Aria laughed at the results of the prank and even though she felt slightly guilty it was ok. It wasn't like anything seriously bad had resulted after all.

The question though seemed like it might be bigger than it's casual nature implied. Aria gazed over at Jasmine thoughtfully for a few moments, and then stopped before she could gaze too long and make things weird.

"Real talk, 100% honesty? Because I think you deserve that for sure. I'll admit I really really loved your longer hair. It was really cute on you. But. Ah, you're cute in a different way now too. Besides, it's not like your hair is the only attractive... actually let's leave it there. Sorry."

Jasmine's cheeks went warm at the compliments, and she ran her hand through her hair again as she considered Aria's perspective. "Well, I can try growing it back out again. I just know that it'll take a while... it took me forever to get it as long as it was before. And that was before I had this weird hang up about it."

It took her a few seconds to meet Aria's eyes, nervous as she was. But she smiled nonetheless and exhaled slowly. "But... thanks. I really do appreciate the honesty. And I- ah, I'm glad you don't hate it, at least."

"You wanna roast marshmallows or something while we finish drying off?" She wanted to distract herself from the growing thoughts of wanting to cuddle with Aria, to hug her. Or be hugged by her. Jasmine had a brief moment of tangential thought, which she shook away and returned to her casual smiling self.

Aria squashed the urge to offer Jasmine a hug to let her know she definitely didn't hate the way she looked but she figured that would be a mistake on her part. Self control and all that jazz. Friendship and comfort first, flirting on the backburner for now.

So instead she leapt, metaphorically speaking at least, at the diversion offered up by Jasmine. "Sure. Might as well take advantage of hugging the fire to dry off," she cleared her throat and clambered to her feet to retrieve a bag of the sugary treats and deftly sliced it open with a tiny portal.

"You'll have to show me how it's done properly of course. I'm not the expert here," she grinned at Jasmine as she slipped one of the marshmallows out of the bag to toss at her.

Jasmine caught the marshmallow in both hands, quickly setting it on the leg of her jeans so that it wouldn't melt and stick to her skin. "That was really clever by the way. The portal thing. I assume that goes to a recycling bin or something? I never would have even thought to use them like that." She was genuinely impressed by what was arguably a small feat, and it showed on her face.

Jasmine grabbed a pair of sticks that she'd kept to the side of the fire, taking her knife back out and shaving off the bark and also whittling a point onto each one. "I dunno about expert: roasting marshmallows isn't really an art form." She paused, laughing a little bit as she realized something. "You might not want to follow my example anyway. I like to let mine char a little bit."

Once the sticks were done, their shavings cast into the fire to burn up, she handed one of the sticks over to Aria. Skewering her own marshmallow on her stick, Jasmine held it just above the fire so that it didn't immediately catch flame. "Dad and I used to use the stovetop to do this when it was too cold or too rainy to go outside. We'd get forks instead of sticks and huddle around the burner."

Aria, truth be told, barely considered what she'd done to be worthy of commenting on. It was pretty much automatic for her, so for Jasmine to take the moment to marvel at it even briefly made her smile. "Ah, well honestly the way I make portals feels kind of like cutting with a knife so I guess it comes naturally for me. Sorry if that makes it sound weird though. They're plenty safe as long as i'm the one making them."

She did have to wrinkle her nose up a bit at the thought of charred marshmallows. Aria could almost taste the burnt flavor and Jasmine was right- it wasn't her style really. "See, you already know that I wouldn't like it that way so i'm gonna double down and keep calling you the expert," she laughed too as she took hold of her roasting stick and speared her own marshmallow on it. Preferring to let her marshmallow only flirt with the heat of the flames rather than ignite into a hot mess.

"You know that sounds awfully cute. All warm and cozy, hiding from the rain and cold and just enjoying the moment. I like those sneaky times that are just nice. No problems to solve or worries to... worry about."

Jasmine took her marshmallow out of the fire the second it caught fire itself, quickly blowing it out so that the char was just starting to form across part of the surface. She let it cool a few moments longer, drooping off of the end of the stick until she could safely pluck it off and take a bite.

"Yeah, they are nice. It's nice to slow down every once in a while. Not worry so much about the future or whatever nonsense tomorrow will bring." She paused, looking over at Aria and choosing to slide a little bit closer to her so that their knees touched. "Like now. Just you and me out here, no worries, no job or classes. It's nicer than I could have asked for."

Aria pulled her own marshmallow out to give it an experimental poke. The edges were just faintly browned and it seemed soft enough beneath that to eat. Taking her cue from Jasmine she also waited a moment or two for cooling before eating hers right off the stick.

Which left her unable to immediately respond to Jasmine drawing even closer. But once the mallow was gone she smiled at her and reached forward to rest her hand on Jasmine's knee softly. "Good thing you didn't need to ask then. Not everyone gets an invite to this most luxurious of hotels, you know. Good thing I put my reservation in for that blanket spot way early," she laughed and tucked some of her deep red hair behind her ear so she could see Jasmine better.

"Assuming you're still interested in laying back and watching the stars with me? No judgment if you really want more marshmallows first."

Jasmine laughed a bit at the joke, nudging Aria gently with her shoulder. "I'd take the woods over a fancy hotel any day. You'd have to show me what to do in that environment, probably."

Jasmine watched, as she had been doing all afternoon really, as Aria pushed her hair back behind her ear and felt that fluttering in her stomach again. God, she was so pathetic and weird. No. No, she reminded herself. That was just her brain being a jerk. But knowing that only partially dispelled the negativity, doing nothing for the anxiety of being so close and alone.

"No, no. I definitely want to watch the stars with you. The marshmallows will be here in the morning, the stars won't." And that sounded really corny, Jasmine realized as her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

She honestly wouldn't mind indulging a little with some fancier things once in a while. But... that was most definitely besides the point of the joke. So many things she was avoiding saying- it made her feel a little guilty, as if she were lying to herself and Jasmine.

Fortunately a good laugh at a bad joke was just the thing to distract her. Ok, maybe it was more of a short exhalation of air from her nose rather than a true laugh but beggars can't be choosers. "Well I can't argue with that logic. But might as well bring a couple to munch on anyways of you'd like. Don't worry about me," she replied with a friendly smirk as she slowly rose to her feet.

"I guess we should let the fire die down low or something while we're gone? I'll need a couple minutes to grab a few blankets anyway."

And she stepped away for a moment through one of her portals to her pocket dimension. Leaving it open so she could still hear if Jasmjne needed her. Also giving her a sneak peek inside the somewhat dim dimensional bubble with all kinds of things stashed inside. Not everything was readily visible of course but there was clearly some furniture and most of Aria's wardrobe arrayed within reasonable view of the opening.

Jasmine couldn't help but take a peek when Aria opened up her portal and stepped inside. She didn't follow, not even to peek her head in - portals were still a bit of a sore spot for her. And there was that nagging fear that she'd try and walk through it by herself and get sent somewhere totally unintended. Like last time.

"That's usually my line," she said almost absentmindedly to the 'don't worry about me' comment, idly kicking a little dirt closer to the fire to help it choke itself out a bit faster. That had never really been true though, she realized as the words came out. There had been plenty of reason to worry about her in the past, and probably in the present too. The fact that Aria did worry about her was... comforting.

"You keep prepared with that portal though, huh? You're basically a boy scout yourself - the motto is 'Be Prepared' and you look pretty prepared for just about anything."
