“A school for fuck-ups..... “Well, you sure came to the right place for your education! ‘Cause I’m pretty sure that succubi aren’t real, and I’m pretty sure magical... demon… summoning books? I’m pretty sure that’s not a thing either.”

Lochlann laughed, a cold, cruel sound that could have resembled a horse's whinny under better circumstances. His laughter died down and it took him another moment of staring at her to understand that she wasn't joking. It was taking a long time to process his thought when he blood was swimming with alcohol.

“Also I’m not stupid.” She shook him around with her tail, enough to make him uncomfortable but not enough to hurt him. “You can’t possibly not know that I’m a high school student, or that you kidnapped me.” Another quick shake, for good measure. “So what were you trying to pull off, huh?”

The shaking made him nauseous and his head was still spinning long after she'd stopped. He sat with his eyes closed for a few minutes, fighting down the sudden cramps in his stomach and the surprising rush of drowsiness before he opened his eyes to look at her.

"This is a test, right?" he slurred. "I didn't kidnap you, I summoned you. From Hell. That's more like a rescue, s'right?"

He shifted slightly, putting both hands on the ground until he was practically on his knees. "And puhlease, we both know you're not in high school. Daemons are like, what, mileniums? or somethin'? I don't do time well. But i know you're old, like milf-old, probs, and that you're dressed like that--" he tilted his head towards her school-girl ensamble--"Because that's what I pictured you wearing. That or a cowgirl outfit."

Oh man of course this seemed like a good idea when he was drinking. But he was so lonely, could he really blame himself for trying?

He could. He'd probably punish himself with more whiskey tomorrow, if he remembered when he woke up. If he woke up. He really wanted a good swim.

"You know what?" he said, pointing at her with a hand that kept moving in an effort to focus. "I have proof. Proof. And I'll show you. Just keep holding onto my neck, okay?"

He looked at her, waiting for her approval.

[ooc]He's posing to turn into a horse, but I wanted to give you a chance to respond with dialogue and such, and warn you in advance that I planned to have him do this. xD Loch can still speak as a horse. Either way, he'll end up turning into a horse the more she drains him of his energy, so if she'll want him to turn back he won't be able to.))[/ooc]

There was a part of Chloe that almost believed him, about the summoning-her-from-hell thing. She had spent a lot of time lately feeling like she was going through a living hell. Holy shit, she thought, it would explain so much if I was actually summoned from hell, wouldn’t it?

“I… I don’t remember getting that old. I remember being old enough to go to high school. And… doing that. Not being a succubus.” Chloe was trying to convince herself as well as him. If any of the stuff he was saying was true, then why couldn’t she remember any of it being true?

He said he had proof. Proof that her entire life was a lie? That she was actually a sex demon he summoned from hell? She had to see this. But she also didn’t want to open herself up to anything threatening. “I’ll see your proof. And I’ll… and I’ll snap your neck if you try anything stupid. So… don’t.” Her voice was shaking with fear and uncertainty, but she still tried to sound threatening.

I… I don’t remember getting that old. I remember being old enough to go to high school. And… doing that. Not being a succubus." She said.

Lochlann shrugged. "Well, I don't know how old y'are. Maybe you really are in high school. I don't know how Daemons age.

“I’ll see your proof. And I’ll… and I’ll snap your neck if you try anything stupid. So… don’t.” Her voice was trembling, but Lochlann was oblivious to her distress.

He snorted. "Little too late for that babes," he said. "Shoulda told me that before I summoned you."

Of course, that sentence made no sense, because she couldn't have told him that before he summoned her, but Lochlann's muddled brain had already moved on.

"I can show you that magic is real." Now Lochlann's voice was hitched with uncertainty. The only reason he was doing this was because he was drunk, because under normal circumstances Lochlann would go to great lengths to keep what he was a secret. Of the two women on Manta Carlos who found out his secret, one of them was dead, and the other one wanted him dead.

But he'd summoned her. She was special, he was certain of it. And it's not like he was an ugly horse--quite the opposite--but it was the betrayal many found disturbing. They trusted him as a person and he was a monster. So he'd show her he was the monster first.

"Just..just watch, okay?" he broke eye contact, rather shyly, and Lochlann took a deep breath. The air around him rippled and seemed to fall away, like someone had been looking through smoke and mirrors and finally cleared the illusion. His shadow flickered and twitched and fell away, and Lochlann tossed his head, his dark mane flashing, and he was a horse.

It was that simple.

