, he would have. As it was he just kept his gaze directed downwards as if his shoes were the most interesting things on the planet.

Why did this man's presence scramble his brain so much? Yes he was hungry, but that usually just led him to want to attack people and drain them. And while part of him did want to feed off of the demon, even though he knew he couldn't, other parts wanted to bite and tear or be torn. Or to kiss him again because it was intoxicating. Most of all, he was desperately craving any kind of touch, however much he tried to deny it. William could not connect to anyone, except physically, or possibly by hating them. He was blind to it, though. Reeling in confusion.

He didn't know what to say. He wasn't going to be able to make Deith go away, but he wasn't going to invite him in either. Silently, William finally looked up at the other man and backed up enough to let him come in. Then he turned to go towards the interior office. He was actually pretty much finished, he just wasn't mentally prepared to go anywhere with the other man quite yet. He wasn't hopeful about being able to delay long putting his paperwork away, but at least it would give him some excuse better than fidgeting for not looking at him a little longer.

Deith just as quietly entered the office, and paced around trying to get a good look at the place. He only smirked when William headed straight for the inner office, and spent a few more seconds walking around, just waiting, before following, not quite entering, just hovering in front of the door. He smiled as he leaned against the frame, with his arms crossed over his chest.

"So, what are you still doing?" he asked. It was quite obvious William was just trying to avoid him as much as possible, and it amused Deith for the while. He moved his head, trying to get a better angle to see what William was buying himself some time with. Ah, papers.

Instead of asking about that, Deith decided to deny what William must have been trying to delay: them being together in the night to hunt. Or maybe talking about what happened in the morning. "How are you feeling, Will? You didn't try to feed without me, did you?"

"Cleaning up." It was pretty much true. Sure he was mostly just delaying, but he did have some paperwork to tidy up. He hadn't completely finished it, but it wasn't urgent, and he doubted he'd be able to concentrate on it anyway with the other man there.

He could feel Deith's eyes on him and it was agitating. William didn't know what he was feeling or if any of his turbulent emotions weren't even his own. Especially keeping him on edge was the fact that Maria was whispering suggestive things in his head, mostly things he had done with the man already.

How was he supposed to deal with two demons? It wasn't fair.

Even after he had his papers neatly stacked and filed away, William didn't look at Deith. He just stood awkwardly at his desk, fidgeting with the gloves he had put on as soon as he reached his office. He always kept spares to reduce temptation, though that didn't always help.

He was attempting to avoid the other as much as possible while in his tiny interior office, even though it was pointless, especially if he was going to end up going out with him anyway. He didn't think he stood a chance of escaping that now. Mostly, though, he was just trying not to look at him. The thoughts going through his head were bad enough - William didn't want to know if Deith was still covered in scratches that he'd caused. He didn't need any reminders. And the fact that they were probably covered up by the demon's shirt didn't reassure him one bit.

At the question, he held up his gloved hands in a helpless gesture. "I try not to feed on my patients and I have been here since- all day. But I can feed by myself!" Still avoiding Deith's gaze, his voice lacked force. "And I feel fine." That was a blatant lie. He was hungry and confused and not as against being around Deith as he was trying to pretend to himself he was.

Deith didn't doubt it-- that William was capable of many things without him. After all, they haven't exactly known each other that long, they've only met a couple of times-- this being the third if he got that right, though it didn't exactly feel like they were new acquaintances. The realization kept Deith staring from where he leaned against the doorway, and he inspected the doctor curiously and meticulously, forgetting for a moment that he was here mainly to bug and irritate the hell out of the guy. For a moment, he was thinking carefully about William.

He wanted to know more details. He wanted to know what William was normally like, whenever he attended to patients and tried to act like he didn't like draining people. He wanted to know who the doctor's acquaintances and friends were-- well, just acquaintances since he did mention not having any friends-- and how such acquaintanceships have been. Deith was deep in thought, and all this time he was staring at William.

His grin was amused, but his eyes were rather soft and out of character. Realizing this, Deith finally pushed himself away from the doorframe and straightened himself, shaking his head once to get rid of the expressions he just made. And then he was back to the usual Deith that appeared in front of the doctor.

"You feel fine, you say? I don't believe you." Well, Deith didn't really feed on William that much this morning, but he knew that lust itself drove both of them crazy. He knew how frustrated William was that he couldn't feed on him, the doctor had said he was hungry, and it was all the reason Deith needed to keep on being stubborn.

He didn't exactly have anything else to say though; he had said he'd wait, and he didn't mind just watching William quietly, wondering if it would raise some anxiety if he didn't speak more. But Deith shrugged the thought off, and soon made his way to the desk to stand opposite the doctor.

"Won't you look at me?" he asked, and the way he did so softly was obviously fake and teasing. But it was at least true that he wanted William's eyes on him. "Hey, I know you're not fine. And I know you know you can't lie to me. I did say I'll wait for you to finish no matter how long it takes, but we're going out there whether you like it or not. And I bet you both like it and not, don't you?"

They'd only known each other a very short time, but Deith had stabbed through his defenses the first time they'd met, and William had never gotten a chance to recover. He hadn't even been on this island that long - already it was proving him right - it was breaking him slowly into pieces. It wasn't solely the fault of the other man - he hadn't been entirely stable before. The demon in his head, a lack of connection.

People on the island were different, nearly all of the ones he'd met. Before coming here, William hadn't even had acquaintances, just patients. He'd been solitary and hiding, with only Maria for company. Never daring to get close and able to kill almost wantonly, though he'd still made shows of resistance, still chosen his victims carefully so they couldn't fight back. But even the people here who were more than just a potential meal or a helpful facade didn't know him.

He wasn't afraid of blowing his cover or of hurting Deith or of Maria hurting him. And the other man had a hold on the wraith - had watched him feed, had hurt him and not hurt him and it felt good and he wanted more and he just couldn't deal with this. The intimacy - William hadn't been that close to anyone who wasn't literally burning him alive in over 150 years. He was uncomfortable with handshakes. With his bare hands, he only touched people he was feeding off of, and even then he kept his distance.

William was all terror and desire and anger and hunger and had been since the moment he'd known Deith was at the door. And if Maria was playing with his emotions, it was only by increasing things already present.

Everything was just too different. He fidgeted and shifted. It felt necessary to be stubborn to the last moment, as if giving in too easily to Deith would mean giving in elsewhere, as if he could keep himself intact with lies and broken masks.

But he couldn't. He looked up blank-faced, but his eyes couldn't hide. No point delaying any more. "I am done. Let's go then." He didn't answer the question, even if Deith already knew the answer. He didn't move closer either. Just because he was going with the other man didn't mean he couldn't stay as far as possible from him and not touch him, right?
