Verum's smile grew as Isabelle relaxed. It was relieving for someone to not be disturbed by his admittedly strange request. However, upon being asked how he could do it, his smile weakened.

"I actually wasn't always able to do this," he said. "The story of how I got this power is... kind of complicated and confusing so I'd rather not get into it." In truth, that was only part of the reason why. If Verum started explaining how he got his power, he might have accidentally started going into the events leading up to it, which he wasn't quite ready for yet. "Just know that I was given this power as a sort of... gift, I suppose."

Verum shook his head. "Anyway, actually doing it is easy," he said. "I just think about making fire and it happens. It can be quite handy!"

Isabelle glanced up at Verum as began his vague reply. She didn't mind much that he wouldn't tell her, and simply nodded along with what he said about it being complicated.

Once he said it was a gift, and finished describing how he did it, the bat girl frowned. "I don't have any cool powers like that." She finally gave him his hand back. "A lot of people here look like they can do cool stuff really easy. I wish I could. Who gave you your powers?"

Verum giggled. He supposed that the way he phrased it did make it seem like a person had given him his power.

"It wasn't a person, actually," he said. "It was... I suppose you could call it a... force? No, not a force. A blessing, maybe. Ugh. It truly is difficult to explain. I know someone who could probably explain it better, but we can't see her right now."

Verum shook his head. He thought about how Isabelle said that she didn't have any cool powers.

"What kind of powers do you have?" he asked. "Er, if you have any. I don't mean to assume." The way she phrased it told him that she did, but he wanted to be sure.

Isabelle felt a little disappointed that the person who could explain wasn't around. She wondered if there was a similar way she could get such cool abilities. But she quickly shrugged it off. She didn't want to be pushy about that part, especially considering how the boy answered vaguely about it before.

Instead, she considered his question. She frowned again, this time in a thoughtful manner. She knew she was different from a lot of people, but the question was how much.

"Well... I can fly. I know some people can't do that," she began slowly. She continued to stare off into space for a moment. Then her ears twitched, and she looked up again.

"My ears are different, too. They're a lot bigger, so maybe I can hear better. Some people yell a lot, and it doesn't bother them, but it makes my head hurt and makes it hard to see," she speculated.

As Isabelle started listing off her abilities (some of which she seemed unsure about, oddly enough), Verum noticed the obvious similarities to a certain dragon lady he knew. He smiled to himself.

"Someone I know has similar abilities," he said. "She gets bothered by loud noises, too. I wonder if I could get you a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. They're great for drowning out background noise!" Verum almost started a process of deep thinking before he remembered that he was in someone's presence and pushed the thought away.

"Anyway, do you mind showing me how you fly?" he asked.

Isabelle immediately seemed intrigued by the mention of a lady who might be like her. The girl almost didn't want to acknowledge the other things the boy started to talk about, but she knew that would be rude.

The girl instead began to back up a little, giving herself space to stretch out her wings without potentially hitting the boy in the face.

She shook her head at him as she stepped away. "No thank you," she politely declined his offer. She twisted her ears so they pressed flat against her head, and the sound of the wind and the lake disappeared.

"I can muffle sounds myself if they get too loud!" she unintentionally shouted, before picking her ears back up again. She didn't know what headphones were anyway.

Isabelle continued to back up a small ways further before she stopped. Then, she began to flap her wings furiously. It was a surprising speed for a girl who didn't look very strong! She gave a good, firm jump, and up she went, hovering several feet in the air.

"I do it like this! See?"
