"Free food!?" Oddleif exclaimed with high-pitched shock as her eyes grew as wide as saucers, only to pump up her fist in celebration. "Snowballs, this place is awesome!"

The prospect of free meals made Odd blissfully unaware of Samael's deadpanning expression, as well as hand-wave away his other remarks ... simply by being her odd self. Without thinking, she took his hand in hers and seemed to pull him after her in a random direction. "Let's go there! -..." Her voice trailed off meaningfully, however, as she seemed to suddenly remember something - exactly the reason why she had asked him earlier whether he could read. Now, the ashen-haired girl attempted to pull the tall, red-headed man after him in the direction of the Admission Office, which surely made a very comic sight for others to see.

"But first, there's something you need to look over for me, since you can read. At least, they don't give away big stacks of papers to any stranger who come in, right? That would be expensive ..." Oddleif said, not particularly addressing Samael as much as she was simply thinking out loud, her mind working in strange ways. If anything, the way she reacted to things, as well as their order seemed to be based on a very chaotic priority list and short-term attention span ... still, if there is anything one can give Oddleif for, it's her memory - without it, she would hardly ever get anything done.

"You don't have to spend anything on me, unless you insist on giving it away - can't say no to free money!~" The girl added cheekily as she glanced back at her new friend, winking at him. "But I will hold on to you showing me that restaurant and bar later on. I didn't even know there's a city on this island! Can't wait to explore it all someday."

''Yes, it is'', Samael said, nodding his head, before Odd suddenly attempted to pull him one way, then another. Samael, however, was quite hard to pull even for people quite bigger and stronger than Odd so that didn't do much except confuse Samael and throw him off balance.

''No, not everyone, but they are quite famous for it'', Samael said, trying to figure out what was going on with the girl in front of him and what it was exactly. ''Though the welcome-to-the-School-dossier seems to be biggest one of them all...'', he said, suddenly understanding, maybe what was going on. ''Is that what you want me to look over for you?'', looking at Odd he couldn't see any file or paper anywhere on her. ''What did you do with it, it has all the information you need in it'', he asked the girl, then looking up towards the Admission Office and wondering where exactly did the girl manage to leave that much paper between there and here.

''I will gladly show you the rest of the Island someday, but right now we really should find all that stuff, Odd'', he said, slightly worried. That file really did have a bunch of necessary information in it, not being quite that big for nothing.

Despite working hard most of the days of her life, Oddleif couldn't be considered in any way strong - if there was ever a way for her to actually pull Samael, it would only had been if he had been surprised, or allow himself to be dragged ... which was neither the case. Still, that didn't discourage Odd as she simply held onto him the way a child would onto a parent, wishing to show them something she had seen in a store's windows.

"Yep." The girl answered his question casually, a small smile playing on her lips as she jerked her head in the direction of the Admission Office. "I put it in a safe place, but you'll have to come with me if you want to see it." She bluffed, making it seem like she had intended it all along - though in all due honestly, she hardly gave the dossier she had received any kind of thought, until Samael had mentioned it that clicked together with the fragments of words she picked up from the clerk that handed it to her in the first place.

"Well? Are you coming?" She asked with a soft voice and pouty expression, somehow feeling Sam's worry which made her feel a little bit guilty. Was paper really that important in this place? Surely they would also tell her things rather than just force her to read ... which she couldn't do in the first place ...

''Yeah, I'm coming'', the young man said, finally allowing himself to be pulled, then catching his step and fastening it, so it ended up looking as if he was the one pulling Odd who was still holding onto his arm.

''We are going back towards the Admissions Office, right?'', he asked even though he had already guessed, as he didn't really wish to ask about the supposedly safe place the girl had put the file into, considering that he had already developed a vague feeling of it being something along the nearest tree or simply a patch of grass.

''That better still be there, Odd'', he said, frowning a little at how irresponsible it was, risking to lose all that information. He was aware that his new friend really lived up to her name, but still, some stuff really should be handled with care and responsibility they deserved. ''The administration is going to freak if you had lost all of it, and on your first day too!'', he said, cringing at the thought of that just a bit, having had a personal experience with losing something he really shouldn't have while he was still in high school. ''Luckily, cafeteria is this way too. I'll read it for you over lunch'', he said, all the while thinking how without Odd's student ID, which was probably still in the file as well, she could not actually get into the cafeteria.

