"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know some country bumpkin like you is so concerned about the law to preach it." Hal rolled his eyes at Lei. He was being irrational. It was the internet, it existed for a reason and the public demanded movies for free access. "It's not like we're really even stealing them! The guy who uploads the high quality movies probably actually bought the DVD legally and decided to share his treasure with the whole world!!" He said, flailing his hands to the side. He was beginning to get frustrated.

Hal still continued to return the attacks given to him. With an extra kick for every one Lei threw at him. He was making his point and he was doing it the same way Lei did. "I'm not after the money! I don't care! I just want to have a job and do something productive other than school!! And I'm not desperate enough to bite at those other jobs, asshole!"

"That's stealing! Don't you read the beginning warning of DVDs!? They're only meant for home viewing, not entire world viewing!" Oh my god. He was hanging out with a JUVENILE DELINQUENT. "It's a $500,000 fine to pirate movies! Oh my god! That's a Federal offense!"

...All right. It probably wasn't. But it could be.

As he listened to Hall, he furrowed his eyebrows. "But... Why? You mean you want to work?"

"We're in an uncharted island off in the Pacific Ocean; does it look like the law from established countries can reach us?" Hal hissed. He'd admit Lei wasn't wrong. It was illegal if he did that where he came from but he wasn't and Hal was taking advantage of that fact. But it wasn't like his conscience didn't bother him about it.

They both seemed to fall quiet when Hal brought up (sort of) why he wasn't quite happy about loosing his job. Even Lei who had been screaming majority of the time seemed to actually put some thought into it.

"Yeah, so? What if I wanted to? What's it to you?"

They could argue about online piracy later. Lei leaned against the store wall, looking at Hal with an expression that was somehow a cross between worried and judgmental. "It just seems kind of weird?"

"Oh, right. Of course, you have a better idea of how my life should work. Thanks, dad."

Hal didn't even think about his reply. It just spewed out of his mouth without notice just as soon as Lei finished his sentence. Hal never found anything weird in people wanting to feel like they were responsible and reliable by getting proper jobs. It was just how the world works in his perspective.

"Is it so bad that I want to have a proper job? I'm not incompetent! I can do things on my own and you don't have the right to judge me for my life choices!" Hal sounded hypocritical for someone who was judging the other for growing up in the mountains but Hal never really made any consideration to that when it was about his 'feelings'.

Lei frowned, crossing his arms. "I'm not saying you're incompetent, you stupid bite-sized cheeto on life's dirty car seat, I'm just saying it doesn't sound like it's about that? It looks like you're overcompensating for something. I don't know. Like you're trying to fill a hole in your life with jobs."

"You don't know my life!" Hal retorted. The thing he hates most next to people mocking his appearance is them acting like they know him. "I'll be the one to say if I'm overcompensating or not!"

Truth be told, he really was compensating for something. He was a pampered rich kid to everyone in his neighborhood and he was going to prove he wasn't that. He could take care of things himself. But he didn't like saying ll of that out loud. It's not he even needed to say it.

"I just need to have a job. End of story."

"If you're overcompensating, you won't know about it, dicknuts! That's why it's a Psychological problem! Maybe grow half a brain sometime!"

Lei crossed his arms. "Look, whatever, suck a manager's dick for all I care. But do you want me to help you find one? I don't care about jobs, but I guess I owe you one for getting fired. I know this cute guy in College that has a job in a cafe and he can recommend you. If you want."

Hal hated it when people were right.

He would have made a retort for that but when Lei had offered to actually help him find a new job, he stopped himself. Partially from how Lei was somehow calmer. Hal squinted his eyes skeptically, sizing up Lei's offer. He had considered getting a job at in a cafe but that was at the bottom of his list.

"I don't want help finding a job." Hal said coldly, turning to his side. But after he said that, he quickly added, "But because it's your fault I lost this one, I guess that's one way to make it even. So, fine, I'll take you up on that offer."

Hal tried to ignore the 'cute guy in College' comment. He really did.

"Fine!" Lei said angrily. He pulled out his phone from his pocket. "Give me your stupid number so I can give it to the guy so he can get you your stupid interview!"
