Cassiel rolled her eyes. Back to hiding in the pillows, was he? If he hadn't wanted to go through the pain of a hangover, then he shouldn't have gone out drinking. Perhaps it was a horrible thing to think, but every time he did something stupid like that it only made her think that Dom's hold on him was as strong as it had ever been. He couldn't erase that period of his life - no one in his family could - but he could at least try to let it go, and doing this wouldn't help him let go.

She sighed when he told her not to blame God. "Well, then who do you want me to blame?" she asked. "It wasn't your fault, it wasn't the Big Guy's - what do you want me to say to make you feel better?" In the end, she supposed there was nothing. Seth would stop mourning when he was damn good and ready... she just hoped that was sooner rather than later.

Ha! She'd known he would perk up at the mention of Nikkolai, even if the reason she had brought him up wasn't exactly a good one. Damn, that boy was like Seth's drug. But hell, she couldn't blame him. "He's still here," she reiterated his words, although this time as a firm statement. "He was in the kitchen making coffee or something. He looked a little dazed... but maybe he was just tired." She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.

His next question made her laugh sharply. "What didn't you do is a better question!" she exclaimed. "You pretty much molested him! I sent him to the bar to look for you, I walked another way, I go to see if he was having any luck and there you were, sliding your hands up his shirt and kissing him like some desperate fool." She shook her head and settled for looking away from him. She was, in truth, completely disappointed for the way he had acted. Even if it had been the alcohol that had made him do it, she knew that even without it he would have done that if Nikki had ever allowed him. "I'm surprised he let you go that far..." she whispered. "He was barely putting up a struggle, but eh. It wasn't hard to see you'd scared him shitless though."

As if he knew her exact thought process, he muttered, "At least I didn't smoke anything," with a sigh. He knew his cousin well, almost well enough to predict her thoughts when he added his empathy powers to the mix. At the moment, though, his powers were all a bit haywire because of the alcohol lingering in his system.

"I don't want you to blame anyone, I guess," he said, groaning at the meer thought of trying to pin the blame. There were too many options, too many choices, too many possible reasons for everything that had transpired to actually pick one out. All that was left was to move on with his miserable life.

Well, that explained who had made coffee. "Maybe I'll go have a cup," he said, again propping himself up before rolling over onto his back and staring up at the ceiling. Coffee would be nice right about now... Warm coffee, with lots of sugar.

What she said next, though, made his eyes widen. "I WHAT?!" he yelled, suddenly clapping a hand over his mouth as he realized Nikkolai would hear. "Good God, what the Hell was I thinking..." he bemoaned, rubbing his eyes with both hands. "Christ, he probably thinks I'm a total ass- I am a total ass," he corrected himself, knowing that there was no way he could possibly make up for this one. How the Hell do you say sorry for that? "He probably won't speak to me again," he admitted with a downtrodden sigh, quietly enough so that Nikki wouldn't hear him in the kitchen, adding, "Not that I blame him..."

"Be glad you didn't," Cassiel barked. Opening the shades, waking him up, and being this overly obnoxious was light treatment. If he had been smoking anything it could have been much, much worse, and she was certain Seth knew that.

She was startled at how loud he had become and lifted her index finger to her lips, 'shh'ing him harshly. There was no doubt in her mind that Nikkolai had heard that one, so she was glad when Seth covered his mouth and proceeded to lower his volume. "Well, you were apparently thinking that you wanted him bad and didn't really care that he didn't feel the same," she said. The question had most likely been rhetorical, but there was no reason she couldn't rub it in a little more for the guilt factor.

She rolled her eyes when he admitted he thought Nikkolai would never speak to him ever again. "If he didn't want to speak to you again, if he never wanted to see your face from this point on, then why did he stay the night? Why did he want to keep an eye on you, eh? Why did he tell me he wasn't going to leave until he saw you? Yeah, you screwed up bad, but he's still here for you. You're overreacting. You know Nikkolai isn't that petty. He knows you were drunk. He'll speak to you again." Cassiel reached out her hand to affectionately ruffle Seth's hair.

