Euphemia didn't think there was anything unusual about the instructions she received earlier that morning, telling her that she was to visit the office of the Academy's Therapist once her classes were complete. Even after all this time, she still wasn't entirely sure what was considered normal for students and what was not, so she saw no reason she should be concerned.

Euphemia was not aware of the fact when she arrived, but before her enrollment, the scouts were made very clear of her circumstances. While her unfamiliarity with ordinary teenaged life was unfortunately common in the school, her own dehumanised upbringing was something that would eventually need to be addressed. Simply allowing her to interact with others her age and to learn by exposure was helping, slowly but certainly. However, her teachers had noticed multiple interactions during her classes that informed them that more direct intervention may be necessary. So, an appointment was made, and the young girl was sent to the therapists office for the afternoon.

She sat outside the the door on one of the many chairs, back straight, hands calmly resting in her lap as she stared ahead, waiting until she was called inside.

As a rule of thumb, Valli didn't really like mandatory therapy sessions. They tended to be less productive than usual, and Valli was a very firm believer that the most important factor in therapy was the ability to recognize there was a problem, and mandatory therapy sessions did not bode well on that.

But he did them anyway. Some people didn't know they needed help, and that was who he was there for.

Valli popped his head out the door at the exact designated time, and found the girl sitting just outside, patient and on time. That was good. He had plenty of no-shows when it came to mandatory sessions, and having one less was... well, far nicer.

"Miss Dvorak?" Valli said, stepping clear of the door and gesturing for her to come in. "Would you like to come in and sit down?"

Euphemia blinked, shifting her attention as soon as the door opened. She promptly rose to her feet upon being addressed, standing up straight and facing Valli.

"Yes, that is me." She nodded, taking a brief moment to seemingly size him up. Euphemia noticed right away how well put together the man looked. Well dressed, well groomed, clean cut and sharp. "You are Mr Bryndisarson? It is a pleasure to meet you."

She bowed her head politely, always one to show deference to figures of authority, and stepped inside, finding a seat in his office and sitting down.

"Mr Bryndisarson, might I ask the purpose of this appointment?" She asked with her usual overly formal tone, tilting her head slightly to the side, face expressionless. "The staff member who informed me I would be seeing you today was quite brief with his explanation. I do not believe I fully understand why I am speaking with you today."

She was... polite. Together. His first impressions were overwhelmingly positive. Maybe a bit formal? But that was exceptionally common for people coming for a first therapist appointment. People acted like they had a stick running up their back the first time almost universally.

But it was once she'd passed those first few moments and was still looking absolutely stiff... blank even... that Valli began to realize what he was dealing with.

Well, it would hardly be the first time.

"The school has some concerns about your upbringing, and want to make sure you're fitting in just fine here. If you'll step into my office, we can speak in private a bit more extensively."

"Ah, very well. If that is the case, I will endeavour to allay what concerns you may have."

Euphemia, it seemed, completely missed the point of what he was saying. She thought that this would be a simple evaluation, some kind of test to ensure her behaviour was appropriate for the Academy, rather than something meant to help her or address any issues she had. She did as he asked, stepping inside and sparing a quick moment to look around the office before her usual analytical gaze returned to Valli. She sat down, maintaining her polite posture, ready to begin.

Definitely stiff, but he'd had worse. He'd had so much worse, and he closed the door behind them before moving over, taking a seat himself.

"Before we start, three things to mention. One, anything you say in here is strictly confidential. I'm only allowed to break that confidentiality in the event that someone's in immediate danger. Two, I have a low-level aura that makes me appear more put together than I might otherwise. It doesn't tamper with your thought process anything more than me spending a bit longer getting ready each morning would. Three, unless you acknowledge me first, I won't acknowledge you outside the room."

Quick, simple, and easy.

"Have you been adjusting alright? Encountering any difficulties?"

Euphemia blinked once after he mentioned the aura, she didn't like things that affected her mind like that, but she also had no reason to think he was lying about how minor the effect was. Otherwise, she simply nodded along with the rest of the explanation. She didn't quite understand why he wouldn't acknowledge her outside this room, but she didn't think to question it for the moment.

"I believe I have been integrating well." She began. "I have been told that my coursework is satisfactory, and I have had few problems with my peers."

She paused for a moment, her head tilting to the side slightly, before continuing.

"I must admit, however, I am uncertain as to what end my time at the academy is to serve."

He imagined people would describe Euphemia as robotic, but he preferred flattened affect. It was technical and accurate, and it didn't have any emotional judgement attached. Robotic was bad. The badness was implied, even on an island with literal robots.

"You aren't sure where you're going from here? Or what you're doing after?" Valli asked, as uncertain about what they were actually asking as Euphemia was uncertain about the academy. He had a general idea of their situation, but only the broadest strokes.

"I understand the purpose of the academy," She explained. "I know that my studies here are to both provide me with practical knowledge and social capacity needed to function within this community. Though I admit my grasp on the latter is not quite as strong as my grasp on the former."

Her lips pulled into a tiny frown, just for a moment. It was one thing to know she was missing something and another to truly understand what it was. She felt frustrated, just a bit. Her usual blank expression resumed as she kept talking.

"I am just not certain as to why. Such things have never been necessary for me before. I do not fully know what the purpose of it all is."

Ah. That was... well, it was philosophical, wasn't it? Why. Why did they exist? Why did they have to be part of society? But maybe it was better to focus in on the little things. The things that more directly effected them.

There were a lot of options was what he was getting at.

"You have a new life here," Valli said, "which means new procedures. New experiences. A part of life--a large part of it--is experiencing new things to discover what you do or don't like. In many cases, none of this is really a matter of necessary. It's a matter of... enjoyment. Of learning. Both educationally, and socially."
