Ah, this was the life. No constant warfare, no constant need for blood.

Alivroth sipped his coffee as he sat on the private balcony attached to his den, looking out over the grounds. It was a wonderful day today. The undead dragon smiled to himself as he took a sip of his coffee, closing his eyes and leaning back.

Nothing could ruin this peace and quiet, absolutely nothing.

Aside from the loud crashing sound from the room behind him. Alivroth frowned, growling lightly. He was just getting relaxed, and now someone was in his den?

The undead dragon stormed into the den, his eyes glowing in his annoyance.

Oh, the new servant. He'd knocked over a vase, the now destroyed vessel in pieces on the floor.

"What. Have you done." Alivroth asked, obviously annoyed at being disturbed.

Nikol was supposed to be dusting off the shelves and anything with enough layers of dust for him to be able to draw on it with his fingers. He was focused on doing his job, really, but he also took his time to get familiar with the rooms and admire whole place. It was pretty quiet and no one had run into him yet, which was great because his face while staring at the decoration of each area was dumb.

He crossed the door to a seemingly empty room he hadn’t been into yet, this is where curiosity got the best of him. Until now, Nikol had been careful not to pick up anything that looked too expensive or fragile; he was afraid to even hit something too hard with the duster. Since he had not messed up anything in the entire day, the incubus was getting a bit more confident, so he only hesitated a few seconds before picking up a figure that had caught his eye. It was a cute little creature, very detailed, Nikol guessed it was probably made of porcelain or some fancy material like that. He didn’t have a keen eye for those things anyway.

Then he saw him. From the corner of his eye Nikol spotted someone sitting in the balcony, that’s when he fucked up. The sight of the other person startled him and made him jump back, knocking over a vase without noticing at first. He heard the sound of something shattering and his eyes darted to the figurine, which was still held firmly in his hands. Once he looked at the floor, he realized what had actually happened.

Shitshitshit” he muttered to himself as his eyes widened. He was doing so well, why did the most cliché thing ever have to ruin it? He prayed that breaking a vase wasn’t enough to get him fired.

By the time he looked up, the one who had startled him was already right in front of him. The incubus took a step back, unconsciously, after setting down what he had picked up right where it belonged.

Uh— I— J-just a little accident, sir” he managed to answer.

Nikol didn’t remember his face, he was pretty sure he hadn’t seen him before; he would remember someone with those looks. The lack of uniform told him that he must be a member of the family, but there was something odd about him in comparison with the others. Maybe it was that imposing aura around him, which only felt stronger with the obviously displeased look on his eyes. Mmmh, no, must be something else, his thoughts echoed.

Let me just… clean this up and I will leave you alone, sir” Nikol said in the clearest voice he could use right now “I’m sorry” he added once he was kneeling on the floor and picking up the broken pieces of the vase. He didn’t mind the cuts from the sharp edges, they would heal quickly anyway.

Alivroth crossed his arms, the ancient dragon clearly very unimpressed with the apology. This was the servant his descendants decided to hire? Not even a day and he was breaking things. He was at least a fairly good looking servant, but other than that, Alivroth as annoyed.

"Hurry. I do not wish to be disturbed further." The elder growled, crossing his arms.

The skeletal dragon in humans skin stood over Nikol as the incubus cleaned, watching as he tidyed the vase he destroyed up. His piercing blue eyes glowing with chilling anger as he watched Nikol attempt to fix his mistake.

At the sound of his words, Nikol finished picking up the shattered porcelain quicker. That only awarded him a nice gash on the palm of his hand; He clicked his tongue, angry about not having a nice pair of fitting gloves yet.

When he got up, the gash was already being sealed by a faint line of white fire, though there were traces of his blood on the remnants of the vase. He almost scratched the taller one’s chin with his horns because he hadn’t noticed him standing right over him, and if he did poke him by accident, he didn’t notice. Nikol managed to throw his head back before headbutting him, the incubus’ knees bent, making him look smaller, when he noticed how tall the dragon was now that he was that close. That along with his fierce eyes sent a strange sensation down Nikol’s spine, not as unpleasant as one would have expected.

Can I do anything else for you?” he asked, his voice softer and less shaky now.

As he stepped back to give him personal space, he tripped on thin air. Luckily for him, he regained balance, ending up in a ridiculous pose, but still balanced. Had he stumbled on something again? His eyes had been focused on the dragon’s, fascinated with the anger in them. Nikol sure was oblivious and clumsy right now.

