Hearing Claire giggle made Hal ease up little more. Which was honestly good because if he were anymore nervous than now, he'd probably mess something up. But that wasn't much of a problem. For now. He didn't need to worry about that.

Hal didn't really notice the blush but her movement made him a little curious, making him tilt his head to the side. He quickly shrugged it off with a soft smile, "Well, I kind of saw some crepes and pretzels a few stalls down from here. I could go for some crepes actually," he said, turning to face forward. He kept his pace but now he was walking just a step ahead of her.

"I don't think it's that bad being here early. Besides, that way we have time to find a really great spot! There's supposed to be fireworks later so we can find a good spot where we cans see them and the noise won't be too loud," There was a hum in his voice when he spoke, obvious that he was looking forward to it but just a second after, he paused for a moment, "So um, do you like fireworks?" he asked suddenly. "I-I mean, we could always just... leave and hang out somewhere else, if you don't."

"Crepes?" She asked with a curious look on her face. She had heard of crepes, but she wasn't sure as to what they tasted or looked like. She had tried a pretzel, the salty weird texture thing. "I'd like to try that." She says with a nod as she continued to stare at him, lightly smiling. He was acting so... Different. Maybe he was trying to impress her? Claire wouldn't be surprised by that.

As he explained that they would watch fireworks together, she grinned. "That sounds like you're going to try and cuddle me." She said with a small laugh. "I mean I wouldn't mind but you may as well just say that." Claire says as she puts her hands behind her back. "Yeah, fireworks sounds really good. Are they scary? I've never seen them but I'm willing to try." She nodded happily. In the back of her head, she was worried because she didn't want to cling onto him if the fireworks scared her.

"Oh! You haven't tried crepes before?" His eyes seemed to sparkle at the discovery. Hal hummed, almost a little too obvious that he was glad Claire sounded interested to try it. "It's really great. They're kinda like pancake--sorta--but a little more or the cream and fruit than the pancake itself," he told her as they made their way to the stall, a skip in his step as he lead the way. In all honesty, Hal was simply just looking forward to the food. He wasn't much for festivals and parties but pastries and sweets was a sure way to talk him into things.

"That sounds like you're going to try and cuddle me." She said with a small laugh. "I mean I wouldn't mind but you may as well just say that." Claire says as she puts her hands behind her back. "Yeah, fireworks sounds really good. Are they scary? I've never seen them but I'm willing to try."

Hal's reaction was just as immediate. His smile dropped and he made a pout, a light blush dusting back into his face. "Th-that's not what I meant," he managed to say, casting his gaze aside. She didn't have to say that, he thought to himself. If Hal had to be honest, he just... kinda wanted to watch the fireworks with someone for a change. Over two years in the island and he never went to any festivals. A change of pace would have done him good, right?

"Well, the explosion part is pretty startling, honestly. Especially when you're too near and all," he told her, matter-of-factly. Hal turned his gaze back to her, a grin on his face, when he continued, "Other than that, fireworks are really great though! Stars are great but fireworks are a whole 'nother thing! Just imagine the sky getting lit up in different colors!"

As if he'd noticed he was getting carried away just out of excitement, he cleared his throat, suddenly feeling shy about his outburst. "A-anyway, what do you want to get? I'm probably getting one with strawberries and blueberries."

"Hm, that sounds really good actually." She said with a tiny, glimmering smile. There were many things that she had yet to try. In a way, she wanted to try these things with Hal, because she trusted him enough to know that he would let her experience fun things. She wasn't going to admit to him that she had also no idea what pancakes tasted like. Maybe Hal would be the one to open her culinary eyes too.

"Oh?" Claire said with a bit of doubt in her tone. She wanted to mess around with him, but she wasn't going to push whatever friendship they had on the whim that he liked her. That part would come in due time if it was meant to be. To them, they had a world of time to figure out if that's what they wanted to be to each other. For now, they needed to enjoy themselves and the time they were and will be spending together.

"That does sound amazing, really." She smirked lightly at him as she imagined what the sky would look like with different, odd placed colors in it. "I may have to plug my ears though, if it's super loud." Her ears were not noise sensitive, but she didn't enjoy having loud bangs unless it was worth it. It would all depend on if these firework things were worth the time to her. Considering that he had compared them to stars, which she tried to watch every night, that alone lifted her skeptical view on them lightly.

She enjoyed when he went on his little rants about things that he was passionate about. It gave her a different point of view from her normally closed off one. "I'll get the same then, unless you want to suggest a type to me?" She tilted her head lightly to the right as she stared emotionless at him.

For a second, Hal was stunned; seeing smile, even though it was just that small made him feel a small tug in his chest. A little embarrassed from his reaction, he averted his gaze. "It will be once you try it," he said with a hum. Hal did try to brush it off; it was probably nothing, he told himself. All he was going to do was enjoy the celebration and not worry too much about anything other than that.

Except well, Claire knew how to push his buttons. Hal kept the pout on his face and refused to look at her for a moment, "It's really not what I meant; I could watch them by myself if you don't want to, you know," he said jokingly. Hal honestly didn't want to think about what was between them other than just being friends. For now, that was all he could probably take. He knew enough that Claire probably wanted it that way too but sometimes her teasing could go so far. He knew she wouldn't push it; that was established already almost ages ago.

"Anyway," Hal cleared his throat, turning his attention to the menu for a second before looking back at Claire, "Well, they do have more but I mean, the berry mix is almost always a good first option," he told her. He easily brushed off her stare and while it would usually make people uneasy, for Hal, he was almost already used to it. He turned back to the counter called for two orders.

