That wonderful gent over there
It had only been one day since Cirro had arrived at the island. So far, things had been a little much for him to take in. He knew he was going to see some form of magic before he got there, but he never could've imagined the things and people he'd see. He knew that today was probably going to be the same, so he headed out to mentally calm himself down first. Before long, he'd found a big lake, just far enough from the school that he'd still be able to find his way back. There was something calming about lakes, and it was early enough that nobody was around, the perfect spot to relax. He dropped his backpack down beside a flat rock, and pulled out a sheet of paper and a few pencils. This place was going to be his home, so he planned on mapping it to get a better idea of where everything was; and also to prevent himself from getting lost. Cirro took his time, drawing the lake and anything he thought was a notable landmark on to the paper, before eventually looking over at the forest next to him. There was something odd about the woods that he couldn't put his finger on, he stared at them for over a minute before it started to rain and he was broken from his train of thought.

Cirro looked up at the sky with concern as his hair turned from brown to blue, and his paper started getting wet. "No, no, no!" He shoved everything into his backpack to keep it dry, then took a better look around the lake. It didn't seem like there was anyone around, which meant he could just dance for a few minutes and make it sunny out. Although there was something about being out in the open that made him feel watched, so it took him a few minutes before he decided to do it. He went behind a tree right beside the water and relunctantly started dancing. His body always looked enthusiastic when he did this, but his face was just beat red and his eyes were closed. Even with no one around, dancing outside was just plain embarrassing.

About one minute in, he performed a jump to the side, and right into the lake. The spot he fell wasn't as shallow as he thought it would be, but it wasn't until he put his foot down to touch the bottom that he really started to panic. It didn't reach. To most people, this wouldn't be a problem, but Cirro never actually learned to swim. He started kicking and flailing to stay up, but all it did was push him further from the edge. He was almost positive that there was nobody around, but he screamed anyway, hoping someone would hear him. "Help! I can't-" He bobbed below the water while he was yelling, swallowing water and coughing in the process. He was managing to stay afloat for the time being, but he knew it wouldn't last much longer.

After dropping the spiderlings off at school in the mornings, Chloe had little else to do but study. It was one of her best times to study as well - ever since she moved in to Malara's place, she found herself trying to act like a mother to all of Pandora's children. It may have been good for them, but not so much for Chloe's ability to focus on school.

So, this morning she was taking the opportunity to study. One of her friends, a psychology major, insisted that it was good to study in a bunch of different places because that would improve recall. This morning, she had decided to go sit by the lake and get her reading done.

Her notes got wet. Why didn't she think to check the weather? She was frustrated, packing up her things, just about to leave the lake and go find shelter somewhere inside when she heard the screams. He can't what? She looked in the direction of the screaming. Oh. He can't swim. She stood there for just a moment, processing this. He was going to drown if nobody helped him, and nobody else seemed to be close enough to do anything about it.

So she had to help him.

Chloe ran over to the tree closest to him. Her speed was inhuman. She tossed the backpack at the base of the tree, then jumped up and grabbed one of the branches. CRRRACK! She tore it off, then carried it over to Cirro as fast as she could.

"Hey! Grab this! I'll pull you in!" She stuck the branch out towards him.

Cirro was constantly bobbing above and below the water, but through all the thrashing, he thought he caught the sound of another person. There was somebody there. He couldn't see who it was, but he did see when the tree branch appeared right by him. He didn't hesitate one bit before grabbing a hold of the tree limb, hanging on for dear life when he got the chance.

Gripping the branch as if he'd die if he let go, Cirro coughed up water while he turned his head to see who had saved him. At first glance, it seemed like an everyday ordinary girl a few inches shorter than he was, but he quickly realised he was wrong. The girl had horns and a tail? Oddly enough, the necklace she had on also looked more like a collar than anything else. It really was true, nobody on the island was normal.

Horns or not, he'd be fish food if it wasn't for the tree branch in his arms, so he made sure to thank her as soon as he stopped coughing. Although, he didn't realise how shaken up he was, and it came out rather jittery. "Th, thank you so much." He was shivering pretty bad, but he wasn't sure if it was because he was cold or in shock. Either way, he got lucky this time, and it was over now.

As Chloe said she would, she pulled him out of the lake by the branch. She would also help him stand up, pulling him to his feet with surprising ease. "No problem. Are you alright?" She looked him over, checking for any scrapes or blood or broken limbs.

Idly, she considered his blue hair. She wondered if she should dye her hair, like he probably did with his - it would make her horns 'pop' a bit more.

