Last Speaker of a Royal Language Dies at 68

Story:
Yartarg Vargrurnn, the last known speaker of the ancient language Tovalian, has passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 68. The elderly Yettetarian (a grey-skin four-armed humanoid alien species native to the planet Yettertan) for the longest time believed himself the last of his kind until news nearly a decade ago when anthropologist from the planet of Yettertan managed to locate him and visited Manta Carlos to interview him. Yartarg had since became a bit of celebrity to the Yettetarian since the interview. While Yartarg was flattered with their newfound attention, he has largely kept to himself and his pet german shepard Gloznoff.

Tovalian, known as the language of the celestials, was spoken only by the ancient Yettertan nobility until 200 years ago when a planet-wide revolt saw the overthrow of the Celestial Kings and ruling nobility. It was thought to much of Yettertans in the ensuring chaos that all of the nobility perished or were persecuted by the despotic empire that supplanted the monarchy. Yartarg however was descended from a small group of nobility that managed to escape on starship but were soon captured by space pirates and forced into slavery. Yartarg’s parents managed to escape captivity and found refuge on Manta Carlos some 70 years ago. With Yartarg’s death, the language is now considered extinct. But his work as a linguistic informant for the yettertan anthropologist Tarrka Jorv ensure that Tovalian isn’t completely lost.

“I am greatly saddened to learn of Yartarg’s death. He was a kind and gentle soul. If it were not for him my people would have lost that much more of our ancient heritage that was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution period. The ancient Celestial Empire and its language played a great part of yettertan history and now thanks to yartarg this language once exclusive to nobility can now be shared and enjoyed by everyone. Though Tovalian may be extinct for now, it is my hope to revive it in some limited capacity” spoke Tarrka informed of Yartarg’s death. Yartarg is the be buried in Manta Carlos cemetery with the Democratic Yettertian Union government helping pay for the funeral.

Gagaron the Destroyer of 10,000 Worlds finds new Passion in the Kitchen


Story:
Among one cozy rows of restaurants that dot Manta Carlos, the Glutton’s Hovel is but another quirky restaurant that has become quite popular with the populace with large appetites. It’s owner Gagaron jolly, larger than life figure whom keeps the kitchens running nearly 24/7. It’s a lot of work for the 10-foot-tall, 6-armed demon but making delights such as cheesy mashed potatoes or roasted great beast helps bring in hungry crowds looking to fill their bellies with good food at shockingly affordable prices. Few people would recognize this humble chef to be the same Gagaron whom once terrorized the eastern galaxy with armies of demons slaves and marauding aliens for several centuries before his “retirement” several years ago.

“Ah it was a different time, I had a lot of anger and built up resentment to my father whom never seemed to understand my love for cooking. I used to think that became the big bad demon emperor of the galaxy my father would finally love and accept me. I just thought if I could conquer just one more planet that he would acknowledge me. But it was never enough and I had to learn that you can’t expect others to give you happiness, happiness is something you give to yourself.” Spoke Gagaron as he reflected on his past.

“It was hard lesson to learn. Something I wish I had learned sooner in my life. I was so used to fighting I just didn’t know any better until the Hero of Planetgeist entered my fortress palace. I thought here was another would be hero I had to fight but instead of coming at me with a sword or a gun, he laid down his arms and said he just wanted talk. It was so unexpected that I allowed and with that talk I realized my anger and rage stemmed from a lack of parental love and the hero helped me cope though it. Made me realize that I didn’t have to be whom my father expected me to be and that is okay. So, I remade my here on Manta Carlos and opened my own restaurant just as I wanted to do. Honestly, opening the Gluttons Hovel have been the best years of my life. I am still thankful to the Hero of Planetgeist to this day and I hope my story can help other troubled individual realize that they don’t have to live in the shadow of parents. That true happiness, comes from the self and helping others, not subjugating them.”

Before concluding the interview, we asked Gagaron if he really did destroy 10,000 worlds. His response that he said it was closer to 9,823 but everyone seemed to rounded up to make him sound more ominous. He also told us that he plans on changing his last name “the Destroyer of 10000 Worlds” to “Smith” to try to distance himself from his past and move forward to be one of Manta Carlos’ prominent chefs and vocal supporter for the island’s troubled demonic population.

Aurora along the Beachfront

Story:
The past couple of days had local residents dazzled and concerned by local beaches experiencing glowing ocean waves during the night that come in rainbow of glowing reds, greens, and blues. Dubbed the “Aurora of the Sea”, residents have been lining up the beaches at night to observe this spectacular phenomenon but authorities caution people swimming in the water and have already been closing several beaches for safety reasons.

While experts are debating if this is natural occurrence bioluminescent algae or improper disposal of magical reagents into the sea, both have been known cause the water to become potentially toxic. If you wish to observe this nightly spectacle its best to do it from safe distance until scientist and magical experts learn more.
