Broen backed off and furrowed his brow, less angry now and more just intensely paying attention. But he snorted and kind of lost his composure at the last part.

"I was a trust fund kid, Zora. Until I got disowned. I know my way around that stuff decently well."

But he relaxed a bit more, "Sorry for jumping you. I may be super casual and a gigantic asshole, but I don't half-ass my work. I put in one hundred percent, and I don't like feeling like I'm being kept from doing my job to the best of my ability."

"But go on."

Zora cocked an eye at the trust fund comment. It was surprising to hear, she'd have, perhaps, asked more, but now wasn't the right time - or place.

Shaking her head when Broen apologized, Zora bit her bottom lip, "I should have been more truthful with you, it's not your fault for being angry. I know you need to know these things..." she confessed with a sigh.

When he told her to go on, Zora nodded once, unsure where to start. "DB Holdings is the parent company of Woodland, held in trust for me and my brother til we are both 36," she explained, looking at Broen to see if he was following, "And as you know, anything purchased through DB Holdings is technically mine and my brother's..."

"The night after the attack, I found out that some of the warehouses that the Black Wings are using were purchased through DB Holdings, by my brother, and without my knowledge..." she said as she gazed at Broen wondering if he knew what she was getting at.

"Do you see where this is all leading now, and why I didn't really want to say anything to the police?" she asked slowly.

"Anything he does using your company could put you in a bad spot as well." Obviously. There were easy solutions to that: a bullet through her brother's head was the most obvious one. But Broen had a distinct feeling Zoraida wouldn't go for that. He looked at the burner phone again, thinking before pocketing it.

"I'll take care of the detective. Get him off your case. You just worry about keeping your business running. And keep me informed if anything else happens with the Black Wings."

"Yes, it could put me in a bad spot, or affect my family, those I care about... plus, you need to know this, as it affects you somewhat," she said wanly, almost embarrassed to admit this to anyone. It was sick, and she knew it, had tried desperately to not acknowledge it - because saying it made it all too real. But she had promised Broen honesty and that much he deserved if he was going to protect her.

"What the detective said is true, my brother is after me, has been for years... But not in the way, you might think. His motives are not only greed," here she could not look at Broen as she attempted to phrase it in a way that didn't sound exaggerated or as sick as it was, "Tomas has always coveted something I'm not willing to ever give him..." she said cryptically, sickened by the mere thought, remembering a moment whispered long ago that had terrified her and still caused her nightmares and prompted her to do something she'd later regret and still regretted.

"I will, most definitely..." at his words, "But you also need to be careful, I know you think you are this super badass guy," here she smiled at him, "but your overconfidence and ego might be what he's relying on," she said as a warning.

Broen couldn't really empathize with Zora in this moment of embarrassment and fear and disgust. But he could certainly fake it well enough. His shoulders slumped and his eyes softened just a bit. "You don't have to tell me everything, Zora. Just what I need to do my job."

He stepped closer, smirking. It was always so funny to him how people thought he must underestimate people so much. But if he was stealing powers from people, he was very, very aware of what they could do. "Don't worry about me. I don't go in half-cocked. If I ever have to deal with your brother, he'll never see me coming."

"I know, I don't have to... " Zora said at Broen's words, "I just think that if you understand what your rival, enemy's motivations are and what makes them tick, you can at least anticipate some things - or at least, in business, you can," she admitted, not so sure she could use that logic anymore.

Zora actually smiled here at his self-assuredness, "Okay, Broen... I won't worry about you then." she said with a nod, "And just so you know, you have my full trust going forward from this moment, and I will respect your decisions on how to handle my brother, and my security..." she said, knowing full well, that she had been rather lax in that area and sneaking off without him at times, thinking she "could handle things".

"Basically, I am, for the most part, in your hands now, no more lies, half-truths or games on my part," Zora promised, it was hard giving up some control in her life, but she knew if she did not listen to those that knew better than her she'd probably end up dead, or worse.

"I won't let you down, boss." There was a definite sarcasm in Broen's voice, but he had every intention of doing the job he was paid for to the best of his ability. But first he had to take care of some things.

"So, next question. I've celarly heard rumors about what happened with you and the Black Wings. But you told the police that you weren't there. Clearly if you went back and told the truth, you'd get in some trouble."

He tapped his chin and considered how he wanted to ask this question.

"You don't want the police involved directly... hm. Okay nevermind. I know what I'm going to do on that front. But I am going to talk to someone cop."

Zora just rolled her eyes when he called her "boss" in that slightly ironic way that he did.

"Yes, I was there that day, and the rumours are partly true, I'm afraid," Zora confirmed with a slow nod, no more lying about that to Broen, "I can go into details or specifics if you want or need them?" she offered freely.

Hearing his idea, Zorada looked at Broen with concern and had to stop herself from saying anything when he said he suddenly wanted to talk to a cop. She felt like telling him "no, absolutely, not..." but she knew, she had to trust him and just nodded against her better judgement while trying not to panic.

"Can I ask why you want to do that? Talk to a cop?" she enquired evenly, accepting his decision, but needing an explanation as to why.

Broen nodded and pulled the phone that Nick had left out of his pocket. He waved it a bit, looking dourly at Zora. "Simple. Cops don't give you burner phones. Guys like me do. So either he's dirty, or he came in here impersonating an officer."

"Ooh!..." Zora said as realization set in. She then glanced at the phone in Broen's hand, having almost forgot about that. It was the one the detective had left, and the one she had a bad feeling about.

"I think he's a real cop..." Zora said grimly, pretty good at reading people. "Just corrupt, and probably working with the Black Wings from inside..." she surmised. "He told me way too much to be only a cop, he seemed almost too "chatty"..." she stated thoughtfully.

"This is only a hunch on my part, and maybe you can let your cop friend know somehow... " she told Broen, remembering something important as she jumped off the desk and moved around to her desk and unlocked the drawer.

"But I have a feeling that the Black Wings are either paying off people or recruiting them to infiltrate the police, my company... those around us basically..." she said as she handed Broen a copy of a bank receipt that she had "acquired" through certain means, of her brother's private financials and circled were payments on a regular basis to her PA, Marie Rankin.