Her tail would still be wrapped around his neck and Lochlann was still on his...what did he call them? They weren't knees and elbows anymore. He didn't know the words for his own body. The thought started him. Either way, her tail was still around his neck and their positions hadn't changed much.

"Proof," he said, "Right from the horse's mouth.

He'd waited 17 years to make that pun.

As Chloe expected, Loch entirely failed to prove to her that magic was real.

“You can turn into a horse,” she said, visibly unimpressed. “Like, don’t get me wrong. Shapeshifting is pretty weird. But it’s not magic.” she shrugged. “And I have the ability to drain strength from people by touching them, which is pretty fuckin weird, but that’s not magic. It’s genetic. And we’re both still human.” Chloe was saying these things as though they were widely accepted facts, as though you would need to be an ignorant child to draw any other conclusion about a boy who could turn into a horse. Loch could turn into a talking horse because of his genetics. Obviously. Chloe looked like a demon, walked like a demon, and quacked like a demon, so she was obviously a human with a rare genetic condition. Also obvious to anyone who knew anything.

Did Loch think she was born yesterday? Was he actually insane? Or was he just so drunk and high out of his mind that he believed what he was saying?

Without skipping a beat, she stood up, keeping the tail around his neck and looking down at him. Now, he would be able to see her legs. “…You said this was a school? Does anyone in charge here know what you’re doing?” If Loch was going to be useless to her, maybe someone else could help her get to the bottom of this. Or maybe that thought would scare him into dropping this charade.

You can turn into a horse,” she said, visibly unimpressed. “Like, don’t get me wrong. Shapeshifting is pretty weird. But it’s not magic.”

Lochlann's eyes did not yet bug out of his head. He'd waited a long time to have a girl say that. His tail swooshed from side to side. Then, she continued.

“And I have the ability to drain strength from people by touching them, which is pretty fuckin weird, but that’s not magic. It’s genetic. And we’re both still human."

"But I'm not human," Lochlann said. "I have never been human."

He didn't really like her tone, but he was too drunk to do anything about it except swish his tail again. The draining thing didn't make sense to him--he was tired because he was drinking, right? But what if he wasn't really drunk?! Oh shit! But then he remembered the bottle at his hoof and realized that there was no way he wasn't drunk, so this whole train of thought was totally pointless.

He was checking out her legs, though now with more interest rather than a sexual appetite. Her skirt was really short. He liked that.

"So you were...born human? And just grew horns later?" Loch asked. He tossed his head and clomped up to his feet awkwardly.

[i“…You said this was a school? Does anyone in charge here know what you’re doing?” [/i]

He wasn't sure if she was messing with him or if she really didn't believe him. He thought it was the former, so he snorted and rolled his eyes.

"Psh, yeah. Of course, I go to a magical school so I HAD to get all of this pre-approved by the grand council. You don't just open a portal to hell without permission. That would be stupid."

Of course, it seemed like a good idea because he was drunk, but Lochlann wasn't going to admit that.

“Yes,” Chloe confirmed. “I’ve had my horns for about a year, but before that I was just human.” She shrugged off his comment about never being human – lots of people in her position felt that way, about themselves and about her. It was just semantics. Her parents were both human, so she was human, as far as she was concerned.

But she wasn’t thinking about that. She was thinking about how none of her attempts to make sense of this situation were adding up. She was thinking about how she legitimately tricked Loch by pretending to be a succubus, and that he must legitimately believe in magic. And she was starting to think that Loch’s story might actually be true on some level. Chloe listened, with interest, as Loch mentioned getting approval from the ‘grand council.’

“Did… did the Grand Council also think it was cool for you to do this drunk? By yourself? I mean you look as old as I am, when you aren’t a horse.” She furrowed her eyebrows and stared at the floor. Slowly, her tone had softened – she was less demanding and scared, and more confused. “Why would any of this be okay?”

He did say that this was a magical school for fuckups. So it would make sense if the grand council were a bunch of grand fuckups too. Kind of?

“Yes,” Chloe confirmed. “I’ve had my horns for about a year, but before that I was just human.”

"So did you get....I don't know, bit or something?" Loch was curious, but he didn't know much about how succubus worked. He never heard of were-succubus, either, and then again, he was pretty sure there was supposed to be some kind of sex involved. Maybe that was just wishful thinking though.

Slowly, her tone had softened – she was less demanding and scared, and more confused. “Why would any of this be okay?”

Loch groaned and lowered his head, bringing his hoof near to his face in a horrible facsimile of a face-palm. This was getting to be too much. He had no hope of dealing with the situation in this state. He needed to sober up, but that would take a while.

