Tilly watched her pour, and smiled encouragingly as she noticed her overfilling the beaker. ”Yeah, it’s perfect!” She said sweetly. When Katie turned her attention to the butterfly wings, she made good use of all the slight of hand her dad had taught her as a kid, and discreetly dumped a bit of the base back into its botte, so that it was now filled to the correct point.
She should have been more concerned with the butterfly wings. They required a delicate hand, and Katie seemed a bit clumsier than most. She turned her attention back to the pile of wings, already scattered all over. She sighed compulsively, than realized that it probably sounded incredibly passive-aggressive.
”Oh, no, it’s okay, Katie. Don’t psych yourself out, we’re just making a potion.” She smiled reassuringly, brushing it off. She waved her hand, and they swirled on a small gust of wind, which laid them out on the table before her. She sorted a few that had been ruined, and used an old card trick of dad’s to separate them from the good ones without letting Katie see. ”See? They’re all fine. No harm done.” She lied, stuffing the ruined ones into her pocket as she set them gently back into the case.
”Yes, now we just wait.” She said. She sat there for maybe five, ten seconds, staring intently at the vial as it warmed, beginning, very slowly, to change to a faint blue hue. ”Wow, okay, this was dumb of me. Let’s move on to the next ingredient while we wait.” She said, reaching into the suitcase.
”Do you want this potion to be really cool, or marginally safe?” She asked over her shoulder.