"You should probably get up. Go talk to him, go eat, do something - don't stay in bed all day. You need to have a talk with him anyway and, as much as I'd like to be here to witness it, I have a very important hair appointment in a half an hour so I'm going to have to leave soon to get there a bit early." She hated to condemn them for the long, long talk she thought they were going to have, but she knew it was for the best.

And things had to turn out for the best this time around.

Ack, more quick, stinging twinges of pain from her loud voice. Hadn't he suffered enough abuse from her already? Yeesh... He might've messed up big time, but in the end, he only wound up hurting himself, right?

Well...

From what Cass said...

His heart sank as she began her explanation. There were snippets of events coming back to him, albeit slowly, and in muddled patches. It was like watching a movie through foggy glasses, everything was blurred together. Ugh, but she was right... He had done all those things.

Still, he had to admit that Cass had a point. Why would he do all those things if he was truly angry? He sighed, too confused and in too much pain to try and think about it anymore. The whole ordeal made him want to bury his head in the pillow again, but he obviously couldn't when Cass was ruffling his hair. "Guess so," he said, offering a slight smile.

"I didn't plan on it," he muttered, referring to staying in bed all day. He smirked as she mentioned wanting to watch, saying, "Your shounen-ai fantasies probably aren't getting fulfilled anytime soon, sorry to say." Naturally, he had to roll his eyes at her reason for leaving- it was always appearances first with her. Still, at least she'd be out of the apartment, and he and Nikki could work things over in peace.

Things would turn out for the best this time around.

Cassiel's eyes widened and she threw a hand over her mouth in an attempt to stifle her laughter. Shonen-ai fantasies, he was insane! Her face became red and she lowered her hand, looking down as she continued to giggle. As soon as she snorted Cassiel stood from the bed, somewhat embarrassed. "I'll see you later Seth," she said, using her hand to fan herself before grabbing the door. Just before she left, she turned her head over her shoulder and whispered, "Sorry about your own fantasies!", stuck her tongue out, and left the room before he could retort.

A grin was still on her face when she left and she made sure to poke her head into the kitchen to check on Nikkolai. He was still sitting there with the coffee, and it looked like he hadn't even touched it. She rolled her eyes and cleared her throat, which made him finally look up to notice her. "Hey, blondie, go see him," she said. "He really wants to see you. Leave that crap there, I don't think he's going to want it." With that Cassiel turned on her heel and left the apartment, closing the door behind her and not looking back.

Nikkolai watched dumbly as she left, her words not seeming to click until the door slammed as she left. He pushed out from the table and stood, biting his lip softly. He'd heard the yelling, the Italian, as well as silence. He could guess that they had just speaking quietly then, but for all they knew they hadn't said a word to each other at all. He made his way to Seth's room, a little nervous about seeing him, but finally shook the feeling away. All Seth had was a hangover, it wasn't like he just came out of life-altering surgery!

But still, he was afraid of seeing him, especially after what he'd felt last night and had no other choice than to admit was real.

He moved into the bedroom, staying in the threshold and standing there perhaps a little awkwardly. "Hey," he said quietly, offering a a warm smile. That was really the only kind of smile he was capable of. He closed the door and stepped closer to the bed and sat at the foot, almost hanging off the edge. "You feeling okay? Sorry she yelled at you." Nikkolai tried to stop himself from touching Seth, and also tried to stop himself from letting it show that he wanted to. "I'm sure it didn't help the hangover." He offered a quiet, nervous laugh.

Haha, she was blushing! Oh, he'd been all too right, it was obvious. In the end, after all of her tormenting him, he'd managed to snatch away the last laugh. Victory was his, if only for the moment! He heard her leave, door clicking shut behind her. Thank God.

And then Nikki was standing in the doorway.

