Luna didn't know where she was. Well, she knew where she was, just... not exactly where. To put it in the most simplest of terms, Luna was lost in the forest. Very lost. The girl wandered aimlessly, her footsteps treading light on wry pathways. Barren trees littered the canvas of her vision, their chapped trunks dyed in dark umber hues as they towered to the skies like spires reaching for the heavens. The once lush canopy of this forest had transcended into pure white, more delicate than an angel's feather, more immaculate than shimmering diamonds. Surrounding winter winds were harsh, piercing, but not all that unwelcome for they too furnished the ambiance with something very uniquely winter. Luna paused in her tracks, her palm shifting to grasp the hilt of her blade as she always had when feeling uncertain. The midday sun had long been shrouded by drifting clouds, diminishing its radiant luminescence to a suspended gloom; a telltale sign that time had dragged to late afternoon. If she couldn't find her way out soon, she'd be stuck here till morn.

The girl signed, long and heavy, her warm exhale creating a small plume of translucent fog. She stepped back, leaning her weight against the trunk of a nearby tree for a short rest. Within a few moments of staring into a distance, she heard tune begin to play. A hallucination, she initially assumed. But such a melody seemed too beautiful, and more importantly, too foreign to be born from a figment of her own imagination. Eventually, she came to the conclusion that the musician playing the tune might know the way out.

Thus, Luna followed the song, enticed by each note, each crescendo, each tempo, until she finally found the source. A simple man clad in kimono sat atop a rock with his back turned away. From where she stood, she could only see his jet black hair pulled into a neat ponytail. The girl waited till his song ended, not wanting to interrupt such a tranquil piece. Stepping in a little closer, she kept her tone even, her was voice soft though still audible.

"Hello. I apologize for the intrusion, but do you happen to know a way out?"

Life had little meaning anymore, in this strange place, so far from his home, he felt no purpose. There were no wars to fight, no conflicts that needed him, and he had very little skills outside of combat. So he often found himself in isolation, or perhaps he sought it out. Quiet places where he could meditate and play his music.

Now was such a moment, as he sat on a rock, his flute at his lips, the music filling the otherwise quiet forest. He didn't know how long he played when the girl appeared but she was polite enough to let him finish his song. He'd lower his flute, looking at her a moment before speaking. "Do you only come to these forests often," he'd ask her, slipping the flute away into a pockey.

"Venturing in these deep without knowing the routes seems unwise," he'd tilt his head, standing from the rock and making sure his weapons were inn their proper place on his side. "But yes, I know the way out, I can show you if you wish."

The boy turned round, letting her catch sight of his face and the first thing that came to mind was damn, he was a picture. Not a pretty picture basking within the elegant embrace of golden photo frames but one that would be embedded in ragged tapestries, forever remembered in the years to come. A war hero, a veteran, or something in between. Years of being trapped in the fighting arena had made her familiar with the appearance of other fighters; takes one to know one. And there was no mistaking who the man before her was.

He spoke in a voice that was oddly soothing to the girl, fitting of his stature. Perhaps it was that or the tranquil ambiance that prompted her to say more than she usually would. "I used to come here to train but not anymore." Luna trailed off, her sharp features easing into a pensive demeanor before she continued. "I came here today to think. These forests have a certain way with the mind. It's... peaceful. Not exactly something I was accustomed to for a long time. I suppose that's why I wandered deeper in than I usually would."

Closing the awkward distance between, she then stood a few feet apart for a more comfortable conversation. "There is no need to leave immediately if you'd rather stay. I simply have difficulties seeing in the night but as long as you're willing to guide me out then I'll be alright. I do apologize for the trouble though."

"Places of peace can be hard to find," he'd say, "places that the noise doesn't reach." He'd look at her a moment, "and did you find the moment of peace you sought?" She seemed like a calm girl, some had found him kind of intimidating.

"I've spent enough time here today," he'd say, "the temporary peace the woods offer is pleasant....but it is just that...temporary." He couldn't escape the strangeness of the island forever, so he'd motion for her follow.

