When 300 showcased her fingers as she said her age, Shay wondered why she was doing that whenever talking about anything with numbers. Was it because 3000 thought Shay wouldn't understand otherwise? Or was it some tick? Shay didn't know, so she didn't bring it up.
Sitting down, Shay was much more casual than when she stood around talking. She wasn't still, not abnormally so. She shifted, so she was facing toward 3000 and laid her hands in her lap, which seemed the safest place to lay them. She felt she was too close to the other girl, at least in touching distance, but she didn't move away. Shay watched 3000's hands as they spoke, ensuring the other girl wouldn't reach over and touch her.
"I run to clear my head. Fitness is one benefit, though. I like the freedom it gives." Shay hesitated, then said, "when I run fast enough, I sometimes feel like I'm flying, and that's even better."
Mansmasher3000 widened her eyes at the girl's explanation. It was a new way to look at running. It intrigued her that her reasons were not the same as hers. "Freedom." She gazed at her knees, unsure if she had ever felt that way while running. Mansmasher3000 felt free when she figured out a new trick with her ice powers, or if she had some free time to herself. It made sense that going fast and expressing all your energy into that one thing would make you feel free. It wasn't as if she had to run.
You would think that the feeling of flying would be something that she wanted, after being named after a toy plane. She then quickly looked up at Shay, wondered if she ever wanted to actually fly. "Have you ever wanted to fly? Like a bird?" She tilted her head, moving a bit closer to Shay. "Maybe we could make you some wings, or befriend someone that can fly. Or one of those people that can transfer powers." Her head ached at all the unique powers that filled the island.

The idea of having someone fly her around was not something Shay liked. MNot only would it require physical contact, but it gave someone else control over her life. What if they dropped her? What if they crashed? No, she wouldn't trust someone with something as important as her livelihood.
So, Shay shook her head, giving 3000 a rueful smile and held up her hand, so the palm faced the other girl. "As I said, I don't like touching people. It has to do with my powers. I see death when I touch people, a lot of it." She wanted to say more, to make sure this girl understood that the power was not cool as some might have deemed it, but at the same time, Shay didn't like talking about it more than she had to.
For a second, she smiled brightly, thinking that her idea had touched her, made her think, or even consider a future with flying. It was a nice moment to feel that. Mansmasher3000 felt as if her words had reached the girl. Perhaps she could set up a private flight for her? That would be expensive, even with all the powers on the island.
She tilted her head to the side as the girl raised her hands. AH. That explained a lot. "Oh I see, death." She never had asked the girl for her power. Something like seeing death when she touched people couldn't be easy though. How would you hug someone? Or hold their hand or high five? She hoped that she didn't always see death though.
"There has to be some way around that." She backed up and leaned up against the bench, pondering what they could do. Mansmasher3000 wasn't going to pry on her powers though, to get a solution. "Maybe making wings, like asking some aerodynamics people how to make them would work." There wasn't a certain answer though, as with the addition to powers, they could maybe just enchant something and have that make her fly.

Shay tapped her right foot, fingers drumming on her knees. She smiled strenuously at 3000. "I'd rather focus on my writing than trying to find ways to fly. That's for others with the powers to do so. I'm content being on the ground. Erm, what about you? Did you want to fly or something?"
Shay didn't understand why this girl was trying so hard to help her out with her powers, with flying, with anything. What did it matter to this girl? Why did she care?
"Oh." She answered meekly. It seemed that there wasn't a way past it. If only she could be a true friend to this girl, to be able to show her some fun times, rather than see her have to 'deal' with her powers. She pouted, feeling a bit sad that someone like her would be granted such powers. That wasn't fair. She stopped though, as she didn't want to give off the impression that she was pitying her.
"I don't know really." To be honest, it may just be the fact that she didn't have many friends, ones that liked her sometimes childish actions. "Maybe because I like to help others?" She smiled brightly, hoping that her words had a higher demeanour then her previous statements.
"So you write?" Mansmasher3000 wanted to change the topic, feeling as if the talk of death and unrequited dreams wasn't what they needed to hear. "Do you make up your own stories?" She interrogated the girl, flopping her feet harder underneath her. "Or maybe you write about yourself and your day, like a diary or a personal journal?"

Shay couldn't help but smile back if only to encourage 3000's sweetness. It was hard to dislike people like her.
"I don't write in journals," Shay said with a flush. Okay, maybe talking about writing wasn't a better topic than her powers. She didn't think she was very good at it and she didn't want to highlight that fact for others. "I never know what to say about myself, so it's pure fiction for me."
"It can be weird to write about yourself." Mansmasher3000 nodded, knowing the feeling. "I've tried to a few times, to log in what I did on a certain day, or to say how I feel." She made a bleh sound. "It's too, mushy. It's like you are writing out what you think, for everyone to see." She tapped her left foot on the ground, barely touching it. "I would rather keep it in my head."
"Fiction?" She said gleefully. "That's my favorite. There is so much you can do when you miss it up you know?" She thought of all the books she had read, the stories she had heard and felt a part of. It was magical. "I love going into a different world." She smiled. "If you would let me, I would love to read some of your word, or hear your ideas."

As 3000 described her love of fiction, Shay nodded enthusiastically. That was the same way she felt when reading a good book. "Yeah! Books just open up this whole new world, where you can be anyone and feel all these new things. Getting to live more than your own life is an awesome experience." Some of her excitement was drained when the other girl asked about her own writing. "I," crimson colored her face, "I'm not that good at writing. I post some of my stuff online under a pen name, but..."
"Right." She too didn't see the point of keeping a journal. Maybe if that persons had a bad memory or there was some amazing moment, but day to day activities seemed so monotone. Mansmasher3000 felt it weird that journals had to be personal too, as they may as well be some locked up diary. Journal just sounded more grown up.
She nodded to all the girls' points, as they all made sense and filled her with a sense of belonging, as the figure beside her understood. "S-So you're still getting used to it?" As she saw Eroshay's face, she too got a bit flustered, as if she had hit some major artery in her life. "I mean don't we all put down our work? I know I have." She smiles brightly, hoping that her rather bland words would cheer the girl up.
