A happy mink scampered through the forest chasing after all the squirrels. She had already eaten a little farther back so she was mostly just having fun playing around and exploring this new place. She usually hunted in the park, because that's where people hung out, and she had stashes of ketchup and candy all over the place. But the squirrels all seemed to have vanished from there, so she had decided to branch out. She hadn't even intended to head to the forbidden forest, she had just been distracted by all the newness.

Minx was usually a little more alert, but she was used to hunting in a place filled with humans now, so she was kinda filtering out sounds she propably shouldn't have filtered out in this new place. She had also become slightly less feral after all her interactions with a certain Hatter, though she probably would fiercely deny it to anyone who asked. Of course, since she was a liar, anyone who knew her would know what that denial meant.

At the moment, the shapeshifting fae was not very deep into the forbidden area. Though if she had known it was the called the Forbidden Forest, it might have propelled her farther onwards, just so she could cause trouble. She was sniffing around a large tree, debating whether she should chase the squirrel that had gone up it or simply stick close to the ground and find another one. She was only on her first transformation of the day, so she wasn't too tired, but she was also about halfway in. Getting bored with that tree, the mink scampered farther into the woods.

Blackthorn had been sleeping for most of the day as she had worn herself out the past couple days exploring the forest she now called her home. It was not like the lands she had grown up in but it was the best she was going to get here on the island. The only times she ever went into more 'civilized' parts is when she needed something that could not be found in the forest, or when she was bored and needed to cause mischief as well.

She had actually just woken up a few moments ago, pondering going into the city to cause some trouble when something caught her attention. There was a smell on the air and it was one that she was not used to in this forest. Looking about she noticed just a few trees over a small mammal chase a squirrel up a tree, and then a few moments later the thing went off into the woods. Grinning Blackthorn made her way down the tree and slipped into the shadows, reappearing closer to the mink but trying to stay down wind of it.

She calculated a couple jumps like that and she could catch the creature and possibly eat it too! She wasn't too hungry but a snack never hurt. Blackthorn watched silently, slipping into shadows and making small jumps as to not drain her energy too quickly.

One more jump, she thought to herself as she melted into the shadow again, this time collecting the darkness there to her hands and forming pitch black claws, and waited for the perfect time. Sliding out of the shadows she lunged at the minx, grinning from ear to ear.

"MINE!"

Minx was so startled by the screaming girl coming at her with black claws that she forgot to shift back to her humanoid form and just ran for it. All that escaped her mouth was a single squeak, as she darted into the underbrush looking for cover.

Unfortunately for the fae, most of the cover was just snow, which while it did do a good job at hiding her, was very cold and probably not the best place to stay. Besides, the strange girl would probably find her. But still, it was a start. Minx scampered around under the snow until she could find somewhere better to escape from. She did her best to stay low to the ground and keep hidden. This was fairly easy until she discovered the other downside of fleeing through the snow and crashed face first into a tree.

The torrent of squeaks that came out of the snow would've easily given away her location, even if she hadn't popped her head out of a little pile of it right next to a tree. The mink didn't stop running once she got around the tree, though she did sniff the air and look back to make sure she hadn't gotten turned around.

Suddenly, Minx had an idea. She thought she'd passed by a small stream just before she started chasing the squirrel. The water wouldn't hide her as well, but she was a very fast swimmer, and hopefully it would be deep enough to avoid the huntress.

Blackthorn was having the time of her life, usually the animals here were much easier to catch but this one was starting to give the fae quiet a chase! Every time the small creature would dart away she would either have to change course quickly or use her shadow travel to get closer.

In all honesty it would probably have been easier to just travel right next to the thing and catch it, but there was no fun in that. Blackthorn had been idle too long and she really wanted this hunt to last a bit longer!

She was going to get her wish though as the thing darted off into some snow and seemed to be trying to hide itself away. Blackthorn dashed over and started to dig at the snow and sniffing in the air till a large thud, followed by a torrent of squeaks, altered her to the local of her prey. A large grin spread across her face as she quickly went after Minx again.

Hearing the sound of moving water getting closer Blackthorn guessed that the small animal would try to make a break for it to the other side of the river, hoping to out swim the larger fae. Blackthorn did not feel like swimming today so instead she simply slipped into the shadows on this side of the river and appeared on the other side, laying in wait for the thing to cross.

She didn't have to wait too long though, that creature sure could swim it would seem! As soon as it rushed by Blackthorn leaped out of the shadows and dove at it, just barely missing it. It caused the small animal to change direction though and Blackthorn slipped into the shadows again and came out of them right behind the thing, still chasing it.

Soon after a bit more running they came to a large rocky outcrop that signaled a dead end. The small creature was looking around for some sort of escape and Blackthorn slowed down, slowly crawling in with a huge grin showing off her needle like teeth. Growling she got closer and closer to her prey as she waited for the perfect moment to pounce.

Minx was actually distracted enough for a moment that she forgot she was in the middle of running for her life and had actually started to enjoy running around in mink form, although she was getting tired. The dip in the water brought her back, though. Her mink form may be built for swimming, but it was still darn cold, and she was not very happy when she came out soaking wet and that girl was in front of her.

She didn't even get time to dry off before she was scampering away again, which at least had the perk of warming her up a little. But soon the chase was over as they came to a dead end. Minx was not looking forward to losing her at least partially warm fur while she was still so wet, but she would be even less happy to have her head bitten off. She quickly transformed, hugging herself for warmth, and glared at the other fae. Mentally she threw some nearby gravel and snow at her, more out of annoyance than out of any attempt to do damage.

