Claudia Winchester was absolutely confident she wasn't going to be caught. Invisibility had its perks, one of them being that you could go almost anywhere you wanted to, even if you weren't allowed to, do whatever you want, and no one would be the wiser. One of those glorious, forbidden places?

The teacher's lounge.

Of course, she wasn't one of those students who might use their power to go around vandalizing things or looking for the answer sheets to their next test. She wasn't here to be a nuisance. Unless you count sneaking some of the food in the lounge for herself and leeching their WiFi to play games on her phone as being a nuisance.

Claudia tabbed out of one of those games, shut off her phone, and set it down. She was feeling hungry again, and those mouth-watering muffins someone brought in were just calling her name. She couldn't ignore them any longer. Ohh, and there was even a jar of blueberry cookies! No one would mind if she just took one of each, right? She approached the table, scooped up one of those delicious-looking muffins, and reached for the cookie jar. . .

Clement ducked, literally, into the teacher's lounge, humming quietly to himself as he did. His eyes, a blue glow in the sockets of the strange animal skull that made up his head, we're glued to the tablet on his hand. Reading some old book he had gotten in an email.

The soft clink of a jar lid being replaced caught his attention and he looked up. There was a girl, maybe eighteen, with her hand in the cookie jar. Both literally and metaphorically. She wasn't staff, that much he knew. So the next likely thing was that she was a student.

He spoke up, his voice resonating from somewhere inside his skull, his jaw not moving.
"Do you need any help young lady?"

Not accusatory or anything, he instead showed concern. Clement wasn't one to just immediately nassumemthe worst about a person, after all.

Claudia froze just as her fingers wrapped around one of the cookies. For many reasons. One, there was someone in here with her. Two, they were an adult. Three, OMG, that voice. She never really understood all those romance novels up until that moment. Okay, back on track--was there some other girl in here with her? Maybe it was just a teacher and a student walking in to chat about a class. . .In the teacher's lounge and not in an office.

Still confident in her invisibility (though that confidence was wavering already), she glanced around the room to see whoever the other visitors might be. If they were going to be talking long, she was going to be here long. Not moving a muscle.

There was no one except--her heart squeezed briefly with fright, and her face paled considerably. Despite all her time spent living on the island, she still got frightened every time she saw something that wasn't another living human being.

And it was looking right at her.

At this point, her confidence was pretty much gone, but Claudia stubbornly held on to the few remaining shreds. She stared at him, wide-eyed, silent, really, really hoping her invisibility was still working.

Clement waited a moment. The young woman was looking dead at him, clearly baffled that he was addressing her. A student, somewhere she wasn't supposed to be, baffled at the idea of being caught. There was a hint of something like fear in her eyes, but Clement was used to that.

He sighed, the jaw of his skull hanging open ever so slightly. Emoting his mild frustration. He spoke again, his voice more firm this time.
"I take it you aren't used to your invisibility not working?"

It was a guess, but an educated one. If she were baffled by him noticing her, she must have had some kind of ability that made her, well, hard to notice. Maybe it wasn't invisibility exactly, but it was certainly something.

"You are a student, yes? This room is off limits for students."
He was still in the doorway, so there wasn't much chance of her just slipping past him. But Clement wasn't going to stop her if she decided to run. Not that he was going to advertise that. He was memorizing her face regardless.

"We should talk, yes? Maybe start with what you're doing in the teacher's lounge, other than stealing cookies."

There went that confidence, right out the window. Maybe she should follow it. How did he know? Was he a mind-reader?! Oh no--did that mean he heard her thoughts about his swoon-worthy voice? Wait--crap! Blank mind, blank mind!

On the outside, Claudia probably looked like a mess. She'd pulled the cookie out, dropped it on her chosen muffin, and gripped the sides of her head with both hands in one swift movement. Then, she let go with one hand to feel her forehead (leaving behind cookie crumbs in her hair), pushing aside the dark bangs that had been partially covering her ever-paling skin. At this rate, she'd probably turn into a ghost.

Claudia Winchester attempted to find her voice. She really did. All that came out was a stuttering mess.

When she finally managed to say something that sounded vaguely like English, it was, "Y-you have good wifi...?"

Clement blinked slowly. Or he would have, if he had eyelids. Instead, the equivalent that Claudia got was the blue light behind his eye sockets gently dimming to nothing and then reiginiting like a trick candle.

