Lei was really glad to hear that.

Seventeen years of his life, he'd resigned himself to being unlovable and unwanted. His position made him inaccessible. His attitude made him unpalatable. He thought nobody could ever want him close, but now...

Deith was here, and he was perfect, and he... he liked him. He didn't know why. He just knew that he liked him too. Very much so.

"Shut it, I'm not crying. I'm just overwhelmed by pollution —" was all he could utter when he felt gentle lips on his. He clutched Deith's shirt to pull him closer to him, like a soft plea to... stay. And never leave. When he pulled away, he looked into his eyes. He felt his cheeks flush as he looked deep into Deith's beautiful green eyes again.

"You know, I don't get that..." He chuckled as he wiped away his stupid tears. "You're rich. Hot. You have a nice car, and you know how to charm people's socks off. Why you like a short moldy burrito like me is beyond me."

I loved your eyes and hair at first, Lei. You look like my Haku.

There was no way Deith could say that. It was the truth, he was attracted to Lei because of his resemblance to his dead lover, but it wasn't that difficult to like Lei for himself. Deith found it easy to want him more than anything. And seeing that Lei liked him too just reinforced his feelings.

He returned Lei's stare, as his hand went on his head and started stroking his hair softly.

"You're not a short moldy burrito, Lei," he said with a laugh. "And besides, why are you listing down materialistic things? There's always more to that." Another kiss on the forehead. The mood was perfect, even though Lei was crying for a moment, so he wasn't going to stop himself from giving kisses. "I'll admit, I noticed you because your eye and hair color stood out, but from the very beginning I saw you as adorable and, well, you make me want to cherish you. My adorable ocean fighter," he teased, grinning.

Lei listed down material things because they were the great divider. That was always the case, wasn’t it? Rich, charming white men lived completely different lives from poor mountainfolk like him, lives only accessible by other rich, charming white people. He was just dragging Deith down. He didn’t want to embarrass him to his… ‘cohorts’? ‘Colleagues’?

Thinking about this hurt his head. It was easier to listen to Deith’s words and get swept away by his kisses, clutching the shirt on his chest tightly. He shouldn’t be doing this, falling so quickly for a man that lived a completely different life from him. Every rational thought in his head justified against this, but all he could hear was the loud drumming of his heart.

“Don’t… Don’t leave anymore. I want to be with you.” His crying had stopped, but when he looked at him, his eyes were wide and glossy. “Is that all right?”

Please say that’s all right.

Lei was cute, and seeing his teary eyes stirred something inside Deith and he wanted to tease him, but Deith understood his words, and he understood them on a personal level. He knew the agonizing fear of being left by someone dear, and hopelessness when he begs for them to stay. Sadness when they leave anyway. He knew it too well. Actually, that's where the cycle of his life always revolved.

And instead of screaming the words to a cruel lover's back, he instead was receiving them, in a gentle and loving manner. For once, someone wanted him to stay. Even dear sweet Haru of Deith's past didn't tell him such a thing. And hearing it now warmed him up, and he felt so alive as his heartbeat started to race.

He grinned, so wide his lips looked like they'd get ripped.

"It's more than alright," he said, pulling Lei to a tight hug. A long breath escaped him. "You don't know how happy I am to hear that from you."

Just like that, he was already sure.

Lei was his.

There were no more words that needed to be said.

Reassurance came with Deith's words, and he only felt more secure with the way Deith held him. He trusted Deith, held him in the highest esteem, and he hoped... he hoped he could make him happy.

He didn't have much, not in the ways of talents... or looks or money or anything like that, but he could be there as a kiss and a comforting shoulder. He held Deith's hand into his own, and watched as the sun went down into the horizon.