Then she let out a string of frustrated squeaks, so irritated at being cold, wet, hungry, and chased that she forgot to actually speak. Basically, she was swearing at the other girl like a mink. When the squeaks had run out, Minx paused and considered the would-be huntress. She supposed she might've looked like food in her mink form, and the chase had been kind of fun. Perhaps this girl wouldn't be so bad, as long as she didn't attack again. Warily, the fae spoke. "Hunter? Are you another fae? Is there more food somewhere else?" Introductions were too complicated for the biological liar to attempt at the moment and she wasn't going to try to sniff the other girl until she was sure she didn't still need to make a run for it.

Blackthorn was mid air, planning on pouncing on unsuspecting prey, when she was hit by the snow and gravel. Crashing into the ground at the feet of the woman who had appeared where her pray had been the young fae hissed and scampered back a bit, claws at the ready. She continued to growl until the other's word sank in. Another fae? Was it possible? Were there more here then just herself? Letting the claws faded away the hunter slowly made her way forward, sniffing at the air as she did.

Once dhe got close enough Blackthorn noticed a familiar smell, it wasn't exactly the same smell of her home but it was somewhat similar, and therefor rather comforting. Excitedly the young fae started to growl, yip and waver her hands about frantically before realizing she might have to use actual words.

"YES! Hello! Hello hello hello!" she began chanting the word hello over and over again for a few moments, the thrill of finding another fae on the island taking hold of her. Once she finally did calm down though she sat there for a moment and just stared at the other fae while smiling, showing off every needle like tooth in her mouth. She then remembered something else the other had said, something about food?

"Food? Yes! Many!" turning as she spoke Blackthorn stepped into a shadow near by and seemed to melt into it, only to appear a about six feet or so away from the direction they had arrived from. "Follow!"

Without really thinking much more about it or even waiting Blackthorn turned back around and headed off, leading the other fae to her usual hunting grounds.

When the claws faded away and the other fae came close to sniff her, Minx mostly relaxed. No one else on this island seemed to sniff each other, which seemed to her to be a little crazy. They just held each other's hands or bobbed at each other. How would that tell them anything? The older girl returned the greeting and smelt that same odd fae smell like magic and the forest.

She actually sort of understood the growling, in the sense that you understand body language. She made enough squeaking and chittering noises in both forms to get the gist anyways. And just saying "Hello" repeatedly was probably even less expressive than the animal sounds. Minx actually didn't mind not talking for a bit. She just smiled back at the other fae. Navigating speech could be tricky, and she found herself liking this simplicity for a change.

She was a little confused by the shadow magic, having never seen a fae with that ability before. But even in her own world, there were many different types of fae. Her breed was the only one she knew of that had to lie, for example, which was why she didn't expect everyone she met to be lying too. She perked her ears at the idea of food and eagerly followed the girl. She might have travelled a bit far, but Minx's longer legs could easily keep up with the other girl while she walked.

The young fae made sure that she did not lose her new friend in the forest, she made sure her jumps were just short enough to cover some distance and show which way to go and not to loose the taller fae that was following her. A normal person might have stayed behind and properly guided their guest but Blackthorn was young, inexperienced with anyone outside her own people, and rather excited about the prospect of meeting other fae.

This kept going for about five to ten minutes before the young hunter stopped short of a clearing and darted behind some bushes, motioning for the other to follow. It was here she waited patiently, once again gathering the shadows to form her claws, for prey to come by. Thankfully they didn't have to wait too long as off on the other side of the clearing there was some rustling in the bushes. Blackthorn grinned wide, all of her needle like teeth now visible, as she darted into the closest shadow and disappeared.

For anyone watching the bushes on the opposite side moved a bit more, then all hell broke loose. Leave flying everywhere, growling and snarling echoing through the area, and then finally blood being splashed on some leaves. After that everything went deathly quiet.

All of a sudden the young fae hunter reappeared in the shadows next to Minx, a dead rabbit in hand and one hanging from her mouth. Her hands and mouth were covered in blood as she held out the rabbit in her hand to Minx.

Minx didn't mind just following along silently behind the other fae. She felt no need to speak just to hear the sound of her own voice and preferred being active over small talk and idle conversation. She also had no idea about polite conventions, so she didn't see anything wrong with the girl leading from ahead rather than walking beside her. After all, the mink-fae was able to keep up easy enough and she was pretty sure she was being led to food.

When she followed into the bushes, she looked around at first, thinking that like her, the other fae had a secret stash of food hidden behind the shrubbery. But then she noticed that the girl was waiting and forming her claws again, so she stayed quiet and listened.

Although Minx usually hunted in mink form, she was coiled to spring when she heard the sounds coming from the clearing's other side, but blackthorn still beat her to it using the shadows. So she stood up and waited. She didn't have long to wait either, everything happening in a matter of minutes.

Minx yoinked the rabbit the other girl gave her and bit into it hungrily. With her teeth still sunk into the bunny flesh, she gave the fae a nod of awknowledgement, but was too focussed on her meal to really speak. And judging by how she had already acted, Minx thought that this proably wasn't a big deal. Besides, it was kind of nice just eating like this, with a companionable silence.

Blackthorn sat there, eating the rabbit happily in silence. It had been a long time she she had enjoyed a meal with company and longer still since that person had not insisted that they put fire to the food first! It is not like the young hunter would not eat cooked food, it was just that it tasted gross!

Still, she was enjoying the company of another fae, the first one she had ran into since coming to this world. The fact that one was here meant that others could be as well, and maybe even one of her own people could be here! This thought caused her to start purring as she ate, visibly relaxing a bit.

After she was done Blackthorn discarded the remains of the rabbit and sat with her head tilted to the side, waiting to see if the other was done or if she required more. There were lots of smaller animals here that the hunter usually ate and she was sure that she could hunt down something else a bit further in.

This was her temporary home now after all, she had become very comfortable in the forest the short time she had been here.
