DMITRI
Twenty-Two - October 26th - Male - Demon - Citizen - Unemployed
APPEARANCE

Dmitri Image Reference, art by ClaraFang

Dmitri is obviously not human from the get go, even if he looks mostly human. He stands at 5'9", with tanned skin and an athletic but wiry build. His hair is short and white, with a windswept look and natural streaks of red. His right eye is a clearly unnatural red, almost glowing. His left eye is badly stitched shut and scarred over.

Unless he makes an effort to hide them, Dmitri has eight long, reddish-black spider's legs protruding from his back on either side of his spine. The center four are around four and a half feet long, while the top and bottom pair are slightly shorter. He has three sets of external rigid ribs that are similar to his legs in coloration which wrap around his sides.

Dmitri's frequently found without a shirt, and his clothes tend to be cheap but trendy. Dmitri smokes often, and generally smells of cigarette smoke.
PERSONALITY
As a pride demon, there's little doubt that Dmitri is an intensely proud person. He's proud, not of his upbringing, but what he managed to make of himself despite it, and he's fairly confident that most people wouldn't have done so well faced with what he did. He's also fairly vain, proud of his looks despite (or perhaps because of) his injuries, and reacts poorly when insulted.

While he generally acts fairly casual and laid back, he's quick to jump to blows when insults start being thrown, and takes things like honor very seriously. That's not to say he's going to get into brawls every day. Because of his upbringing, Dmitri has an intense dislike of authority, and an equally intense desire to stay out of the Manta Carlos prison system, no matter how plush it may be. He values his freedom, and he's all too eager to meet others of 'his kind' on the island, something that would be awfully difficult to do in lockdown.

However, that willingness to avoid prison doesn't go quiet far enough. Dmitri won't cooperate with police. He's absolutely useless as a witness, and has no intention of speaking to any cops, even if they're off duty. Similarly, he has a strong like for other criminals, even if they are supposedly 'reformed'. On the island, he takes that with a wink and a nudge, assuming that none of them are actually reformed.

Dmitri is also quite flirty, even if he does have fairly high standards.
PASSIVE ABILITIES
Dmitri is a pride demon, an unknown son of Lucifer and a spider demoness. He is largely inexperienced with his abilities, and unfamiliar with their limitations.

Unnatural Body: Dmitri's body is far from human, with eight spider legs that protrude from his back. Each ends in a sharp point, and is quite durable, comparable to a metal baseball bat. Similarly, the six smaller legs that wrap to the front side of his torso are extra durable, protecting his much less durable human ribs and serving as a first line of defense. Dmitri is also capable of making his hands into massive claws, where everything from the wrist-onward expands to almost double the usual size and becomes covered with a hard chitin comparable to the legs on his back. This shift is effortless, and quite dangerous as well.

Unnatural Agility: Dmitri is fast. He isn't a runner, about to set a land speed record, but instead his reaction times and agility are far beyond what a human is capable of. He's the sort of person who could backflip over a bullet being shot at him, and look graceful as a spider while doing so.

Immortality: Dmitri no longer ages, and will not die of old age. While he has no regeneration, if killed he would respawn in the pride domain of hell within the next few days. He'd then have to get back on his own.

Hellion Detection: As a Hellion, Dmitri can detect other Hellions/Sin demons and what sin, or sins, they represent.

