Besom shook their head. "Please, call me Besom. I'm not Nihonjin, nor was I born in Nihon." They paused, considering if those terms were something needing explanation. The fact that they both knew about tsukumogami bode well for Besom's ability to adapt to this world.

"Freedom comes with its faults. This world may be dangerous." I may be dangerous to this world, they thought. "And freedom... is not something I'm acquainted with. I need to know more about these islands before I can make a proper judgement."

Adelaida laughed. Manta Carlos was somehow both the most dangerous place, and the least dangerous place, depending on who you were and whose shoes you stepped on. "Anywhere you go is dangerous. It's all about knowing the risks, you know?"

She rowed the boat back to land, and jumped off. It was time to drag it back home, as her trip had been interrupted by an unexpected guest. "This island's pretty normal except for the people in it. If you don't mind helping me get this thing home, I can take you around for a bit."

"Yes, I suppose that's true." No matter where Besom went, they weren't safe. The only safety they had here were their secrets.

Finally reaching land helped ease Besom's tension. Surrounded by water, alone with a stranger on their boat worried Besom. It was possible for them to hop off of the boat and fly away, but Adelaida showed use of magic earlier. Sudden movements of aggression and defense might lead to a needless confrontation.

Standing up and floating off of the boat to land on sweet ground, Besom nodded. "I don't mind, no." Straps appeared behind their back for them to tuck their broom into. It worried them to not have it right in front of them, but the straps were very tight and it allowed them the use of their hands.

With their hands clasped in front of them, they directed their attention to their new acquaintance. "How would you like me to help, Adelaida?"

"Kindly just help me push it along. It's got wheels down the bottom anyway, so it shouldn't be hard."

Adelaida began towing the boat along, not particularly caring whether Besom helped out or not. To her, it was all just pretext to have some company. As long as the broom-person kept around and kept talking, that was enough payment for her fishing them out of the water.

"So what'd you like to see when we go around? Out here, it's mostly nightlife if you're familiar with it. A little farther in and you get the school full of special children, and the rest of the city just kind of spreads around it."

"Special children...?" Besom muttered quietly to themself, misinterpreting the words. They moved to help Adelaida, though their strength wasn't anything to admire. Their body was more reminiscent to a dancer than a weightlifter.

"I don't know... This place looks modern in appearance. It's not too unfamiliar." Which only made them feel a sense of the uncanny valley. Everything was familiar in a slightly off way. Their eyes scoured the waterfront, pausing when they saw a Ferris wheel in the distance. "I suppose I should know what places are the safest. Shelter, food, and money are not of the greatest concern; although, I would appreciate knowing places I can stay in during the days and nights."

"Oh, that's not an issue. I have a free room if you want to use it while you're looking for a place to crash. Just clean after yourself and don't take too much from my full liquor bar."

Adelaida said her piece nonchalantly as they rolled up to her garage. Her home had been home to more people in the past, and she wasn't one with qualms about letting people stay over. As long as they didn't take too much, she was fine with offering shelter. Usually, it was paid with a good night, but that didn't seem like it was happening here.

She opened the garage door, mostly empty but with a few tools and a workbench for when she had to perform maintenance on the boat. "We just slide it on in, and we can figure out what you want to see. Or do you wanna eat? Drink maybe? There's a bit of both inside if you need it."

"I don't make messes," Besom said with surety. "Nor do I drink. Alcohol has no effect on me. I also don't sleep, but it is useful to have a place to stay when public places are closed."

Adelaida's offer was considered along the way to her home, yet Besom found themself hesitating to enter the garage when it was opened. "I will help lead the boat inside, but I would prefer to not to stay in your house for long." Or on your property in general. "There must be good public places to visit, yes?"

Bit tightly-wound, but that was fine too every now and then. Adelaida tended to get under the skin of people like these. Her, with her loose personality that didn't put any effort in putting in pretenses, against them, who usually put a lot of effort into seeming a certain way.

"There's the park if you're into nature. Amusement parks, clubs, restaurants, this place has just about everything. Never figured out where the garbage went though."

A thought struck her head. This person was a traveler, so maybe she wanted to go back. "If you wanted to go home, maybe we can visit the portal place and see if there's a route there."

Besom perked up at he mention of a portal place. "Is there? This island is nicely advanced if so..." Their voice trailed off as they further considered the idea. "But perhaps I shouldn't. I was sent here because I was unwanted." And too wanted. "If I return, something worse may happen to me... In which case, I would like to visit the portals and know what other routes are available."

If it was possible for there to be a route to their own world, many other worlds must have their own too. Besom hadn't decided if they would like to flee this place as soon as possible, but knowing where they could go was important.

"I should thank you again for your patience with me. You didn't have to help me or offer anything, yet you have." It was sudden, but Besom felt like it was an important feeling to make clear. Adelaida might be hiding evil intentions, but so far she was being helpful.

It wasn't the first time Adelaida got gratitude for being "hospitable" and "charitable." But most of the time, they were moments without basis. She wasn't helping to help, like the few true bleeding hearts on the island, she was helping because it was more interesting than sitting alone.

"You're right, I don't have to. I want to, for what it's worth,"
she said, closing the garage door without locking it. She kept the house unlocked for guests to come in, and she wasn't about to change it up now.

"Alright, regardless of where you think you wanna go, we'll be going into the city anyway so we might as well start walking while you figure out what you wanna see."
