"Okay, let's pause here for today."
Ava said after dodging a blow from Wynne and jumping backwards, making some distance. Ava was out of breath and there was a thin sheen of sweat on her face and bare shoulders. Which was no wonder, the two had been mock fighting for almost an hour now. Ava was all out of sarcastic quips and comebacks. Well, almost. She could never truly run out, after all.

Ava walked over to where she had put her water bottle and took a long drink, couching a bit when she drank too much too fast and the water got caught in her throat. Damned liquid, always plotting her demise...
"Like I thought, your guard might need a bit of work. I could still spot your usual tells and open spots."
Ava said after she had cleared her throat. She and Wynne had booked their club's gym for a late afternoon spar, Ava had wanted to go over some stuff with him that she had noticed during the last club meeting. Wynne was a good fighter and Ava had a feeling that if they fought for real she might even lose, maybe. Though she didn't want to admit it, of course.

After she was done drinking Ava basically fell down on one of the gym mats they had on the edge of the gym and groaned, laying on the mat like a starfish. She stared at the ceiling and did a quick body scan, checking for any bad injuries.
"I'm not gonna fucking move for at least 30 minutes, and you can't make me."
Ava declared, pointing at whatever direction she estimated Wynne was at. Her arm had just been broken last week, and if she came back home with more injuries close or as bad as that Titus might reconsider letting Ava do this sparring club thing. One point of it was that she wouldn't get hurt so much while training anymore.

"Sounds like... quitter talk, Ava."

Wynnestri panted, sweat pouring down his face. He had been doing physical training for a few years now but training with Ava was like training with a whole new kind of monster. No matter how hard he hit, she bounced back. No matter what he threw at her, she could prepare a counter. He had always thought he had stamina that no one could compete with, yet Ava pushed him to the brink every time. It was exhausting to spar with her.

But that made it all the more fun.

He fell to his knees, then flopped onto his side in exhaustion. He didn't even try to catch himself at this point. His arms felt like they were on fire but it was worth it. "...You're not hurting too bad, yeah? You'll be able to walk it off and get home okay?" Wynne called out, unsure of exactly where Ava was. He just wanted to close his eyes and nap at this point.

"Oh, go suck an egg, Wynne. You can barely stand."
Ava threw back tiredly at Wynne's quitter comment, and what do you know, Ava heard the guy fall down soon after she said it. Ava grinned to herself, but was also wondering if she had pushed Wynne a bit too hard. Ava did it to herself a lot but now that she was a club leader she should learn how to regulate and hold back. Sparring wasn't all-out fighting and Ava should get that into her head.

When she heard Wynne's question Ava let out a breathy laugh and lifted her head enough to look at him, though he couldn't see it.
"Thanks for the concern, but I'm peachy. The day you can fight me into a condition where I can't walk it off I'll give the leader's spot to you."
Ava said, though she knew that Wynne probably was already strong enough to do just that. Ava didn't think about the leader's spot in a particularly important light, in the club everyone was equal. Ava just gave the most advice and took care of all the practical stuff.
To prove her words to Wynne Ava stood up and walked over to him, ignoring the way her legs shook a bit. Ava stopped in front of Wynne and reached out a hand for him to take.
"Come on, pretty boy. If you're gonna pass out somewhere pass out on the mattress over there."
Ava said with a wide smile.

Wynne groaned as he turned over to take Ava's hand. Firmly clasping her wrist, he allowed himself to be pulled to his feet. "I refuse to pass out. Too stubborn to surrender." He gives a weak grin as he undoes his braid and shakes his hair out. Beads of sweat flick off as he moves and he slides the small band into his pocket. He ran his hands through his red locks a few times, trying to focus on that and not how much his body ached.

"Also, you go eat an egg. Get that extra nutrition so you can put up a challenge for a change." He cackled before coughing from his lack of breath. He placed his hands on his knees and took a few deep breaths to recover before standing up properly to look at Ava proper. "So... my tells are still obvious? I thought they were a bit tightened up... Also, I'm not pretty. I'm just average. And you could at least call me handsome instead or something." Wynne teased, taking another deep breath.

"If you actually surrendered I'd kick you out of the club."
Ava teased with a grin and gave Wynne's hand a squeeze before letting go. Ava mirrored Wynne's actions and pulled her own hair free, her wild curls falling around her sweaty shoulders and face. It was kind of funny, Wynne's hair was more or less straight and much longer than Ava's and here she was with a hair that looked like animals lived in it. Though Ava would be more than happy to house animals in her hair, she could have friends along anytime like that.

