Xavier jogged along a path in the park, a little bit ahead of him a golden retriever also ran along. Must have been only a few days since Xavier got back from almost dying, and then discharged from the hospital, before he set out. This had been his first time volunteering at a dog shelter that he intended to volunteer at more. Earlier in the day, he had done some community service. Not to mention he planned to look at some other places to do some volunteering. He had considered joining the Starlight Helpers Club but... he didn't want to ruin their reputation. He had already done a lot of that.
Xavier wore a unzipped hoodie over a tank top, with shorts and trainers on. Despite the weather having gotten colder, he had decided to wear the shorts simply because he wanted to feel the cold against his legs. Anyone close to him would see a bruise had formed on the right side of his jaw. It was very lucky that he was even able to jog right now, considering he had to wear a human shape charm in order to even have legs now. He also had to visit the ocean regularly now... not to mention the weird dream he had been having since this whole... not being human thing started. Always the same dream, with the pitch black and same voice that Xavier couldn't make the words out of. Always saying 'forget'. Xavier always waking in a cold sweat, his heart pounding.
Eventually, Xavier went and sat down on a bench while he called the golden retriever over. He had made sure that it was ok for him to jog while walking the dog. He pulled a tennis ball out of the hoodie's pocket then threw the ball as far as he could, the dog immediately sprinted after it. Since it was his first time doing this, they decided that the golden retriever would be the best option.
Xavier wiped sweat from his face, breathing hard. Before, he would've sat down on the bench and leaned back, thinking 'wow, jogging is so refreshing. I should do it more often again'. Considering the fact he could walk again, he should've been thinking that he was so lucky to be able to jog again. But didn't. He didn't feel anything actually. He leaned back in the bench and stared up at the sky, his eyes blank. Usually one to easily smile, his face was completely deadpan. The past week or two hadn't been pleasant for Xavier... to be honest, the past couple months hadn't been the best. Adding in his usual problems back at Halcyon, the whole end of the world deal, then the loss of his parents and all of his siblings except one, getting used and tricked once again by someone he considered a friend to do something that ruined his own reputation, causing a lot of people to get scared, ruining his relationships with everyone he knows, almost getting his little sister killed, almost dying himself, and becoming a merman while he was unconscious... Xavier wasn't exactly his easygoing self. He just felt tired and hurt. But he could never reveal that to anyone, it'd be unfair on them. He had already caused so many issues, he shouldn't cause anymore.