"Of course they didn't think this was okay--I told you, school for fuck-ups. They wouldn't let someone like me try to open a portal to hell. They wouldn't even let me near these books in the library--I had to arrange to get one--and if I was allowed to do this, I'd be doing it in a classroom somewhere with plenty of adult supervision...which is surprisingly absent." He only slurred half that sentence, which Loch would consider pretty impressive if he even realized he was slurring to begin with.

He had another strong urge to go swimming but he swallowed it down and nudged towards the bottle at his feet.

"Would you mind grabbing that for me?" he asked, "No hands."

Lochlann was cursing to himself, trying to think of what to do in this situation. It had gone so very, very wrong, and he was starting to think he wasn't getting laid tonight at all.

"So if you aren't a real succbus, what where you doing in hell?" he asked. Of course, he couldn't read Latin and he didn't really pay attention in class, but he was pretty sure that's where Daemons lived. Then again, people often thought he was a daemon, but that was incorrect, too.

He squinted at her, still trying to piece together this situation. He was certain this would be just as difficult if he was sober.

Did she get bit? “It’s a genetic thing,” Chloerepeated. “It just sort of… ended up this way. Think, super-puberty.” That was the best way she could describe it.

Chloe listened to Loch attentively, then sighed and shook her head. She had reached a conclusion – this was all getting too elaborate and too stupid, to be some kind of deception. As she dutifully picked up the horse-boy’s demon-summoning tome, she removed her tail from around his neck. She could still change her mind and try to kill him if she had to, she told herself, but he didn’t seem like that much of a threat anymore.

The book looked ominous – bound in beat-up black leather with worn, yellowed pages. Leafing absentmindedly through a few of the pages, she saw indecipherable handwriting and elaborate diagrams of what she imagined to be summoning circles. “Latin,” she muttered to herself. It was her weakest subject in high school so far – she had already begun to regret taking it instead of French or Spanish. But maybe it would finally come in handy for her.

What had she been doing in hell, he asked. She couldn’t decide if this was a good question. “I don’t… think I was in hell,” she admitted with a shrug, “But I sure felt like it sometimes. And it would be kinda funny if my school was actual, literal hell.” A bitter chuckle. “If I did anything evil in a past life to deserve it, I don’t remember it.” But the not-remembering and not-understanding-her-suffering could have been part of the punishment. She couldn’t rule it out. Nor could she rule out being in a dream. She could rule out literally nothing about anything at this point. Except for this:

“…Oh, and uh, just so we’re both clear: I don’t tend to have sex with people I’ve just met. Or anyone else, really. I haven’t tried sex yet and I don’t feel like now’s a great time to start. Sorry.” She wasn’t terribly sorry, but it would probably be safer to let him down softly. Maybe he would cooperate, that way.

"This could be hell," Lochlann admitted. He certainly had reason to be here if it was. "But there are too many pleasant things for me to think it is."

Admittedly, not a lot of pleasant things happened to him, unless they were followed by something horrible, so Lochlann was willing to secede on that fact if pressed, but he didn't want to bring it up and risk talking about his own sins.

“…Oh, and uh, just so we’re both clear: I don’t tend to have sex with people I’ve just met. Or anyone else, really. I haven’t tried sex yet and I don’t feel like now’s a great time to start. Sorry.”

Lochlann tossed his head, the closest thing he had to a shrug. "I sort of guessed after you tried to strangle me, but I had my hopes."

He sighed, looking out the window at the moon and said, more to himself, "I guess I should probably go see Aurora." And then just like that, it was forgotten, because Loch had caught sight of the leg from outside the window and the pull was just so, so strong.

Chloe was looking back into the book. Specifically, at the pages it was open to when she picked it up. The diagram on the page resembled what was drawn on the floor, so it was probably the right page, but beyond that it was useless to her. She didn’t know what she was expecting to see – something that would tell her how to get un-summoned? Nasty thought – as much as it would make sense, she really hoped it didn’t involve pleasuring her summoner.

That comment about an ‘Aurora’ person came just in time; she’d rather not spend too much time thinking about… with a horse, even?

“Who’s Aurora?” Chloe asked, visibly agitated, forcing herself to focus intently on this line of inquiry. “Is she someone who could fix this?”

That couldn’t possibly be comfortable, Chloe thought. For either of us. Chloe breathed in sharply, realizing that she was still thinking about it. Now she was even more agitated. She didn’t want to be thinking about… that, especially not in that much detail, but she couldn’t get it out of her head. The more she tried to suppress the thought, the more forcefully it fought to stand at the forefront of her mind.
