Celeste placed the baskets of vegetables and other ingredients on the long 15-foot table to the one side of the blackboard and her desk. There were eggplants, zucchini (or courgettes), summer squash, onions, peppers - both red and orange, fresh tomatoes, heads of garlic, fresh basil, and some lemons. There were also bottles of virgin olive oil, mozzarella, and feta cheese and a few loaves of french bread, baguettes.

Then she proceeded to write the name of the recipe on the blackboard in big bold letters: Ratatouille

Ratatouille, a very well-known French dish, was one of her favorites. It was also extremely easy to make despite what many people thought. The hardest part was actually preparing everything beforehand so that they cooked evenly and the flavours blended properly.

Putting the chalk down, Celeste went over to the sink to wash and dry her hands before her students began to arrive.

Amber prided herself being among one of the first to arrive a few minutes before class and home economics was no exception to her! When she swung open the door and strides inside with her 8 legs, looked to her teacher and beamed a pointy toothed smile to her.

"Good day Miss Celeste!" enthusiastically greeted Amber, as she usually did before the start of class. She walked up to one of the long tables, inspecting the ingredients before looking up at the chalkboard. She raises an eyebrow, then looks to the teacher and asks:

"Ratatouille? Like the dish? Are we going to make that? Or... are we going to watch the Pixar movie? The one with rat that wants to become chef? You know the one that I am talking about right Miss Celeste?"

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Followed shortly by Amber, Aedes followed shortly behind the spider though her eyes seem glued to her phone. Aedes doesn't even bother saying hi to the teacher or anything, instead she takes seat near one of the back corners of the rooms. Even as she texts on her phone she seems to listening to the conversation going on as she added:

"Yeah... are we just going to have an easy day watch some kids movie for change? I mean... we all know a class learning how to cook is about as much of a joke as the stupid rat from the movie."

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Amber glared back at Aedes making her snarky comment in the back, she thought for a moment to say something to but that just the sort of attention she knew Aedes would have wanted anyway so she held her tongue. Instead she just ignored her and looked to teaching, trying to hide her earlier annoyance with her fellow student. She figured that if Aedes says something out of line the teacher could handle it.

Turning around as students started entering the classroom, Celeste smiled warmly at Amber and just followed Aedes with her gaze as she moved to the back of the room, very used to her student's behavior and not at all offended.

"Good day to you both, Amber, and Aedes," she said to her students as she moved over to where Amber was at the table of ingredients.

"We are going to make Ratatouille which is, in fact, the dish that the rat in the movie makes," she chuckled, having seen the movie herself.

Euphemia was not a good cook.

Her experience with food was limited at best. She didn't need to eat it for sustenance, and due to the various quirks of her physiology, her sense of taste was...muted. As a result, her culinary skills were limited to occasionally brewing tea and coffee for her superiors, never really seeing the joy in it for herself.

So, lacking a need or a want for food, she struggled to find a reason to attend a class like this. Perhaps if she was still a member of the church, such skills might have come in useful every now and then. But she was alone now. Learning would not benefit anyone other than herself.

Regardless, she was a student now, and as a student, she had new obligations to fulfil. So she arrived at the class promptly, silently entering the room among her other new classmates and finding a workstation to use. She scanned the room, taking note of the rest of the students and filling the information away for later while she awaited the teacher's instructions.

Though she disliked her lack of skill, Elisa knew that it was important for her to learn how to cook. That was why during what would have been a free period in her senior studies, she instead chose to join the Home Economics class. She wasn't worried about losing time, though. She rarely spent much time asleep anyway.

"Hey miss," She said as she walked into the classroom, already tying up her Apron, her hair already held back. "What are we making today?"

Glancing up from her conversation with Amber, towards the door as two new students filed in, Celeste smiled at each one and greeted them warmly.

"Good afternoon, Elisa, and you too, Euphemia, welcome to the class, if you have any questions, please don´t hesitate to ask," Celeste said recognizing the new girl from her class records when they had been passed onto her by reception when she had signed up for the class.

"And we will be making Ratatouille. It's sort of a French vegetable stew," Celeste explained to Elisa and anyone in the class who might be interested..

"Sounds good Miss Celeste!" piped up Amber as she stood by the tables, eager to get started with the dish of the day. While Amber never thought herself as much of cook, part of her was still willing to learn how to make the Ratatouille. Admittedly its was a dish that that held little appeal over her considering her carnivorous diet but that doesn't meant this won't be fun!

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Aedes just rolled her eyes and kept tapping away on her phone, at least until she had to do actual work or if the teacher decided to start bitching at her. It was hard to pay attention to a class that she personally care little for, only taking it for the supposibly easy A. It wasn't like she would being drinking some smelly frechman's veggie soup... she was bloodsucker after all not some sap drinker.

Celeste turned back Amber when the other students had taken their seats, and nodded to her student as she passed her a smaller wicker basket so she could take some vegetables back to her station.

"Help yourself to the vegetables, you will basically need one of everything, except the tomatoes..." Celeste explained as she picked up a ripe one from the basket, "I'd take 4 or 5, depending on how big they are." she explained.

Celeste then told the rest of the class the very same thing, that they could each come up and get their vegetables from the baskets on the table and take them back to their cooking stations.

Amber nods and sets about gathering one of each vegetable from the basket, except for the tomatoes, as instructed. With her selection gathered, she places each of the ingredients neatly by her cooking station. After briefly organizing her vegetables and cookware, Amber awaits further instruction from her teacher.

"Okey ready! Whats next Ms. Forestier?"
inquired Amber, ready to get cooking!

Aedes on the other hand, was not so eager. She waits until until everyone else picks up her vegetables before she grabs whatever selections remained. Having not really paid attention, Aedes ends up grabbing one of each vegetable, tomato included, and lays them all together in one single messy pile at her cooking station. With her task complete, Aedes goes back on her phone as she waits for Celeste to tell what to do next as she figured that she would basically handhold them through the entire cooking process.

Euphemia collected her vegetables without delay, believing it best to complete her tasks quickly. She was taught to be fast and efficient while in the order, and she assumed that the school would have a similar policy in regards to her tasks. After she had a quick look at what the other students were doing, she laid out her ingredients on the table, before politely folding her hands and awaiting further instructions.
