"He had a crappy life," Jude said, before shooting Gabe a glance. "Don't tell him I said that. He has this thing about being pitied. Absolutely hates it. I think he'd cut off his own leg before he accepted charity or anything like that."

Alma, though? That was a happier topic.

"Well, to make a very long story really short, I didn't really... date back in Halcyon. And while I was here I realized I was working myself up over nothing. Something as simple as getting rejected, or having a bad date didn't matter as much as the stuff I'd been through, and someone told me... well, he told me you'd never have a one hundred percent track record with things, but you couldn't let the fear of failure stop you. So I decided not to keep holding myself back. I thought Alma was nice, and she was my type, so I just... asked. Kind of expected to get turned down, but... she said yes, and here we are."

"I won't bring it up with Broen."

It wasn't his place to say anything about Broen when he barely knew the guy. He didn't ever plan on throwing this kind of information back in his face if angered. Fighting was pointless. He'd rather just avoid Broen whenever they crossed paths whenever possible. The two likely wouldn't mesh very well in a friendship capacity, anyway.

When Angelo spoke of Alma, however, the teen raised a brow. It was that simple. Just... decided to be brave enough to ask. To do something to change the current situation. It was admirable. Gabe felt his cheeks flush, thinking back to the night not so long ago where Angelo had asked him out. It was surprising, but... nice. It was nice to be wanted in that way. "You seem to be very lucky in that regard, Angelo. Asking people out and them saying yes." He grinned, baring his teeth a little before humming softly.

He was blushing, which was a nice distraction, and Jude leaned over, pressing a small kiss to Gabe's temple.

"Turns out it works," Jude said. "Everyone's always crushing on everyone else, but no one's ever willing to ask. So I just... asked. I've got a perfect batting record now, so I think it's working out pretty well."

Jude jerked upright at the sight of a familiar face, turning to the man in the doctor's coat who was approaching them. The doctor seemed to recognize him right back, nodding to Jude before turning to Gabe and nodding to him as well.

"You're waiting for Danielle Joiner, correct?"

Damn him.

Gabe could feel his face turn dark red as he felt the press of lips against the side of his head. How could he be so openly affectionate like that? So easily?! The two had been on one date, and even that was arguable considering it was when Angelo had asked him out in the first place. The idea of them kissing had crossed Gabe's mind once or twice before (it was definitely more than twice), but having it almost happen? The teen could melt into a puddle right now in contentment.

Before he could attempt to retaliate, the doctor had approached. He seemed pleasant, despite whatever news they had about Dani. Mustering his voice as best as he could from his huddled position with Angelo's arm over him, he could only respond with a simple "Yes, sir," before huddling back to try and compose himself. He kept his focus on the doctor, but glanced at the blond with a minor glare as if to say, 'I'll get you back for that.'

Despite the somberness of the situation, Jude caught himself smiling ever so slightly.

"Her condition's stable. She woke up a bit, and responded normally. She's exhausted though, so we're going to let her sleep. It's a bit too late for any major revelations, and we'd rather put it off until she's feeling a bit better. We're hoping a body might help things a bit, and they haven't recovered anything yet."

Jude nodded along.

"You two should head home," the doctor said. "Get some sleep. If I was going to pick a time, I'd suggest being around here around eight. That's when her dorm parent's coming, and they're going to be breaking the news then. If you want to be there to provide emotional support, you'll have to talk with them."

Jude nodded, giving the doctor a quick thank you, and then glanced to Gabe.

"I don't have to sleep, but I do want to check in with everyone else and let them know what happened. You should definitely get some sleep though."

Gabe listened intently as the doctor spoke, relief washing over as he gave the good news regarding Dani's condition. She was stable, but needed sleep. That was good. She was going to be okay. Maybe not emotionally tomorrow, but she'd make it through. She was the unstoppable laserkid, after all. The doctor gave them a time to meet tomorrow, and recommended both get some sleep. As he left, he turned to Angelo only to find the blond looking back.

"Sleep... sleep is a good idea. Go handle your thing, Angelo. I'll make it home okay and text you so you know I made it safely." He stood up slowly, slinking out of the arm that had been keeping him comfort this whole night. It was such a caring gesture from Angelo, who had been nothing but supportive since they had met. The kiss to the temple had been so surprising, but the blond had been right. You couldn't be afraid of failure, you just had to suck it up and go for it. Gabe stood up quietly and waited for Angelo to do the same.

With a slightly shaky hand, he would reach up and place it gently over Angelo's lips before standing slightly on his tip-toes to press his lips to the other side of his hand. It wasn't a real kiss, but Gabe was sure that if he had tried it for real, he would either miss or pass out from embarrassment. After a brief moment, he pulled away and took two steps back.

"G-Good night, Angelo." With the weakest of mutters and reddest of faces, the teen quickly turned on his heel and dashed the hell out.
