Laetus brought his head above her shoulder, rubbing his cheek gently against hers. When he spoke, his voice was much softer than usual. "... But personally, when we're together, I try to focus on the now."

Maddie closed her eyes, focusing on the feeling of how near he was. She was having trouble completely relaxing when his body was so close to hers.

"I always think about kissing you again," she said without thinking. Then she stiffened further. "Which is...— I shouldn't have said that. Hey, look, I think the rice is done."

Laetus smirked and reached one hand up to turn the burner off. No escape excuse now.
"So..." He gently nudged her to turn around. Hopefully she complied. He smiled at her, his arms still wrapped around her.
"Why hesitate?" He asked, coming so close to her their noses almost touched.
This all seemed... different. Perhaps, despite the confusion he gave the question, confirming their dating status gave him more confidence? Or maybe it's just Laetus being...
inconsistent? Confusing? Generally unpredictable?

Maddie hadn't expected him not to be distracted. Laetus got distracted by everything since she had known him.

Maddie was caught between meeting his eyes and focusing on how close his face was to hers when he had turned her around.

"Um," was all she could manage at first. Again, he was so close! If he had wanted her to answer this question with a clear head, he wouldn't have been right up in her face.

"I've only ever kissed someone once," she said uncertainly. Kind of a copout answer. "And I'm shy."

Laetus pressed his forehead gently against hers, looking into her eyes. He was silent for a bit, enjoying the moment, perhaps enjoying how nervous she was a bit. Eventually, he moved his head back. He smirked and kissed her forehead. "No need to be nervous with me, Cherry-chan." He told her, though it sounded a bit like he was teasing. He then went to finish off the rice, mixing the egg in and putting it into a bento box... Where did he get that from? He then started packing things into a picnic basket.... Was he... Did he get things while she was distracted? Were those there before he put his arms around her?

Maddie swore he had been about to kiss her; now she was wondering if he had just been distracting her to keep her from...

"Laetus," Maddie said, nose wiggling in frustration. It was more cute than intimidating. Like a bunny. "Did you distract me so I wouldn't hurt myself cooking anymore?"

She'd have been hesitant to throw that accusation at anyone else, but with Laetus, it was in the realm of possibility.

Laetus looked over his shoulder at her, a guilty smile on his face.
"Ofcorse not." He told her unconvincingly. He was putting a couple different jellies into the box. Those were DEFINITELY not here before. Not in that empty fridge. "But look, everything is done. We can head back again if you're ready."

"Oh my gosh! You totally did, didn't you? Low blow," Maddie grumbled, before saying something unsavory under her breath. Something about kissing.

She crossed her arms over her chest and took to pouting. She wasn't that much of a klutz!

"Aww, Cherry-chan..." He picked up the basket and walked back over to her.
"Don't be mad, Cherry-chan." He pleaded. "We can go back to the forest now. I can even play you more songs if you'd like..."

She sniffed. "I could have finished cooking without hurting myself..."

She wanted him to say it and to say it with feeling.