His jaw fell open wide, in a ridiculous mock of a smile. His voice resonated again, but this time he was laughing. In reverse. Very much like the sound of a laugh being recorded and played backwards. !!ah ah aH

Clement's jaw snapped closed again after a few seconds of laughter and he spoke, a jovial lilt to his voice.
"Indeed, we do have very good wifi in here. I can't say I blame you for wanting to use it."

Clement himself utilized the teacher's lounge wifi from time to time when he was streaming a series he had latched onto or just wanted to listen to the podcast he followed.

"That said, you really shouldn't be in here without permission. But..."
Scratching his chin with a gloved hand, Clement almost seemed to be considering something.

"Why don't you have a seat? And pass some of those cookies. If they were made by who I think they are, they are divine. Literally."

Claudia Winchester was nothing short of absolutely confused. Why was he laughing? Why was his laugh in reverse (and why was it oddly endearing?)? Why was he not, like. . .giving her detention or bringing her to the principal for expulsion or something?

He. . .wanted cookies?

She managed to reduce the quaking of her legs to a slight tremble by reminding herself that he would most likely forget about her when she was gone, anyways. So. . .there was no trouble, right? Just a talk and then she was gone, and he'd have no recollection of her even being there except that he was fed some nice blueberry cookies.

Right? A pessimistic voice in the back of her head told her that if he could see straight through her invisibility, he'd probably remember her too. But she ignored that pessimistic voice like she learned to long ago. Whatever she said to this man creature thing, he wouldn't remember once she left the room, and that gifted her back just a bit of the confidence she'd lost before.

Claudia swallowed, reached back for two more cookies, and slowly (just to make sure her knees wouldn't jellify and collapse) moved over towards him with hand outstretched. If and when he took them, she would retrieve her own large muffin and singular blueberry cookie and take a seat, just like he told her to.

While she didn't fully trust herself not to stutter, she still forced herself to speak. "Um. . .Wh-who are you?"

Clement took the cookies and took a seat across from Claudia. He popped one into his mouth and chewed it up slowly. Blueberries were his fourth favorite fruit behind grapes, oranges, and cherries.

The girl still looked positively terrified of him, though Clement honestly wasn't surprised.
"Ah, just a moment. I do apologise for not doing this sooner."

In a moment his body shifted, shrinking down. His head changing shape in the strange, dim light that surrounded his form. When the light faded, a far more human Clement sat across from Claudia. He slipped a pair of glasses from his coat pocket and put them on.
"Is that better? A new trick I recently learned. I am still forgetful of it as of right now."

His voice had the same quality as before, but with a decidedly more Quebecoise timbre to it. He took a bite of the second cookie and smiled a bit.
"Clement Lamont. I am a teacher here at the academy. Enchanté."

"And you are? Other than a sneak and a cookie thief. I jest. I'm not as much of a hardass as some of my colleagues." Clement let out a soft chuckle at his own joke, though the laugh still came out backwards. He hated that he hadn't been able to get rid of that particular quirk, but he wasn't going to complain to a student.

Claudia Winchester was still just a little suspicious of the only witness to her crimes. Maybe he was just waiting to catch her off-guard. . .No, there was no way a person like that would become a teacher, right?

She watched carefully what she could see of his transformation, and perhaps she did feel a bit better, but only a bit. "Y-your other form was alright. . ." she murmured, taking a small bite of her cookie. "...You look nice." She could flirt with him all she wanted 'cause he wasn't going to remember a darn thing about her tomorrow. At least, that's what she thought. You go, Claudia.

Claudia perked up when she recognized the French, pleasantly surprised that he knew some. She was just about to answer his question before his statement of her factual crimes was voiced, bringing her to choke on a part of her cookie she was swallowing, followed by a small laugh of her own.

"I like your laugh, too. Um--I'm Claudia. Winchester. Claudia Winchester. Très heureux." Totally almost forgot her last name there. "I am also an invisible girl--w-well, not right now. I guess. Can...you actually see me? I think you're faking it. What color is my hair?" she said, reaching to twirl a lock around her forefinger with an expectant expression.

Clement visibly brightened when the girl slipped some French into her speech as well. He smiled and took another bite of his cookie. And she liked his laugh? Was she flirting with him? Did she think he was going to punish her and that if she acted a little flirty maybe he'd ease up on her?

And now she was questionig him. "Faking it? No no. You see I have long been paranoid about people tampering with my perception and my mind, so I have taken measures against such things. As for your hair, it is a delightful chocolate brown."

"You're not in trouble," he added, leaning forward against the table. "I am not going to write you up for being in the teacher's lounge. This time."
Clement had to stress that last bit. He hated being the bad guy, but he had to be a responsible authority figure on campus. He was an educator after all.