Pride Draw: Dmitri is naturally drawn to proud people. He can resist this freely if needed, and to Dmitri it's unclear if this is actually a part of his abilities, or if that's simply how he is.
ACTIVE ABILITIES
Natural Body: Dmitri's usual look is so clearly non-human that he'd have struggled to survive if he wasn't capable of making himself fit in. While it took him quite a while to figure out just how, he eventually did manage to learn to hide his demonic traits. His spider legs wrap around him, sinking into his skin and appearing as dark tattoos reflecting their shape. His red eye becomes a reddish brown. His hair remains the same, unfortunately, but it's easy enough to explain as being dyed.
COMMON MAGICAL ITEMS
Simple Language Charm (Russian): This is the standard language charm provided to most characters. It translates a characters mother tongue into English, and allows them to hear English as their mother tongue.
BIOGRAPHY
Content Warnings for Child Abuse
  • Dmitri was born a prince, the child of Lucifer and a spider demoness who fled to earth to make her own way.
  • His mother was killed when he was a child, and Dmitri was taken in by the Russian Mafia.
  • Treated as a sideshow, Dmitri was mistreated and essentially feral for most of his early years, kept in a small cage.
  • At one point he bit one of his owners, and his eye was taken and sewn shut to punish him.
  • When he was ten, he was rescued by the leader of another group within the Russian Mafia, and his fortune changed for the better.
  • The older man believed that Dmitri was Anansi himself, or perhaps a child of the god. He taught Dmitri will, and raised him like a son, albeit with a great deal of religious pressure.
  • When he was seventeen, Dmitri's new father was killed in a shootout. The new leader of the group, Victor, was more interested in what Dmitri could do for the group than any possible religious connotations he might have.
  • Victor gave him his name, helped him learn to hide his limbs and pass as human, and eventually Dmitri became his lover.
  • Dmitri's status was an open secret among the group, known but not spoken of. His bisexuality was no more horrible than the fact that he was some kind of monster, and so went by without issue.
  • Dmitri was 'rescued' by Manta Carlos scouts at the age of twenty-two, a messy situation that very nearly ended up with most of the scouts dead. A compromise was reached, and Dmitri was allowed to travel to the island, keeping in contact with Victor as he aimed to discover just what, exactly, he was.
The old man was like a father to him, and probably the closest thing Anansi had ever had to a family. Losing him at the age of seventeen was a blow, but Anansi was far more prepared for the transition when it came. The old man was shot in a dispute, and another group rolled in to take over what was his, taking his place in Anansi's life.

The new man--Victor--was less foolish than Anansi's previous keeper. He knew that Anansi was something supernatural, but he sincerely doubted that he was a god in human form. He focused far more on the practicalities of things, like what Anansi could do for the Bratva. He was impressed by his agility, and promised to him that if he could hide his spiderlike features, he could have his freedom--and a real name. A name of his own.

Within a year Anansi had learned what he had failed to in seven, finally managing to hide his limbs and pass as human. Victor called him Dmitri, named for the patron saint of his home, and gave him a birthday: his saint's feastday.

While Victor had plans for Dmitri to be a proper part of the Bratva and put his supernatural gifts to use, a much different fate awaited him--that of Victor's lover. The majority of Victor's group had deviated from the true vor lifestyle in one way or another, with several of them being closeted homosexuals. Only a few months after Victor gave him a name, the two were nearly inseparable, with Dmitri remaining largely at his side and offering counsel and advice. He lived a life of relative comfort, content with his position, and was generally well liked among the Bratva in part due to his dedication to the life itself. It was an open secret among the group that Dmitri was something inhuman, but his lack of reaction to holy items convinced the few religious men among the group that whatever he was, he wasn't a demon.

Dmitri was 'rescued' by the Manta Carlos scouts at the age of twenty-two, an embarrassing situation for everyone involved. The scouts, learning of a non-human living with the Bratva had assumed the worst, going in with the intent of rescuing a mistreated nonhuman. Instead they'd found him perfectly happy and content with his position, surrounded by a lot of very angry men. It was only with a lot of quick thinking that the situation was kept from becoming an absolute slaughter, with the offending scouts being invited to parley with the boss, Dmitri at his side.

The scouts were obviously unwilling to let a non-human remain in such a vulnerable position, which could so easily lead to breaking the veil. Dmitri, on the other hand, had no intention of leaving Victor behind, abandoning his way of life for some far off-island. It was Victor who pointed out the obvious--that going to the island might help him figure out just what he was--and finally managed to convince him to give it a try. He promised he'd come visit, and also that Dmitri could always come visit him, a circumstance that obviously made the scouts involved very uncomfortable.

Even so, they'd achieved their objective, and less than a week later Dmitri left with them to live on Manta Carlos.
RESOURCES
Dmitri is in an awkward position. He's new to the island, doesn't have a job, but he's provided with funds by his patron back in Russia. The island clearly dislikes the transactions (the money is definitely dirty), but looks the other way to avoid having to deal with him. He has temporary lodgings in the form of a hotel, but doesn't have an actual place to live yet. His funds tend to vary depending on how well the Bratva are doing at any given time.
EXTRA INFO
His diminutive is 'Dima'.

Dmitri has the skills of a trained thief, but is also fairly computer savvy. It allowed him to work from home, and he's a competent (but not genius) hacker.

Dmitri's language charm can't handle Fenya, and often breaks down when he gets angry.
