Laetus plopped down right next to her, sitting cross legged and facing her. He brushed his hair back and smiled at her.
Laetus then leaned back, his hands in the mud to keep himself from laying back all the way. He joined her in watching the skies. "The rain feels nice too." He said, his eyes closing for a few moments.

Maddie seized the moment of him closing his eyes to sit up and throw herself on him in a kind of half hug/fall.

By the end of this, they would both bee filthy from the mud. Oh rain, why must you betray those who love you?

Laetus was caught off guard, and looked at her surprised and confused before laughing at the whole thing. He would wrap his arms around her and roll them both through the mud as he laughed.

"You're getting your jacket muddy!"

Maddie laughed as her hair, skin, and his coat were matted with dirt and water.

She reached to grab a handful of mud and push it in his face.

"This means war."

Laetus laughed. "You were already doing tha-—" He was cut off with a mouth full of dirt. He sat up and spit it out to the side, shaking his head about as he did so. He then stared at her for a moment in silence before shouting "REVENGE!!!" And splashing her with muddy water from a nearby puddle.

Maddie screamed, scampering away from him as he splashed water on her.

"H-Hey! You don't know what I was planning before. Maybe I just wanted a hug?"

She dodged behind a tree, hiding herself from view.

"Does mud to the mouth mean hug time for humans?" He asked jokingly, scooping up a mud ball as he pursued her. When he came around the tree, he held his arms open for a hug, the mud ball slowly dropping off his hand.

Maddie jumped to the opposite side of the tree as he came around after her. She peeked around and, upon realizing he had opened his arms for a hug, she ran into his arms.

She was shivering from the cold by this point and it didn't seem like the rain was letting up anytime soon. It was not the picnic Maddie had imagined it would be, but things rarely were what she imagined they'd be like with Laetus.

He smiled warmly and embraced her. So that WAS what mud tot he face meant? Humans are weird. Her shivering seemed worse by this point, and his concern returned. He looked down at her and rubbed his nose against hers. "Ready to go inside, Cherry-chan? We don't want you catching a cold, now do we?"