"How did you end up in there?" Did someone push him in? She hadn't seen anyone else near him.

Something seemed off to Cirro. As the girl pulled him out, she didn't look like she was having a hard time at all. She was unnaturally strong for how she looked, then there was the horns and the tail; Cirro couldn't put a finger on what she was, but it certainly couldn't be human.

"Oh, I'm fine now I think." He looked around to see if he was actually hurt, but he didn't appear to be, just shaken up. He let out a sigh, relieved to be back on the ground. It really was unlike him to be so careless, he didn't know what he was thinking.

Then came the question that he knew he couldn't answer. "well... umm... you see..." Cirro's face went bright red as he started to explain what really happened. She had saved him, the least he could do was be honest. He said it quietly, but she could've easily heard everything he said. "I was... dancing. See, I can sorta make it sunny out by dancing, and I was trying to, you know, change the weather, and I ended up falling in the water when I was... yeah..."

Trying to quickly change the subject, he raised his soaking wet arm up to offer a hand shake. "I'm Cirro by the way, it's nice to meet you."

Cirro seemed so embarrassed about his power. Chloe smirked without realizing it. All the stammering and blushing was just adorable.

"I'm Chloe. And... ah, if it means anything, I think your power is kind of cool actually. You would be able to save any beach day from getting ruined by a storm." She shook his hand. It was still very wet.

"We should probably get you a towel or something. Do you live at the school?" If that was the case this would be easier. He would be able to just go back to his dorm and get a change of clothes.

Cirro hadn't revealed his power to a whole lot of people, but of the few that he had revealed it to, none had ever described it as cool. It had always just been weird.

Now that he knew the name of the girl who rescued him, he decided to thank her again using it. "Thank you Chloe, it means a lot." He wasn't sure if he was thanking her again for rescuing her or for the compliment, but he just felt that another thanks was in order. He mustered up a smile, he was in a good mood now.

"That's not a bad idea." Water was still dripping from his hair and sweater, and the rain might not have been more than a drizzle, but it wasn't going to let him dry off. "I do, I just moved in yesterday." He walked over and picked his backpack up off of the wet grass, throwing it on. It wasn't like he could get much more wet than he already was.

Chloe followed along and picked up her own backpack. "Wow. You're fresh off the boat, then! Or plane. Or... spaceship. I came in on what you could call, ah, a spacetime anomaly, myself." She was back in the mode of thinking about the cause. Here she was, head of the DSU, saving a new kid from drowning. It would be a bit tacky to go bragging about it, of course, but man did she make at least one good first impression here. Any time she could get someone on her side was a victory.

"So, how new are you to all this stuff? I mean, have you ever met a demon before now?" He might have figured out what Chloe was by now. The horns and her happily swaying tail were a bit of a giveaway.

"Spacetime anomaly?" Cirro didn't understand, but that sounded a lot cooler than how he got there. "I came by boat, it was so lonely and creepy, it was the... well I guess the second scariest thing I've ever done now..." As he walked, he got distracted by Chloe's tail. Just one day ago, a person with a tail would've been completely unbelievable to him. But now, here they were with a pointed tail bobbing along behind them, right in front of his eyes.

"Yeah, I uh, up until I got here, I'd never seen anything like this aside from my own ability. It's been very- Wait a second, did you say demon!?" He didn't think those existed for real, but it made sense. The tail, the horns, the only thing that didn't add up, was that he'd always imagined demons as being, well, evil. "You're an actual living demon? I didn't even know those existed in real life." Cirro looked at Chloe sceptically, as if he didn't quite believe her. But it was probably the truth, she had all the right features, except for one thing.

"But wait, aren't demons supposed to be- uh, evil?" Clearly the demons from books and movies were different from what demons must actually be, Cirro just wasn't sure how different.

"I was accidentally summoned," Chloe explained. "It's a long story, but the short version is nobody knows how it makes sense for me to be here. Sorry about your boat ride, though." She wasn't sure how a boat ride could be scary - maybe he got caught in a tropical storm?

And here it was. Cirro thought demons were 'supposed' to be evil. Chloe smiled a little bit. "I'm glad you asked," she said. "A lot of people come here thinking that. Most of us are just... well, not ordinary people, exactly, but we just want to get along in life without causing a bunch of trouble. It doesn't stop people from giving us trouble for being demons, though." She shrugged. "I had a couple of people giving me a hard time for that when I was a new kid. Even though I didn't know demons were real before I came here, or that I actually was one. It took me a couple of months to get straightened out on that."
