"The power of magic. All I had to do was simply change into the dress."

her admission was a lightly chuckled one as the pair of them walked past the flock of girls. Though when he stated that she was being simply mean she laughed full heartedly before shaking her head.

"I do not think so in the slightest. The girls need a role model to show them that wearing actual clothing, or to even wear something that is appropriate for girls their age will get them farther than wearing simple skimps of cloth."

As they continued to walk Vlad was instantly regretting that everything was far away. Despite being well out of sight of the girls she continued to hold his arm, using him as a crutch. Oh in the moments like this did Vlad feel exactly like a whale.

"I feel like a beached whale."

She grumbled out quietly as she rubbed her belly with one hand and continued to walk. There was not much she could or couldn't do now a days but when you felt tired all the time it was a significant pain in the ass. Though, the moment that she stated that and figured that it was out loud a dark blush crossed her features as she looked up to him.

"Forgive me, I did not mean to say that aloud. Do you perhaps have any suggestions? I do not know the area very well and it would be nice to try the local fair."

While Jacob could understand the kind of lesson Vlad was trying to impress upon the girls, he still felt that maybe she was taking things a bit too far. Not that he was upset with her at all. He just felt that Vlad's intentions needed some finer tuning.

"Oh, I think the girls know to wear clothes at least."

Over time, as the pair walked off school grounds and into the city proper, Jacob began to feel more weight applied to his arm. He knew without looking that it was Vlad leaning on him for support while she carried the baby. His ex-wife did the exact same thing when she was pregnant with his daughter. Right down to pretending that she wasn't feeling uncomfortable. Though that was more because Yumi stubbornly refused to look anything other than straight-backed and proper.

Knowing how uncomfortable Vlad was getting with every step she took, Jacob quickly scoured his brain for a good place nearby for lunch.

"I'll think of something. We'll get you off your feet soon."

The best place that was both nearby and quite good turned out to be a little greek restaurant that was less than a block away. Jacob adjusted Vlad on his arm so she could lean on him better, and he lead the way to it. Once a table was secured, he helped her into a seat.

"Alright. I dunno if you'd call this 'local', but it's a nice place and I figured that you'd need something hearty."

"Healthy is a new term for me. In my world healthy as you put it meant different things. Blood letting, fire for cleaning tools, and drinking weak mead, wine and ale. Ive been in formed that the water is now drinkable. Which is more than fantastic. I do not wish to hurt my unborn child by clinging to the ways of the past."

Taking a moment Vlad read over the menu carefully, each line an examination and weighing of options. Though once the waitress came around she had already decided. Which she promptly gave her order of a tall glass of sweet tea, a sweet pastry desert, and a gyro with lamb. For some unknown reason it sounded good to get a pastry with dinner..

"Forgive me, I have been craving sweets since the beginning of my pregnancy and it has been a hard treat to fulfill in my world.. To be honest If I wanted something sweet I ate apples and fruits.."

Chuckling a bit she rested back as far as she was able with her wings in the way. Closing her eyes for a brief moment a gentle groan escaped her lips. While the walk would of been nothing to her in previous days it was a strain to her.. It would be along moment before she could make it back without having to be carried.

Jacob hoped he never had to experience medieval medical and nutriional sciences. Though he still respected Vlad and where she came from, he would prefer if he was stuck with trained doctors, sanitized instruments, and water that did not run a good chance of killing him. As condescending as it might sound, a part of him hoped that her child was still okay from what little they might have experienced before Vlad came to Manta Carlos.

Gyros sounded liked a good lunch so Jacob ordered himself one as well. He was not at all surprised when Vlad ordered herself a pre-dessert.

"Well, we got almost too many sweets in this world. So go nuts. Though some people would say it would be better to stick to fruits."

He sighed happily on the inside when Vlad mentioned the apples and fruits. From all the flirting she had done earlier, he was almost certain that she was going to say something like, "If I wanted something sweet, I'd eat you. It would have been a smooth move, but he appreciated the lack of flirting for the moment.

"So tell me about yourself, Vlad. What did you do before you started teaching necromancy at the Academy?"

At hearing Jacobs question, Vladahlia frowned a bit. This was not something one said over a light lunch. No.. It was was something that one prayed never to come up or at the very least it was something said before a final goodbye of either one being cut out ones life.. Or.. Ones life being cut from them.

"Before I came to the Academy I was an assassin. A piece in a game of over one hundred members. I was.. I am a powerful caster of dark arcane arts. It is something that services me well in that ideal. But, frankly I am grateful to be here.. Refugee or not. My world was dangerous and not kind. It was a place that I am grateful for leaving. This place gives me a new lease on hope and life."

When Vlad spoke she kept a calm and level tone, it was not something that upset her to say. Nor was it something that she was proud of. She was happy for the people that she helped along the way.. But, it was not something that she wanted to dwell on.. No matter how much of a big part of her life and wealth it was.

Jacob was unsure if he had struck a particularly sensitive nerve with Vlad when a frown etched across her face. To him, the question seemed innocuous enough and not at all that personal. He just wanted to know about her career, and maybe her hobbies, before her presence at the Academy. He shifted nervously in his seat until she started answering.

His eyebrows raised slightly and his eyes widened in surprise as Vlad revealed herself to be a former assassin. While she could understandably take his expression to mean something bad, what Jacob was feeling was not the urge to get up and walk away from the revelation. What he was feeling was surprise at meeting another beautiful woman with a dark past, specifically a past as a killer-for-hire. With Vlad, that count was now at three women he knew personally with similarly dark histories.