"So anyway, about the fireworks," he said, quickly turning his attention back to Claire, "They're probably going to fire them off from the beach so they won't be too loud from around here but I think it's visible from the hill near the forest--" Hal stopped mid-sentence as if he'd realized a sudden mistake. It wasn't so much as a mistake but it was more of a sudden trigger. Hearing himself say 'forest' reminded him of his little adventure over the summer. It wasn't the best experience and he still had a few scars to remember it by.

"It's not really too far into the forest, just around the outskirts. We won't be able to see much if we get any further but the noise would have probably been reduced." Hal tried to crack a smile but it was like his lip twitched for a split second. "Do you want to go there later?"

It seemed as if he always knew what to say. As she paid full attention to his words, she wondered if her reactions had set him off. Maybe? Was she coming off as over needy or clueless about basic ideas? Even if she was, she probably wouldn't know how to stop herself from well, being herself. It seemed as if her happiness and kindness towards him was almost uncomfortable for him, as he had recently been looking away and scoffing off her smiles and her words.

"No no, I wouldn't want to watch them alone. Neither would you I would say." She said as she nodded to herself, wanting to try a less joyful approach to her sentences. Maybe a lower happiness would prove to be more useful around Hal.

"Are they wild berries?" She asked him, wondering if they had been freshly picked from nearby bushes on the island. Most likely not, considering that getting mass amounts of berries from retailers would be a better option. "I mean if I like it enough the first time then I could try a different flavour next time." She said with a short smile as she looked up, then back at him in a matter of seconds.

"Did my babies scare you that much?" She wanted to chuckle as she could sense the fear and impact his unfriendly encounter with the wolves had been earlier. They weren't even bad, but maybe the fact that he wasn't fond of animals in general didn't help their friendship. "It's okay." She said as she leaned on him lightly, elbowing his ribcage to push herself away after a few seconds. "They won't be as bad, I'll call them off." Though that was more of a white lie, she would try to not have them all over him. She couldn't promise that she wouldn't mess with him, just a little bit for fun.

"That sounds romantic." Claire said as she looked over at Hal and stuck her tongue out, giggling softly as if to make fun of his request. Sticking her tongue back in, she thought for a moment. "I think that is a good plan there blushie. Don't worry either, I'll protect you from the big bad wolves." She said the last part in a sort of mocking voice, as she wouldn't never truly consider her family as bad. "Yes, once we are done here, I would really like to spend more time with you Hally." Claire smiled brightly as she lifted her arm and poked his cheek softly.

The sudden change in her voice surprised Hal. For a second, he couldn't find his voice and turned to look back at Claire. She looked contemplative and Hal wondered what could have suddenly upset her. Did he say something wrong? Maybe he did; Hal felt guilt thinking that he could have been the reason. "W-well.. it's... there's nothing wrong with watching fireworks alone; but it just kinda seems really sad compared to watching with others," he spoke quietly, feeling a little more conscious.

Her question had him pause to think for a moment. "I don't think they'd have actual wild berries but I think know a few who would make crepes with wild berries," he spoke, his voice a little unsure of his own words. It was something to wonder about but he usually didn't think about it for too long and his thoughts would casually just move to another thing to ponder about. Which was probably what he was doing already.

"Alright, but if you don't like it, I'll do anything you want me to do later," he said carelessly. He didn't put much thought into it either way. Right on cue, their order arrived. Hal handed Claire's her crepe first. "Here you go, mix berries and cream," he said with a hum.

The memory of his forest adventure over break flashed in his mind and made him shudder slightly. Hal seriously thought it would have been alright but after remembering they had been in the Forbidden Forest that time, everything went downhill. He was going to keep his distance from that area for a bit and he swore to every God in existence that he wasn't going to poke his nose into any forest denizen for a very, very long while.

The jab on his rib brought him back to the present and he looked at Claire with his a cheek puffed up. "I'm not gonna freak out," he insisted, but his voice broke in the middle of it. "As long as it's nowhere near the forbidden forest, I'm completely unfazed." Hal's words would have sounded believable, but considering this was Hal and between the two of them, his fear of animals wasn't a secret, it was a little bit comical.

As soon as Claire responded to his offer, Hal's cheeks turned red. Hal let out a soft groan, bumping his shoulder playfully with hers, in response to her teasing. He was sure he was expecting that response from her but he couldn't say it wasn't making him flustered.

"Geez, I said I'm not that scared, okay?" he told her, a small smile on his lips. He puffed his cheeks when Claire poked it. "Yeah, you better or I'm leaving," he said jokingly. "Do you still feel lik walking around? It'll still be a little while before the fireworks start."

For a second, Claire felt as if Hal was a different species. Claire had always been alone, so the thought of doing something new and interesting with someone she tolerated was a word thought for her. Would she be prepared for something like that? To now make such drastic changes to what she did in the forest? No matter, she was almost done with being in her little shell of aloneness. She now had someone who was reaching out to her.

"Of course." She grunted, knowing that the wild berries that she would receive would be mere frozen fruits that came from a bag. Grabbing the crepe, she blinked at it in half amazement and half disappointment. "This looks so different from what I expected." Claire added on as she rotated and observed it as if it was some bomb she had to defuse with her eyes.

Before she could take a bite of her delicious meal, his words made her laugh. Not that she wanted to make fun of her only true friend, she found it cute how his emotions changed. "They only bite people I don't like." She teased to him as she turned her gaze towards him. Though she knew her words were playing with his emotions, she couldn't help but feel a bit better to know that is blushes meant he wasn't denying the words that she had said.

As as she took her first bite of the crepe, her eyes widened at the unique taste. A million words came her, but silence is all the meal got. "Yeah, that's fine." She said after swallowing her foreign food as she nodded afterwards. "Thank you by the way, for the food." She looked away, not wanting to sound sincere to his face. "Next time you can make the crepes and I'll collect some wild berries." She said before taking another huge bite to shut herself up.
