Enelya felt very at peace here in the tree with Allen. She didn't need to say anything, and neither did he. Though she knew eventually some words would be exchanged. Silence wasn't exactly 'interesting' by her standards. She opened her eyes and looked out onto the horzion.

The beauty of this world continued to amaze her. And she thought it probably always would. She could stay up in the trees and admire the sunsets all her life... Which would be a very, very long time. She then turned, curious about what Allen saw important in this world. He'd been around for so long...

"Allen... What's important to you here on Earth...?" She thought for a moment. She wondered what it would be like on a different world. A different planet would be very interesting... She wondered if her powers would work there too, but with alien plants! That would be so neat...

"Allen... What's important to you here on Earth...?"

The question caught him off guard, and Allen blinked at the sudden lack of silence. He lifted his head and looked at her, biting his lip. He thought, unsure of how to answer that question. All of his years he had been just drifting, really. He didn't consider any of his life actually living. There was a difference between living and being alive. "Well... um..." The immortal shifted somewhat.

What was important to him, or what was important in the world? He supposed it was the same thing... and he was taking too much time to think. What could he say, though? The question had come completely unannounced and it had surprised him. However, after a few more moments of thinking, the answer came to him.

"Two things, really," he said. "The genuine kindness and compassion that the world seems to lack greatly these days." He paused. "There were times when people could help each other and share things and stop whatever they were doing just to help someone. And they didn't expect anything in return, either. They helped and they talked and they shared just because there was no reason not to. There was no reason to fight... and sometimes it takes such drastic measures to make people realize that inside, we're all the same..." Allen hated when things came to that. It always took war, illness, or hate to make people realize just how much they really cared and just how much there was no reason to bicker.

He smiled now, the grim thoughs disappearing. "And music. Music is just one of the ways people can let their souls cry, or scream, or be happy... and it's really the way people release themselves and how we can identify with each other..." Allen shook his head. The things he found important would probably end up being trivial next to what Enelya thought.

"What about you?" he asked her, really wanting to hear what her answer would be. He wasn't one to ask a question and ignore the answer he received.

"Well... um..."

Enelya tilted her head, and as Allen shifted his weight, she knew she was in for a good answer. A good, honest answer; she liked that. Her questions were surely provoked by her natural “Curious George” nature.

“There was no reason to fight... and sometimes it takes such drastic measures to make people realize that inside, we're all the same...”

Enelya, listening, found great truths in his answer. People these days did lack a certain level of kindness that Enelya wished they would show. She still believed they possessed it, just maybe they didn’t see a reason to express it like they used to. But then, she was glad that Allen too, a knight of long ago, (and the knight of her heart) believed that. That even though he had the capabilities of doing so, he believed there was really no reason. She wondered if he had always felt this way, or if her recent friendship had swayed him. Enelya nodded, agreeing with him. She laid a hand on his leg to comfort him, clearly it was a bitter subject for him.

"And music. Music is just one of the ways people can let their souls cry, or scream, or be happy... and it's really the way people release themselves and how we can identify with each other..."

A small smirk creased Enelya’s face. Of course music! She couldn’t say that she had seen him happier than when he was playing his guitar and singing. Why, the sheer horror on his face whenever she said it might be longer than a day or two for his lungs to recover petrified him.

"What about you?"

Her smirk spread into a smile, and Enelya looked at Allen lovingly. She looked out into the horizon, and enjoyed its simple beauty. She really was in the love with this Earth. This…planet that she wasn’t natural to. She was an act of science and experimentation… But, she loved it anyways.

“Life.” She responded finally. “How fragile it all is, despite our defense mechanisms, our strength… It hangs so delicately onto nothing. So… Beautifully.” She was lost in thought for a moment, and turned her head away, gazing into space. “Perhaps that’s what makes it so beautiful; how brittle it all is. It isn’t something that can be replaced, once lost, and it isn’t something that…” She laughed, “can normally be conjured out of nothingness.” Of course, a science abomination like herself twisted that law. “It’s something I can create, but… not something I truly have.”

Life… Was something that was artificial in her being. It was fused into her with tubes and chemicals… destroying its beauty. She believed she was an imbalance to the world, and didn’t belong… Though she seemed to do some good… despite her unnatural presence. Perhaps that was why she still thrived in such a life; that there was good to be done, and other lives to touch.

Allen was glad for the hand that comforted him. The way people behaved today sickened him. It was, indeed, a bitter subject that angered and frustrated him right down to his core. Even with all of his years, he just didn't understand how things could have changed so much. People went from caring for others to wanting to destroy them... and it just didn't click in his head.

“How fragile it all is, despite our defense mechanisms, our strength… It hangs so delicately onto nothing. So… Beautifully.”

She was right about that. Life was important to, and the way she put it was something the immortal had to agree with. Maybe he couldn't die, but he remembered what life had been before eternity. Life relied on nothing but itself and the smallest thing could end it, like scissors to a string. All it took was one slip to end it all.

“It’s something I can create, but… not something I truly have.”

Eyes softened at this and Allen offered her a small smile. Enelya had been created for scientific purposes — she hadn't been born like almost every other being in this world had been. His next words were the only ones of solace he could offer, but he hoped it would be enough. "Simply specifics," Allen told her. "You're one of the few people I've seen who's truly alive, Enelya... seeing the beauty in everything and not afraid to dance along the beach... maybe you don't have an 'actual life', but isn't being alive what counts? Isn't it the fact that you enjoy the time you have on this earth that really contributes to anything?"

Allen hoped that his words might be of some help. It was the truth — as he had always believed, there was a difference between living and being alive, and being alive was really more important. "What's the most important thing you could do while you're alive?" he asked her, wanting to change the subject a bit to something happier. Knowing Enelya, it would probably be something that was really worth doing.

