"Ah. Finally. Some form of downtime. Constant hell, consisting of college classes, mostly, Student Council is busybusy, too.... so really it's a battle o' wits or some shit. Finally I get to relax yeah?"
The pyrokinetic was busy, in fact - trying to chat up the cocktail waitress who was at the bar now. He didn't mean anything harmful, of course - it was just life talk. The people here could really take an earful, which was why he usually visited bars when he drank. Of course, that meant he didn't get out much, maybe once in a blue moon. Wasn't much of a heavy drinker. And besides, he'd heard of so many bartenders who'd listen to people drunk. He was sure he wasn't that bad. Right...? Either way
He stole a glance at his phone, the screen still displaying a cup of steaming hot... something. He couldn't really pinpoint what it was. Most likely coffee? He'd changed the background on a whim. No texts, not yet.
"Anyways. Uh. Is my drink ready? I mean, there's no rush. Like, you guys make the best drinks around. I mean, hell. This apple one right here is super good. Seriously. I ain't joking with you." He chuckled, looking around.
"Y'know, generic bars like this one are really nice. They just provide this faded-out quality that really just... i dunno. It fits. It makes people comfy."
The waitress finally handed Nix his drink, with a look that clearly meant please stop talking.
"Oh, great! Thanks. Looks great." And so it was that e took a sip of the drink, shutting him up for a bit.

Diam sat at the bar, a deep red glass resting in his small hand. The chatter of the bar was slowly becoming a din of subtle stories for him to observe. His eyes followed a buzzed man stagger over to a woman who had just entered the bar. Another man in the back corner was trying to convince his friends to gamble with him. Both found themselves rejected.

The vampire kicked off the underside of the bar and spun his stool around. His dark eyes scanned over the patrons of the establishment. He took a sip of his drink and just allowed himself to watch. Something interesting usually happened if one was willing to wait long enough.

It was then that the guy actually took a second to look directly in front of himself - well, not directly, a ways away - not the point. The point was. Right across from the bar, over the rim of his drink glass, past the crowd of scantily-clad women and absolutely sloshed men, that he found himself looking at something really freakin' weird.
Was that a twelve-year old, in the bar with him?
A twelve-year old kid, holding what Nix was sure was a glass of wine or something, spinning on one of those fun stool thingies.
"Huh. Weird. 'Zat a kid in there?" he mused aloud, as he shifted off of his own seat and onto the floor.
"'Scuse me, miss. Mind watching my drink? Thanks!"
And with that, he made his way through the crowd, chatting up the passerby for a bit, beofre finally arriving at what he thought was the kid. And yeah, he looked like a kid, all right. A kid with wine.
"Hey, kid. Not to be mean, but uh. You know you're not s'pose t'have alcohol in here, yeah?"

Diam glanced up at Nix, blinking just once before letting out a long suffering sigh. It truly never ended with his affliction. He was forever cursed with the plight of misunderstanding, a rather ironic pain for one that was allowed to become so knowledgeable.

"While you may be patronizing a tavern, if you reside on this island you must have enough intelligence to realize things are rarely as they seem. You will find inebriation to be a deficient excuse for insults, young one, intentional or otherwise."

The vampire spun his drink in it's glance, watching the young man curiously for his response.

Shit.
Well, that flew riiiight over his head. for a twelve-year old kid, he sounded like Shakespeare. As far as he could comprehend, the little guy'd said something like don't judge a book by its cover. And yeah. He admitted it - he knew next to nothing about what the little guy'd said. So, he decided he'd ask further, pry a little bit.
"Uh. Okay. If I've got this right, Kid Shakespeare, you're tellin' me you're NOT a kid? And something' about insults. I dunno. Got no brain today, really. Mean, less than usual. Usually i'm a bit more smart about stuff like this. Needless to say, the drink's got me a little forgetful. Sorry about patronizing or whatever. Still, though. Wine?" he asked, pointing to the glass of reddish liquid -
And then it clicked, somewhat. This kid was deathly pale, and he was drinking reddish liquid.
"COINCIDENCE?! I THINK NOT!" Nix blurted, exactly five seconds before he'd decided he needed to keep his mouth shut. Which is why he covered his own mouth before speaking.
"Shit, sorry. My bad."

Diam raised an eyebrow as he raised his glass to his lips. "Indeed, I am no child in anything but appearance. Though a wide vocabulary does not confer me the label of the bard. I have not endeavored to create my own words in centuries."

The vampire's eyes shifted away from nix for a moment, an approximation of rolling them with fewer motions. He raised his hand and waved it in a bored, dismissive way. His words were only a few tones below a sigh. "The frequenting of an establishment, not the condensation of a father figure. So few of you understand your own words, how do you get anywhere?"

As Nix exclaimed loudly, Diam's eyes simply closed. He drew in a long, deep breath, though not of exasperation. It was more a measure of time, a tool for pacing. "The elegance of tact is another practice that many lack. Do tell, young one, what is it you find so very intentional as to scream into my ear?"

"Okay, gimme a sec to process what the hell you just said." Holding up a finger, Nix took a few seconds to kinda translate what the kid said. What he came up with was basically a condensed version of frank insults and questions.
When he next talked, Nix managed a scowl.
"Buddo. It's not nice to insult people. Even if it is kinda true. To answer your questions, I think I know why you're not a kid mentally but you are physically. Either a wizard or a vampire. Right?" Or was he way off the mark? He frankly had no idea. The pyrokinetic thought he was right in his assumption... But then again, he was kinda off the mark a lot. "... Right?" He tried again, a sheepish grin on his face. "I mean, it'd make sense, what with the presumed 'not aging' thing, and you frankly sound like an old-time person, so that'd fit too. And may I add your taste in wine is awesome, by the way. Anyway! I'm getting off track again. You're super pale too..." And he went on like this for a considerable time,

"Perhaps not nice, but sometimes necessary. There are many that respond to nothing but the bitterest of words." He took a sip of his drink, allowing Nix to carry on for a little while. After it became apparent that the man had no intention of stop, Diam just shook his head.

"A vampire is correct. My vocabulary and speech is indeed augmented from my many years. I do not know what about my drink preference is so awe inspiring, considering you do not know what it is. If you intend to flatter, it is best to consider your words before speaking them."

Eventually he stopped his chattering, remarking that the little-but-old guy had said something. It took a second to remember what it was - oh. Yeah. Uh. Right.
"Yeah, you got a point there, I guess. Some people just don't respond to flowers and sunshine, so you gotta hurt them instead. A little bit, t'least. A-Anyways. I'm not an English Major, so naturally i'm not the best at Englishing good, but I DO major in Magical Studies. As for the question of drinks-" here Nix raised a hand and scratched the back of his head, a sheepish expression on his face -" I was kinda curious about a kid drinking wine. I mean... I'unno if it's wine anymore, but still. Looked like it from across the bar." Heh.
"Guess I don't really don't think before complimenting people - second nature, probably."

Diam sipped again from his drink, blinking lightly at the chattering person in front of him. "Are you this loud while studying as well? If so, your instructors must have quite the time trying to teach over your din." Diam had begun to intentionally talk in a quieter tone. The intention was to force the man to listen, but it might just serve to get him ignored.

"The drink is a type of wine, yes. A blood wine, common among the establishments that are less concerned with catering to the tastes of my kind. You would find it less enjoyable I would imagine. At any point do you intend to stop chattering your teeth at me and provide me with a name?"