After the initial surprise, his expression softened with empathy. Jacob felt uniquely able to give Vlad the understanding and companionship she probably needed after everything she had been through. He reached out and put his hand gently over her's.

"I'm also happy that you're finding a new life here on the island. And don't worry about telling me this, Vlad. You see... My girlfriend, Lenn, also came from a distinctly... dark background too. She too dealt in that particular world, and she's also making a new life for herself here. So... I understand."

Wordlessly Vlad reached out and took Jacobs hands in hers. From the outside looking in it looked like an intimate moment. However, there was something else happening. Something deeper. Something almost dark about it. The moment that Vlads hands were in his she grasped his larger ones Jacob could feel a flow of magic going from her hands to his.

This magic, or energy was positive almost like a wave of healing mixed with feel good vibes. All Vlad wanted in this moment was to feel life force. It eased her emotional anguish that was beginning to rise within her. Taking a deep breath in and then letting it out slowly the woman before him shook her head.

"Jacob. You have no idea how comforting it is to hear such things from you. To know that I am not alone in what was going on in my life. To know that I am now safe and well free to an extent. I may be a powerful caster but, I have always been scared of coming face to face with another caster equally powerful or even more so. In my world so much depended on me it was horrific."

After speaking Vlad pulled her hands from his larger ones, which was just in time because the waitress walked over. The waitress had a large tray of food and began setting things down.

Unafraid of what Vlad might have had in store, Jacob kindly allowed her to take his hand. There was indeed a closeness implied by their gentle hand-touching. It was definitely romantic, perhaps even intimate. But something about their expressions and their postures discouraged the notion that there was anything adulterous happening between them, especially to those whom might have know Jacob as a taken man. Instead, they seemed close in spirit, as confidants and close friends.

One thing he was not expecting, however, was the sensation of energy flowing into or around him. Far from being frightening, the inner warmth was calming and relaxing. He slumped a little in his seat as he felt more at ease with Vlad.

"I'll be there for you whenever I can, Vlad. Maybe we can get together with Lenn too, depending if she'd be willing to open up about that. Still, maybe we could still get together without all the baggage."

Lenn was already hesitant to even bring up her past with him, and he had literally experienced it alongside her. So he was not sure that she would be able to even mention it around other people.

Their food came and it was all set up before them. Jacob thanked their server and started on his light lunch.

"So... Do you have any plans for when the baby arrives?"

“There is much that I have not planned for the birth of my child. I have been told by my assistant that there is a hospital in which I shall be taken to and they have effective healers and midwives that are talented with easing me in this moment of need. For the first birth that I had It was something that was taken place in a pit of hell assisted by succubi with my father standing nearby in case he was needed.”

Looking over her meal she took a good whiff of it, allowing her eyes to close as the aroma tickled her nose and moistened her taste buds. This certainly smelled significantly better than hobgoblin and kobolds did, which would be a more than welcomed change. There was little that Vlad would care to admit and performing a form of cannibalism was not one of them. Times were hard before she got her ring of sustenance and then times were rough after discovering that she was once again with child.

Reaching out with both clawed hands, and in a more than dainty fashion she leaned forward and took a cautious bite of it. Both of the necromancers fox ears flattened down against her head as her eyes drifted shut. This. Was. Delicious. One bite followed another and another. There was a forced amount of proper etiquette in her motions, while there was an underlying urge to simply wolf down her food like a starved animal. Somehow Vlad forced herself to eat like a dignified lady despite having used her hands while eating the open-faced sandwich that was the gyro.

Only once she had finished and drank more fully of her drink, and ensuring that there was not a single crumb surviving on her lips did she speak once again.

“If I may ask Jacob. Do you have plans to sire more children with your current woman?”

As Jacob ate his lunch and listened to Vlad's reply, he could only nod agreeably along with her. He was thankful that she was able to find a place on the island that could assistance Vlad with her birthing, as well as provide any extra care for whatever special needs she no doubt possessed. Somehow he doubted that the core mechanics of giving birth for Vlad was no different from a human woman. But he was also under the impression that there were some other hiccups in the mix that no regular doctor would be able to handle.

Besides, it sounded like any kind of medical help would have been a step-up from giving birth in a pit of hell. Or maybe Jacob was just stereotyping.

He was also glad that Vlad was so obviously pleased with the food, which was also probably an upgrade from what she usually got in... hell. Despite whatever tasteful mannerisms she was trying to use, he could tell that she would have rather just scarfed it all down because of how good it was.

Jacob was just finishing up his own drink when Vlad sprung a question on him. He had a minor choking fit in response.

"Ex-Excuse me!"

He quickly gathered himself up and wiped his mouth with a napkin.

"Sorry. Sorry. Um... No. I--we haven't even thought about having kids yet. I-I don't think we're quite that far along yet."

Blushing slightly, he fixed up his collar.

"We're not even married yet and I only just introduced her to my ex-wife and daughter. Heh. I mean, it's not like we're NOT putting the practice in and stuff. Sorry. That was too much."

Thinking about it, Jacob was pretty sure that Lenn had put even less thought into "siring" children as he had. There was also the question if she was even able to have children. That was an extremely personal question, even from her boyfriend.