Her hand seemed to soothe his agony, and there wasn't much for her to say. Only for Enelya to be there for him. It wasn't something that could be simply changed with words, but just something to change mentally within yourself. Just because the world is cold, doesn't mean you have to be also. 'Be the change you wish to see in the word.' Mahatma Ghandi.

His words however were wonderfully satisfying. She could tell he wasn't used to trying to consol people, but his effort shown through brightly. That's all Enelya needed. She smiled softly, and leaned in, and kissed him gently on the cheek. "Thank you. That means a lot to me." She said simply.

"What's the most important thing you could do while you're alive?"

A big smile graced Enelya's face, and she blushed. She looked down at her hands, fumbling with the lining of her shirt. She looked up at Allen, who really wanted to know such an answer to her question. She could create life... Even though she was artificial...

She looked back up and Allen, her cheeks still flushed, and it was apparently embarrassing for her to say. Though she loved Allen. She couldn't be dishonest with him. "To have children..." She whispered. She laughed for a moment, thinking of the joys of being a mother for a moment. "I think one of the biggest things you can do with your life is have children... To pass on your love..." She leaned on Allen's shoulder, and wrapped her arms around his own arm.

"Thank you. That means a lot to me."

Allen smiled softly. Maybe his words wouldn't convince her much, but as least it had meant something to her. He really had to work on comforting others, if only just for Enelya. There was no one else he cared about, to be honest. All the other people in this academy annoyed him beyond belief and often decided to provoke fights. Enelya kissed his cheek and he smiled again.

As soon as he asked his question, a large smile had come to Enelya's face. Unable to keep a straight face when she seemed so happy, a smile of his own graced his face. Eyes watched as she fumbled with her shirt, wondering what kind of an answer would cause her to smile, have red cheeks, and act what he thought was a bit nervous.

"To have children..."

The answer shocked him slightly and the man blinked as his mind traveled to the place in the back of his head where he stored the painful memories. Having a child had, indeed, been a great experience... passing on knowledge, love, seeing them so happy over the smallest things, seeing them grow, that naivety and simplicity of their thoughts... he couldn't blame Enelya for thinking it would be important.

"I think one of the biggest things you can do with your life is have children... To pass on your love..."

Allen finally wound up smiling. "It's a big responsibility," he said. Enelya probably realized that, though, and she would probably be a great mother. She was the amazing Plant-Lady, after all. "But it's a great feeling to be relied on, to see someone grow and go through life just like you did..." Even if Emily had never really grown up, he had at least gotten to witness and be a part of her childhood. In a way, it was like reliving being a child when she had been around... but that had been so long ago that he wondered if it was still the same now. "I can't blame you for thinking it's important."

Enelya smiled, and knew that Allen had already experienced the joys of being a parent. Though, he did not get to enjoy the whole thing. He never had the chance of seeing his little girl grow up completely. What a shame it was...

She wrapped her arms around Allen's right forearm, and closed her eyes, about to fall asleep. She yawned, and rested her head lightly on his shoulder. Enelya yawned softly, and nuzzled her face gently into his arm, enjoying Allen's presence. It was funny how things turned out...

One minute the two of them were arguing...

The next they were in love...

Crazy world. Crazy world indeed. In a world where immortals, Plant Ladies, and many other interesting individuals could exist, it wasn't really any surprise at all that something as bizarre as them falling in love.

And slowly, Enelya fell asleep on Allen's shoulder.

Allen looked at her as she wrapped her arms around his. He smiled softly as she yawned and nuzzled her head into his arm. Love was such an amazing thing... no matter how hard one tried to stop it, it was an impossible thing to do. Love was going to happen, whether the people wanted it or not. It was funny how people realized it, too... he had been yelling at Enelya for scaring him, and all of a sudden, it had slipped out.

If he lost her, he had no idea what he would do. Allen would be so lost without her... so entirely, completely lost... she was so different from Esme. So much warmer, so much kinder; she wasn't someone who would abandon him. He would stay by her side, even if death parted them. Death only delays love, after all — it never truly stops it.

As she fell asleep against him, the immortal gazed at her, passing time by watching her sleep. She was so beautiful when she was sleeping... but then again, she was beautiful all the time. Kissing her head lightly so as not to wake her, Allen rested his own head back against the tree, slowly plotting out a nice surprise for her in his head. Grinning at his plan, the knight finally fell asleep himself.

~

The sunlight finally hit him. Eyelids twitched before finally opening and Allen blinked, taking a moment to remember where he was. He finally looked to Enelya and smiled, not going to speak until he was sure she was awake. It just gave him more time to plot.

During the night Enelya dreamed of colors and seasons. Through and through she took care of the forests, and the animals, and with the seasons, her own skin seemed to change as the plants do. Until she found her feet rooted to the ground, as if she was losing all of her human quailities.

—-

Enelya stirred quietly as the felt the sun's warmth upon her face. She smiled, and blinked her eyes open with a sleepy yawn. She rubbed her eyes, and turned to Allen, seeing that he too, was awake. She gave him a goofy grin, and touched his cheek lightly. "Goodmorning." She said, in a very sleepy voice.

Allen grinned as he saw Enelya awaken. She touched his cheek and he smiled, lifting his hand and intertwining his fingers with her own. "Hello," he said, his own voice a bit tired as well. He hadn't gotten as many hours of sleep last night as he usually did, but then again, he almost always slept for twelve hours or more. It wasn't like he ever had anything better to do. Now he had Enelya, though, so his routine would probably change so he could spend as much time with her as possible.

"Did you sleep well?" he questioned kindly, brown eyes gazing into her beautiful purple ones. After a bit of a conversation, he would inform her that he had a surprise for her. Hopefully she would end up liking it.