He'd been trying to think of what to say in the brief time span between Cass's exit and Nikki's entrance. He'd thought about apologizing, about staying silent, about making excuses... He couldn't even remember what he'd decided on anymore, though. The moment Nikkolai had stepped through the door, his prior thoughts were all dashed away like ashes in the wind. What could he say anyway? He'd already admitted that he loved Nikki, even if he knew the feeling wasn't reciprocated in the same way.

He really hadn't been expecting Nikkolai to come closer at all, even if he remained at the very edge of the foot of the bed. All he could manage was a nervous smile and a, "Yeah, I'm fine," before he gave an awkward laugh. God, the whole situation was just teeming with awkward feelings in the air, and not without good reason. Finally, Seth sighed, and began, "About last night..." before he trailed off. What could he say? There was no way he could make up for this, not if he couldn't even bring himself to talk about it! In the end, he just said, "I'm an awful friend," with a clearly pained grin and laugh.

"About last night..."

No, you don't have to bring it up, it's okay. I don't mind. Really, please, don't say it, please just — no! Nikkolai looked away from him. That pained laugh and those words about being an awful friend... he couldn't take it. Seth wasn't a horrible friend, he wasn't as terrible as he made himself seem. He was wonderful to him, he was amazing and kind and... and... were there enough words? He looked down, trying to gather what he was supposed to respond with. He new what he wanted to say, he had pieced it all together in his head last night when he had been unable to sleep, but now that the time had actually come his throat felt tight. Oh God, he couldn't do it, he couldn't ask Seth to do that, he couldn't ask him for forgiveness or to understand.

Nikkolai sighed deeply, turning back to look at Seth. He was still completely silent and he shifted awkwardly, mustering his courage. He could do it. It was okay. It wasn't like Cassiel was there anymore, they were alone.

Oh well that was a scary thought. They were alone.

He felt his face begin to burn with a flush and he cleared his throat before moving closer to Seth. His movements were slow and nervous, but he had to do this before every last ounce of his resolve melted away. "H-Hey Seth, um yeah, about last night..." he said, his voice wobbling over each word. "You're not an awful friend. I just, I, um..."

Nikkolai reached his hand out to touch Seth's shoulder, averting his eyes. It wasn't too late to make up a lie, to say something, to act like the gesture held no affection at all.

Who was he kidding? Of course it was.

His hand moved to caress Seth's cheek, his heart pounding in his chest. He could hear it ringing in his hears and even in his throat as he brushed his thumb over Seth's cheekbone the way he had when he'd wiped his tears away. He turned his hand over and the back of his knuckles trace down his face before pulling his hand back and asking, in a shaky but certain voice, "Would you kiss me again?"

Why was it that he had a habit of making people look away from him when he talked? It was becoming a problem to his self confidence. He could tell that Nikki was trying to find something to say, something to fill the horrendous void that was silence.

But what was this? When Nikki looked up again, his face was flushed, and he was shaking as if he was having a minor seizure. "Are you all right?" he said, before reaching a hand out to help steady his friend. Was he making his way towards him because he felt sick or something? No, it seemed like he was just nervous. Really, really nervous.

It gave him a lot of relief to hear Nikki telling him that he wasn't an awful friend, even though the flush on his face still worried him a little. He hoped that Nikki wasn't getting sick, especially not if it meant that he'd maybe given it to him yesterday.

And then he realized that there was a hand on his shoulder. His hand on Nikkolai's shoulder, Nikkolai's hand on his... Did he realize how close they were? Did he realize where his hand was? It was Seth's turn to be confused; he thought Nikki-

He was-

There was no way-

Somewhere, in the back of his head, he heard voices screaming in joy; Beethoven's "An die Freude," Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus," Rutter's, "Gloria," they all paled in comparison! Those words, that question, they'd set off an orchestra for him! He couldn't believe what he was hearing, it didn't make any sense! Nikkolai wasn't like that, he- Oh who he was arguing with, it didn't matter! Here he was, being asked such a simple yes or no question by the one he loved, and he was bothering to question it? Ha, he really must have been insane!

He moved his hands up to cup Nikki's face, holding him steady. He knew his poor friend was probably nervous beyond belief, hence the shaking... For a moment, he considered whether he should ask him to explain or not.

