First things first: This is completely optional.
If you don't want to convert your characters, you don't have to. You're free to stay with the old system (powers / species abilities). However, if you do that your app doesn't get any of the benefits of swapping, and you're effectively locked out of future AIM contests until the conversion is done.
Second thing: All characters are being grandfathered in.
If your character is too strong, and doesn't fit under the limits of the new system? Doesn't matter. As long as you don't improve their abilities (removing weakness, increasing individual powers, adding new ones), you don't have to edit it to make it fit. So if you have four active powers? That's okay!
However, if your character is really strong, or does have too many powers, we do encourage you to edit them to match up with the new system.. Feel free to wiggle things around.
Third thing: Rewards. If you stay the same or downgrade, you get vouchers.
If you convert everything over, and in the end your character is either the same or weaker than they were, you get two vouchers. If you upgrade them to meet the new limits, you don't get vouchers - but you also don't have to pay for the power upgrade to do that upgrading. If you upgrade, it's also important to note that you might be pended for clarifications (such as previously missing ranges). Also important to note is that this is not all or nothing. If you have ten characters and you convert five, then those five count.
Fourth thing: Time. You have all month to do these updates.
With that all in mind, here's a step by step guide for how to convert things over.
- Powers. Powers are the easiest part to convert. The majority of powers are going to be sorted into active abilities, while species abilities tend to be more passive abilities. Rewriting in this case shouldn't be particularly necessary. To do this conversion, remove the powers and species abilities field from your app. Then, put the following code into your app in their place:

[b]Weaknesses:[/b] Weaknesses go here- Moving Your Powers Over is as easy as copying and pasting. If you want things to be a bit more clear, consider giving individual abilities names to help divide them. Feel free to put passive abilities ahead of active abilities on the app if it makes more sense for your character. There's no need to rewrite things otherwise.
- Moving your Species Abilities Over is a bit more complex, depending on the nature of your abilities. If an ability could class under both active and passive, and you can't split it up, put it in active. If an ability isn't a strength or a weakness, but just is (like your character having stubby horns that wouldn't ever be useful in combat), they still go in passive abilities. If you have a weakness that was previously under species abilities, make sure it goes under weaknesses.
- Double check your weaknesses! Previously we've seen a lot of limits being marked as weaknesses. If a weakness is something that a human would already suffer from (not coming back from the dead when killed by silver), it's not a weakness--it'd be a limitation on your characters ability to respawn. Limits should be under the relevant power they apply to, not in the weaknesses section.
- Add common magical items! You can find a list here. Only items on this list should be included in this section - any other magical items should be added in the abilities fields. You're free to add these items as you see fit during this conversion process. To add them, you simply copy paste the whole entry over, no changes needed.

[b]Common Magical Items:[/b] Make sure they're copied over from the common magical item thread.- Adding the resource field is the only part where you'll likely have to write something new. This is intended to be kept pretty short (15-75 words). Things to cover include: Where do they live? What kind of spending money do they have? Where's this coming from? Noting that your character lives in an apartment and has a normal full time job is enough.

Post once in this thread for each character who you update. Don't go back and edit your old post to add new characters as you finish them. Once a staff member has checked your application, they'll like your contest post. If you need to change something again later, send a PM to the mod who checked your contest post.
