Ater hung his head and dropped his shoulders cartoonishly. "It's because my hair's red and black, isn't it? I swear I didn't pick this edgy combination!" He'd sigh, straightening himself back up. "Anyway, I see myself more of an anti-hero, so I guess that's fair."

He raised a brow at Marcus' question. "Well, doesn't everybody? I suppose? But if you're thinking debts as the Fae see it, then... no, we're not that zealous of debts. Or at least my clan doesn't normally." Now that he thought about it, did other kitsune do a lot with debts like the Fae do? Well, he does sometimes expect things in return, and so did most of their clan, but that was more like one good deed for another... Great, now he'd need to question his own customs.

"She's just weird. Maybe looking to hook up with someone."

"Just the way you act in general," If he was going by hair colour alone, then Marcus himself could be the over-serious ally. Blue was a weird colour for him. "I suppose, though, you could also be the fiery friend that gets hyped up about everything." It did suit his powerset too.

Everybody keeps debts? considering that fact, he noticed that it was normal to believe that helping someone gives a reason for them to help you back. "Oh, okay." It was strange to think about what you believed was normal from another perspective.

At this he just shrugged, Someone actually monitoring the high school admittance seemed weird.

Ater rubbed the nape of his neck. "Well I guess that's a good description? I don't know, I've been told I get too eager about some things sometimes." He shrugged. Maybe that was a good way of interpreting it. He wouldn't mind if that was how people saw him. Would make things easier.

"So, mathematics, huh? Are you planning to become a teacher, or go higher and work with NASA or something?"

"Well, if anything, it was my parents." Marcus exhaled loudly. "Basically, they had a high expectation for me, My Father was an engineer and my mother was a College professor. and even now, more than several thousand miles away, I'm still following it."

Maybe a bit dramatic, but it was true. They were quite controlling, and he had very little freedom back in England. That was why he turned to reading, it was the only escape he could actually get.

"Ahh, those kinds of parents, huh?" Yeah, that was rough. While Ater never knew anyone personally with that predicament, he knew enough that that situation really blows for the kid going to school.

"But are you liking it? I mean, if not, you're not going to have a lot of drive to continue on. It's kind of like shrine tending I suppose. If you're not interested in it, you're not going to do a very good job at it. But if that's something you enjoy doing, then you'd be all too happy to add a little something extra to it too."

"It's not that I don't enjoy it. It's actually quite interesting. I just automatically work for a high achievement. I'll probably become a teacher, or maybe a writer." The thought was weird, what would he be doing after he graduated. It felt like an eternity until that eventuality. He leaned back and stretched his arms over his head "Maybe it might not be the best for me, but even so, I'd still continue it."

"Going for overachiever?" he asked with a chuckle. He wouldn't judge what people were after. There really wasn't much being an overachiever can do though. Sure it looks pretty on the resume, but the stress of having that expectation weighing down on you just sucks. Ater preferred easy living.

"That's fine, so long as that's your choice and all. Nothing's worse than be shackled up with something you don't like."

"So what about you?" Marcus tried to take the spotlight off himself. "You're a high school student, but what about after you graduate?" He was uncomfortable with criticism about himself, even if it was unintentional.

"So, other than being a clan of Temple-cleaning Foxes, what are is your family like?" He was actually curious.

Ater shrugged. "Who knows. Might depend on who ends up being my girl, you know? I think I'll just be tending to temples, maybe be a candy maker. I haven't made my mind up yet, and I don't think I like anything enough to be doing it for my entire life." He shrugged again then chuckled when he thought of something. "I could be a Hawaiian fire dancer too. How hard could it be?"

"My family? They're pretty average. Have a lot of old traditions we hold on to. Kind of believe that our bloodline is cursed or something, but that's just legend."

Imagining Ater juggling flaming sticks, he laughed. "I don't know, I hear it takes a lot of practice to learn how to hold the baton properly" It made sense, but Marcus was surprised at his response. The person he ends up marrying could influence his entire career?

Cursed? what lead them to think that? "Well, do you think they're cursed?"