Just a moment. The answer came quickly enough.

Slowly, gently, he leaned in towards Nikkolai, making sure that the other could pull away at any moment if he wanted to. Lips brushed tentatively against lips before he wrapped both of his arms around the blonde, pulling closer to him. He deepened the kiss, pressing his lips more firmly against the other's before gently sucking upon his bottom lip, nibbling ever-so-lightly before he pulled back just an inch or so.

What should he say? He tried to find words, but there were none that seemed right. In the end, he settled for a quietness, one that seemed so very different from all the other ones they'd had to endure before. It was... Comfortable. Warm.

They were so close. So close and yet so very far... although Seth hadn't openly said anything about the distance he felt, Nikkolai could feel it too. It was tangible, like a brick wall always separated them. He'd do anything to smash that wall down and he knew that the answer was in his request. A small smile broke his lips apart when Seth moved his hands to either side of his face. He was going to do it, he was going to kiss him, he was going to place those warm, loving lips against his like he had last night...

In the following moments his shaking lessened until eventually it came to a complete stop and his heart slowed down enough for him to be able to relax in Seth's hold. Nikkolai had made up his mind a long time ago that this couldn't be wrong. The only thing that had ever held him back was the fact that not everyone saw it that way but Goddamn them all he couldn't care anymore. This was his life, this was Seth's life, and he knew that it was the only thing that could really make either of them happy.

The moment Seth's lips brushed against his, Nikkolai's eyes fluttered closed and he could feel Seth pulling him closer. His arms moved to do the same, wrapping around Seth's shoulders so that his hands could lock at the nape of his neck. He sighed in soft contentedness when Seth deepened the kiss and returned it, somewhat disappointed when Seth began to pull away. Nikkolai pulled back a little as well and loosened his hold on Seth, his hands unlocking and sliding to either of his shoulders.

His heart felt swollen in his chest and a smile, a wider one this time, curved at his lips. For the first time, the silence didn't bother him. He rested his forehead against Seth's and took a deep breath, giving him a light peck on his lips and rubbing the tip of his nose against his in a sweet Eskimo kiss.

"Third first kiss," he said with a soft laugh. The thought of it amused him, but he didn't regret it. Seth was entirely worth it.

"I'm pretty sure I love you..." he added. He wanted to explain everything, but the moment seemed so warm and he didn't want to ruin that! But he... he had to apologize. "Listen, I should have said that a long time ago," he said quietly. "Told you that, I mean. I'm really sorry for making you suffer since the day in the park, 'cause I knew even then..." Nikkolai just stopped there and looked at Seth, his smile somewhat weaker. "Forgive me, hunny?"

God it felt amazing to finally call him that.

He gave a deeply contented sigh into their kiss as Nikki moved his hands to the nape of his neck. Those hands were warm, just like he'd imagined they probably would be... Warm and soft. He felt them move to his shoulders as they pulled away from each other slowly, opening his eyes as they did so.

Finally, he could give Nikkolai a real smile, one that wasn't muddled by grief or despair. He could tell that Nikkolai was probably still nervous; the deep breath that preluded his quick kiss was probably to help calm himself. The blonde had such a beautiful smile, and thinking on it, this was probably the first time he'd ever been able to smile because of something like this.

Yes, that seemed to be the case... Seth gave a slightly nervous chuckle, saying, "Sorry the first two were so bad," before it turned into regular laughter. What did that matter now? It was in the past; what was done was done.

The next thing Nikkolai said made his heart skip a beat, tripping over itself before it started up again. How long had he wanted to hear those words? Too long, he thought with a grin. When Nikkolai began to apologize and lose some of his brilliant smile, all Seth could do was pull him closer so that their bodies nearly touched.

"It's all right," he whispered softly into the other's ear, wrapping his arms around him. "I don't need to forgive you, there's nothing to forgive," he added, running his hands up and down Nikki's back as he leaned in to kiss those beautiful, soft lips once more.