Alivroth glared at Nikol the entire time, still quite annoyed that this new servant was wasting his own time. The dragon had to give him credit though, he did get cut during the cleanup and didn't bat an eyelash, the cut sealing with a fire.

Alivroth opened his mouth to speak as Nikol stepped back, before Nikol stumbled and fell into an embarrasing pose.

...Seriously?

Alivroth let a grimace of disgust fall over his face, glaring harder at Nikol. This was a disgrace. This servant would definitely need to prove himself after this.

"No. That is all. You are dismissed." He growled, crossing his arms over his chest and waiting.

He sure was only making things worse each second he stayed in the room, but he had a great way to fix it. Was he tempting his luck? Damn right he was, being careful with words had never been his thing. Making him this angry was his fault, right? If there was something else that added to it, he could help too! That was the main reason he had applied for the job. Yeah, those thoughts made perfect sense in Nikol’s head.

Sorry sir but…” he began after straightening himself up, his feet still doubting about leaving as quick as possible or staying “You seem… displeased, I could help with that” the incubus added with some sort of inviting smile, more like a smile caused by the images he was making up in his mind.

Perhaps he hadn’t heard about Nikol yet, not that a brand new punching bag was exciting news when you were a rich dragon anyway. What a shame, from the chills he was sending down his spine with just angry glares Nikol would have loved to serve him from the first day.

I don’t mind being punished if that’s what you wish” the smile stayed on his face. So cliché, he could have made it sound less obvious, but right now he didn’t feel like making the effort to tease and wait for the dragon to get it.

Alivroth's eye was twitching. This servant was being quite insolent. The dragon had a horrible first impression of Nikol, the incubus having shown up and instantaneously and simultaneously breaking both a Vase and Alivroth's peace.

And now they had the audacity to not only remain in his presence once dismissed, but to assume that he could solve Alivroths mood?

It happened before Alivroth regained control of himself, his hand lashing out and striking Nikol across the cheek. He cursed inwardly as he heard the loud crack of his hand connecting to Nikol's head.

He had grown past this, he had to remind himself. He had to remain calm. He may not have bloodlust anymore, but he had to regain a hold on his patience.

"Leave." He growled, obviously incredibly annoyed.

The slap made his head turn violently to the side; he stayed like that for a few seconds as his lips slowly formed a smile. It wasn’t a smile like the one he had faked before, not at all. He had finally managed to get a taste from this huge imposing dragon, and boy was it good, he could still feel the sting and hoped it stayed for a little longer.

The incubus wasn’t satisfied with just this, but insisting when he was clearly telling him to leave might not be the best idea right now. Not because he could get hurt, he’d love that, but because he could get in trouble for annoying his masters like this.

Can I at least know your name, sir?” Nikol asked after he focused his eyes back on the taller one. If he had heard his name during the job interview, he had forgotten, silly him “Then I’ll leave you, for real” he said, at last he was agreeing to do something he was ordered “But you can ring for me any time, sir

He really needed to start working on minding his words around these dragons. While waiting for an answer or more yelling, his thoughts wouldn't stop reminding him of the terrible first impression he was giving.

Alivroth's eye twitched as Nikol smiled, speaking again. When would this end.

"Alivroth." He growled. "Now leave. You are trying my patience."

With that, the elder dragon turned and walked back onto his balcony, nary a single other word leaving his lips. He left Nikol alone in the room, trusting the servant to have sufficient survival instinct to know enough to leave the dragon alone.

Alivroth, such a perfect name, it had a lovely ring to it. He would have loved to stay and ask him a dozen questions, but sadly for him the dragon had already lost any interest on him, if he had any to begin with. Before Nikol could say anything else that would grant him getting fired on his first week, he finally left the room.

The incubus was hoping really, really hard for Alivroth to need his services in the near future. Being from the family of bloodlust dragons, it surprised him how well he had restrained himself. Nikol was very annoying, he knew that very well, and that was why he was surprised about only getting slapped. He had caught his eye, absolutely.

For the rest of the day, he kept doing his job, sort of absent minded, but at least he didn't mess up anything else. The incubus kept one of the shattered pieces of the ruined vase. Small, but a reminder of this strange first encounter. For some unknown reason, the thought of the dragon's eyes glaring at him wouldn't leave his mind. And the voice, oh that voice... How silly of him! He just needed a good night of sleep and for all of that to go away, right? Yeah, not so sure about that. Well, having something interesting in his new life was great, now Nikol had another interest for his free time apart from the ukulele.
