"Well," Wei said, wrapping his tail around his waist so it rested in his lap, twitch as he started to groom it and flick away twigs and dirt. "When I ran the first time, I just wanted to be in charge of organizing events and PR--that's the secretary's job--but while I was secretary I noticed a lot of..."

It laid heavily on his tongue, what he was trying to say. "Prejudices? Against the nonhuman population."

Aliasse discretely froze. Prejudice against non-humans? That in itself didn't bother her. No, it was exactly that. Before when she discovered her powers, she didn't let herself give anyone who had powers the benefit of the doubt, unless they already knew one another, or they were a friend of a friend.

Though she could defend herself, say that that was all because of the way she was reared, it was still no excuse for what she had done for most of her life. "Prejudice is dangerous," she silently said.

It was one of those things that can't help but exist, but is still surprising to hear. "So, you're aiming to become head of the student body in hopes to lessen these prejudices?" she asked casually.

Wei nodded at her question. It made him uncomfortable to think about it. Back home, the population of people that looked like him, people with monkey features, were not welcomed. It was scary and violent sometimes in ways he wasn't sure other people understood. Coming to Manta Carlos where there were people like him, people who weren't quite human and didn't quite have human powers made him happy--

--but knowing that he had done little more than side-stepped the problem rather than move past it was an inevitable thing that brought him down.

"I guess ultimately it might come down to people just not knowing. You know, innocent mistakes and stuff." He flicked an invisible piece of dirt. "But sometimes its purposeful. Especially if you're not.... human-passing?"

Aliasse just nodded in silence. Purposeful discrimination? "What do you mean?" she asked. She knew discrimination stemmed from fear and caution, an outdated defense mechanism that deserved to be retired at this day and age. But people being discriminated are often pushed so harshly that they give in and retaliate, thus refreshing and reinforcing the negative connotations they are already labeled with.

It was a vicious cycle. It's not something that could be ended by being in a higher, more respectable position in the eyes of your peers, but if he did a good enough job, it would at least lessen the negative impressions. It was a needed start.

"Like...." Wei thought about this a little. He wanted to make sure he didn't say the wrong things. Even though this woman wasn't a student and couldn't exactly vote against him, if he wasn't able to explain himself clearly then he didn't have a single hope in the world of explaining it to the people whose votes he actually did want.

"The whole situation with demons," he said. "Even though the school has a sizable demon population, people still treat them poorly... and make harmful assumptions about them."

He played with his tail. "When I was secretary, there was someone who kept calling me a gorilla."

Demons. Agents of hell, according to most. A description she never thought twice of... It was hard not to be biased thinking about them. She kept her thoughts on the subject to herself and conceal any hints. Aliasse hadn't met any demons that weren't up to causing trouble yet, so keeping an open mind was something she could barely do. But whatever.

"Strange how people make fun of anthromorphics, especially since characters like Mickey Mouse are widely enjoyed. So, did you report that to your guidance councilor?"

Wei looked away. He hadn't gone to a guidance counselor specifically, but he'd told a member of faculty who swore to get the issue looked into. He hadn't seen the girl around since then, but he wasn't sure if that was because of disciplinary action or if she'd simply fallen off his radar to a place he couldn't see. Either option was honestly fine.

"I did talk to a staff member," he said. "But I don't know if any action ever got taken against her."

Nodding in approval, she said, "Good. That kind of attitude shouldn't be tolerated." Especially if and when it can be nipped at the bud. "If anyone ever gives you any trouble, don't hesitate to notify me."

Aliasse looked at her watch for a moment. As much as she was enjoying the chat, she couldn't be seen slacking on the job. Not that there was too much going on in the school, but diligence was a value she had to exercise, no matter the job. "I have to get back to work, but I had a nice time chatting, uh, I didn't catch your name."

Wei smiled at the woman's apparent support. It was nice to know that some staff thought that he was worth supporting, even though he didn't know her personally. In fact, maybe it was because he didn't know her personally that it felt that much more heartfelt.

"I'll keep that in mind!" He said, his voice cheery.

The monkey child offered a hand to the woman. "My name's Wei. Wei Hu Sun. Nice ta' meetcha!"