Ava snorted and cackled along with Wynne at his comeback, he clearly didn't know what suck an egg meant and Ava wasn't going to tell her. Maybe he'd start using the saying and that'd be so funny to watch.
"You're a pretty boy in your soul. I'm just calling you what you truly are."
Ava answered with a smirk and poked Wynne to the chest, chuckling.
"You still sometimes leave your sides open when you throw a kick, I think you're too focused on just wanting the kick to land. Your mind needs to be always one step ahead, so think past the kick. Calculate both possibilities, if it land or if it doesn't, and then plan optional attack patterns for both those scenarios. And. always. keep. your. guard."
Ava accentuated her last sentence by giving Wynne a chop to the forehead for each word as she said them.

"Am not! You just like to call me that because you know it's ridiculous and false."

Wynne rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest with a small pout. It didn't really bother him that much when she called him pretty. He honestly just felt weird accepting the compliment. He didn't really want the compliment, either. He liked being just Wynne. Regular, normal Wynne. A teenage boy who liked to fight. He also knew that she did it because, like he had said, it riled him up sometimes. But that's how Ava was and the godling could accept that.

"Am I? Shoot. I thought for sure I was compensating for the kick failure. Hrm. I'll have to check it again at some point. And I-" Whack. Whack. Whack! Each chop thumped his forehead and he couldn't help but let out a small moan of pain after the third one. He was so sore already and she just had to make it hurt that much more. He squatted low, holding his forehead and continuing to groan in pain. "Evil, you're evil. My poor head..." He whined, keeping low and not looking up. Maybe if he played this out just right, he could get a small sneak attack of his own in...

Wynne was so dramatic, it was fun teasing him. Both with his hair and with his nickname. Ava grinned down at his squatting form, and she squatted as well, on the same level as him now.
"That's what you get for not keeping your guard. You get chopped to the head."
Ava teased and snickered, leaning her chin to her hand.
"Besides, I didn't even hit that hard. Your poor head is fine."
Ava accentuated that with giving Wynne's hair a small, unusually gentle ruffle, which was pretty easy from this close proximity. Ava just had to reach out a bit. The ruffle should't make Wynne too annoyed now since his hair was already a mess, which was kind of a shame, but this time Ava meant the ruffle more as a simple show of her current emotions. Since Ava couldn't just say that she was proud of him or that she had had fun sparring, that was way too embarrassing.

Ava leaned back until she was sitting on the floor and leaned on her knees with her forearms.
"So, did I have any tells? Something I could've done better? This goes both ways, ya know."

Wynne let out a small growl of faux annoyance at having his hair ruffled. It was already a mess from the sparring the two had been doing, but it was still somewhat weird to him. Although he couldn't say he totally hated it, either. It was a reminder of home, of his mentors and instructors who treated him like family. Who reminded him to be humble but unafraid to show off when the situation called for it.

"For your tells, let me think..." He muttered from his still crouched position. He wasn't the strongest of liars so he had to keep his face somewhat hidden or Ava would recognize the ruse immediately. "Besides ruffling my poor hair, you have a tendency to block less than you could. There were times when I would push an attack and you would just push through it in order to put the pressure on me. It's a good tactic in theory but if it were an unknown enemy, you could suffer quite a bit more than you would assume. Plus, it could lead to an unexpected attack if you aren't careful."

Moving quickly, he shot his hand forward in an attempt to flick Ava in the forehead. It wasn't the same as a chop but a quick flick would be a good reminder for the dragon.

Ava tilted her head a bit as she listened to Wynne talk and explain about her mistakes. She narrowed her eyes a bit at how he seemed to keep his head low, as if he was purposefully doing it. It was so distracting that Ava almost missed what Wynne said.
"Hey! Pushing through is a great strategy. Remember the other da- "
And that was when Wynne launched his surprise attack, which for sure was a surprise but not fast enough for Ava to not be able to react.

Wynne got close enough to flick Ava's forehead, but as soon as he did Ava grabbed Wynne's arm. She spun them, so Wynne would end up on the floor on his back, and Ava basically sat on top of him, squeezing his arms against his sides and grinning down at him.
"Okay, you got a point, but I still think you get too focused on the next step, you should've thought how you would get out of flicking me on the forehead."
Ava snickered, and then returned the favour and flicked Wynne on the forehead.

Wynne frowned at the flick. Once again, he was bested. It was a little frustrating but it was a sign that he had more to learn in combat and tactics. "Maybe so, but as long as you learned something, I think our mission is complete for the day." He grinned back, but his eyes quickly narrowed. Being pinned down was uncomfortable and it was taking everything in his power to not try and kick her off with full force. It was almost claustrophobic, in a way.

"Now, do me a favor? Please get off me. It's rather uncomfortable having you pinning me down." He gave her an expectant look, brow beginning to furrow. He could feel his ponytail also awkwardly pinned under the back of his head, creating an uncomfortable pillow that was beginning to give him a headache.
