Discovering new weaknesses

A new normal? That was an interesting thought that made Greyson think for a moment. Indeed, Starlight would definitely be the best place to find this "new normal" or at least make it happen. If there were people here who had similar problems to Greyson then maybe he would have a shot. But depression is a horrible thing and even the most happiest thought is easily perverted due to feeling depressed. What if something went horribly wrong... what if his powers went beyond what he knew and he hurt someone. Greyson knew that he was able to take objects with his mind and pull them to pieces... he was able to expand their molecules and see the atoms they were made of. What if he did this on a person... pulled them apart and killed them?

No... he knew that Vinayne meant well with her words but Greyson's powers were far too dangerous. Yes, he conceded that he could control them. But the fact remained that he never asked for them in the first place and they had brought nothing but trouble for him. He had not told Vinayne that he saw his mother's timeline and knew she would contract terminal breast cancer within a matter of years... how the chemotherapy would buy her mere months and nothing more. How could he tell his mother this? Greyson had kept quiet about it because, deep down, he hoped that the vision itself was of only one possible future... that the future could be changed somehow.

It was then that Greyson had decided on his future here at Starlight. Vinayne was right... he would a way of controlling his powers and learn how they would work. He knew that he had years to find a way of controlling them. Then he would use them to prevent what he had seen... to stop his mother's future from coming through.

It was at this time that Greyson knew it was safe to take off his sleep mask. As he did so and opened his eyes, the colours around him seemed a little brighter than last time. And there was Vinayne, sitting a little further away from him. The sickness feeling had gone down a little bit, which certainly helped somewhat. Greyson took a deep breath as he nodded to himself. Now he had a plan, he felt a little more focussed. Once he saved his mother, he would abandon these powers forever. But for now, it was time to think about what he was going to do.

...

...

Greyson had no clue. This was a new situation for him and he didn't know where to start. But perhaps Vinayne might?
"Vin," Greyson said, "If I wanted to learn more about my powers and how they worked then where would the best place to start be?"

Vinnie considered the question, having been watching Grayson silently up until this point. "You would find answers at the school, silly!" To Vinanye this was a matter of common sense. If there were other places where information could be found, the Gem didn't know. Vin had only been here so long herself.

Vin looked over her shoulder at the school, rubbing her jaw as she thought. When she looked at Grayson again, her grin was back full force. "I am sorry, I do not know that I can help with this thing. You see, it is very confusing for me."

Although Vinnie had been a rock, listening to Greyson and his woes, her answer wasn't very helpful at all. Yes of course he could find the answers at the school, that's why he had been carted off here without much thought or argument. But the school was huge and Greyson had yet to meet any of the teachers at all. He had no idea if there was a specialist or a library or anything that could give him answers...

"I am sorry, I do not know that I can help with this thing." Vinnie said, "You see, it is very confusing for me."

"If only you could see what I could see..." Greyson muttered, "Then you'd know confusing."

Greyson rubbed the back of his neck with his hand, trying to think of the next best thing...

"Is there a teacher here who teaches people specifically about their powers? I just need a name Vinnie... just to start off with. Please."

Vinanye felt her chest constrict with anxiety. He was very insistent, and Vin probably hadn't been here much longer than he had. "The school had power teachers, but I am not a part of the school, so I do not know of their names? You could ask the main office?"

And that was really the best advice Vinnie had for the poor boy. The main office would know more about everything he needed. They could steer him in exactly the right direction. With a little digging, he'd be afloat in no time.
