The canopy above the trees sparkled with sunlight, more greens and blues shone through the leaves, on top of the normal sunlight. The ground seemed to be covered in a sparkling mist. It was a gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous day. The tall girl walked, absorbing it all, her callused feet making no noise on the ground. Her expression was one of wonder. She continued to walk, alone, her eyes feasting on all it could see.
Aulalie looked back, to where her loyal pack would be. But there was no one behind her. The soft pads of movement that usually followed her everywhere, wasn't here. Only then, did she realize, there was no sound at all. No birds, no bugs. No streams, no breeze moving branches and leaves. Aside from her, it was silent. She hunkered down into a crouch, hands fast on her spear, eyes narrowed. She sniffed...and smelled nothing.
The panic set in slowly, and she began to run, realizing this wood was not hers. Slowly, as she ran and ran, she realized she was dreaming, and the wood got darker, and darker, til it blacked out entirely.
Keeping her eyes shut, Aulalie heard the natural sounds of a forest. Sniffing, she smelled the scents of many trees, and animals she knew. With a sigh of relief, she opened her eyes from her sleep, the nightmare over. It was dark, and it took a minute before her eyes adjusted. When they did, she rolled to her feet.
This was no dream, she was alone. And it was night time, in the woods of her dream. Her face morphing, vocal cords changing, she howled, long, and hard. Upon hearing no response, she nearly choked. there was nothing she could do, however, and moved forward. Wallowing in loneliness was not something the young woman had in her nature. Her spear in hand, she began to run, finding a game trail quite easily, and soon, coming across a human path. Aulalie stopped at the edge of it, baiting. This was definitely not her wood.
Where was she?!
