It was day, the sun rays flowing through the windows of the cafeteria. It was the middle of the afternoon, and there weren't many people around. Tables and chairs were assembled in neat rows, most of them empty. There was one though that wasn't. A darkly clothed woman was seated at one of the tables, her feet resting on the wooden surface.
Her eyes could not be seen, as a black blindfold covered them. It was not that she was blind or that her eyes could kill, it just was that her eyes were so sensitive that she easily could burn them at looking at the smallest of natural lights. It wasn't something she wanted. The woman wanted to stay sightful. Of course, calling her a woman was assuming she was human, but it was far from being the case.
You see, this black haired maiden was older than everyone could think, she would soon be four thousand years old. She was a vampire, an elder, though she didn't have a coven of her own. But she was planning on changing that fact soon. Most vampires allready had theirs when they reached their first millenia. But you see, she wasn't an ordinary vampire, she had been a solitary one for a long time, a loner.
The woman was holding a small piece of paper in her hand, but she wasn't looking at it. It merely was a recent newspaper relating the events of the town. She had read it in the confinement of her home, not to long ago. It was boring really, but it told of the mysterious death of some mafioso guy in the middle of a busy street. She had killed him personally, though indirectly.
It wasn't her fault if he was so fat that his artery had allready been so full they would explode at the smallest contact. Anyways, she was here because she wanted to get an encounter with young vampires, offering them the chance of a lifetime, being part of her coven. Certainly some would be decided on accepting her offer of protection and fellowship. Well, as far as it ever got between vampires.
The relationships were allways a bit strained because of the questions and battles of rank between the community. They probably were still too young to try and challenge her now, but in time, it would come and she would have to fight to keep her grasp over the coven she wanted to make. Sighing softly, she placed the newspaper in front of her, continuing to wait for a vampire or two to appear.
She would be able to detect them, as every vampire, or nearly every vampire was able to. A non beating heart, nearly silent steps, the sound of canines gritting on other teeths. You could even hear the sound of very slowly moving thick dead blood in their veins, even if it was hard to make out of all the other sounds.