"Tell me....what is your name?" he'd ask as they made their way through the forest. "You may call me Ryoshi," he'd introduce himself, moving through the woods.

His words rung true even though she found this island much more silent than the chaos of an arena, there was still noise nonetheless. The noise of bustling city life, students shuffling to classes, whirrs of machinery, and so on. The forests provided a tranquil silence save for the scurry of critters and the occasional cry of avians. A silence that Luna easily lost herself in. "I did." she began as she walked in tune with him. "This world is very different from mine, this forest included, but for some reason, the only place I feel closer to home apart from a duel would be in these woods."

A small spark of curiosity bloomed in her gut as he voiced his opinion. Just temporary huh, not exactly a common point of view though she couldn't find it within herself to disagree. As he asked her for her name, she internally chided herself for forgetting to say so before. Still, her facade remained neutral, her voice void of any flustered emotions.

"Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Luna, a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"You are from another world?" he'd ask, his calm voice giving off a ping of curiosity. "Another realm? Or another planet?" magic and such weren't new to him, but aliens were. "You duel often?" he'd ask, his eyebrow briefly shooting up.

He'd stop, allowing a deer to cross in front of them. "The quiet of the forest allows one to get closer to oneself, to who we were before," he'd say before continuing on, following the trail that had brought him there.

"Luna," he'd repeat the name, "like the moon?" He'd chuckle just a tiny bit. "Maned after the moon, but you cannot travel well without the sun,"now that seemed very ironic.

"I suppose you could say I am, though I'm not exactly sure where or how I came to be. Fighting was all I knew for a long time. Now I duel considerably less but some would still say it is a lot." The girl paused as she wordlessly trod on, sparing a moment to glance around at the splendorous scenery.

like the moon?

Now that was a new perspective. In truth, the girl had never really contemplated her name before, simply accepted it as truth. It was something she was given - an unquestionable fact. However, looking into it, there may have been an unknown rationale for her name. Luna hummed lightly as she pondered for a short while. "I suppose you're right. Perhaps it's because I glow? I never questioned the one who named me."

Shifting her gaze to Ryoshi, she then continued, her tone still kept impartial albeit friendlier than how she usually spoke. "What about yourself? You seem like one who has many stories to tell."

"You don't remember where you came from?" he'd ask. "Strange, I wonder what could have caused the memory loss," he'd glance at her curiously. "What is the first thing you remember?"

"Glow? Yes, that makes since, maybe they thought the light was similar to that of the moon." He'd stop at a crossroads, looking at them, determining the correct option and taking it. "Must be useful to glow at times."

"Stories?" he'd chuckle a tiny bit. "We all have stories, I suppose I'm no exception," there was the very light hint of sadness in his voice.

Luna did take a second to ponder, wondering if she was imposing too much on a stranger but she supposed it did little harm. "Where I came from and where I grew up were two different places. I know not of what happened in-between." The girl continued to stroll beside him, an odd comfort blooming in her chest as she spoke of old memories. "I knew I existed in light but the first thing I remember was fighting in an arena. Life was... different there. It was exciting in many ways but I guess when death lingered round the corner, anything would be considered exciting."

Must be useful to glow at times.

The girl hummed lightly, letting silence fall for a brief moment. "For most people I guess. I can't see past my arms in the dark. It's something I've only realized once I came to this island. Anyway, I apologize for the ramble. Would you like to share some of your stories?"

He'd listen as she spoke, never interrupting, letting her finish before speaking. "Spunds like you have a lot to figure out," he'd say, "I've never had amnesia, but having blanks on your memories sounds difficult."

Ryoshi would stop, allowing a deer to quickly cross the pass before continuing. "Stories?" he'd ask with a very small chuckle. "You assume I have any," he did of course, many stories indeed.

They'd near the end of the path. "I suppose I have some," he'd say with a sigh, "wouldn't know where to start though." Plus he wasn't really comfortable with telling a stranger so much about his life.