"Woop!" Oddleif whooped noisily when she realized that the tables had turned as she was the one being pulled after Samael, still clinging to his arm - though it did not look like she minded it. In fact, it appeared that the ashen-haired teen was enjoying herself ... up until she detected the aggravation in her fiery-haired friend. That was when she felt her throat tighten and her heart shrink in her chest, becoming aware of her childish silliness, something she was quick to defend.

"Hey, don't be like that! I told you, it's in a safe place - there's no way anyone would have taken it from there." She bluffed, sounding very sure of herself though deep inside she was becoming anxious - what if it wasn't there anymore? Did people really go around checking bushes for stray papers tossed around ...?

"And besides, it's hardly my fault - they gave me papers with no pictures for me to go by. They can't possibly expect everyone to be able to read ... or at least, they could've asked first!" She whined, giving away her illiteracy without realizing it. "If that thing was really so important, they should've made it look important, not boring!"

Oddleif huffed, up until they grew closer to the Admission Office - from there, she let go of Samael and went forward with a fast stride. "This way!" She pointed out to a bush to the side of the pathway, only to dive into the shrubbery and search between the leaves and roots.

"Found it!" Odd exclaimed happily, pulling herself out of the bush, victoriously holding out the dusty dossier in both her hands while a twig or two got tangled in the snowy strands of her hair. She cheekily grinned at Samael as she waved the thing over her head. "See, I told you it was here - you should trust me more often, sheesh ..." Without further ado, she simply showed the stack of papers in the man's arms. "Now tell me what it says!" She added breathlessly, visibly excited and curious, especially since Samael had pointed out their importance.

As Samael had suspected, Odd's safe place did indeed turn out to be a stray bush near the road leading from the Office. However, he decided not to comment on it as the file had indeed been safe, and soon showed enthusiastically into his hands.

''I'll tell you a secret, Odd'', he said with a slight smile on his face, as he set on looking through the file to make sure that everything really important was there and not have fallen out while being pulled out of the bush. ''Most, if not all important stuff looks boring. That's how you know it is important'', he said, closing the file after having made sure everything the girl needed was there, including the ID she would need to get into cafeteria with him.

''Also'', he continued, closing the file and putting into his messenger bag along with his own papers, ''I'm sorry to say that even here it is common to assume everyone can read. There really is no other way to do administration but through paper'', he said, as he added or classes to himself. Considering that was so, though, the administration should have known Odd couldn't read. Something would certainly need to be done about that before she could start her classes next year. They had the whole summer in front of them though.

''Come on'', he said, then, waving his hand through the air towards the direction of the building they were looking for. ''I'll read everything for you once we get a table at the cafeteria.''

Oddleif let out a small gasp of excitement, more than eager to know this secret Sam had to share with her ... only to visible deflate in disappointment. "Geez, what a lousy secret. How boring ..." She remarked, though nonetheless she would remember this 'secret' - not that she had intended to, but it was simply the way her mind worked. It pretty much recorded anything around her, as long as she was paying attention to it.

Her eyes followed the folder as it was tucked out of sight in Sam's carrier bag, absentmindedly biting her lower lip as she suddenly felt anxious - if everyone was expected to read around here, what happens to her? She didn't have an answer for that ... but maybe Sam knew?

"But I can't read, Sam. If I ever needed somethin' read or written, I just went to someone else about it, though I never really needed that. Not like anyone wrote to me or somethin' ..." Oddleif said, sounding very worried all of a sudden. "What happens to me then? Are they ... are they gonna punish me for it? They won't throw me out, right? I'm special - the lady said so! And I know it too, now ..."

Oddleif felt all the more glum and sullen as she simply kept pace with Sam, not exactly knowing where to go other than it was the cafeteria and that her new friend would show her the way - something to which she did pay attention to, memorizing it in her mind as they went, but she certainly looked less happy than before. The whole issue of her illiteracy bothered her more than she cared to admit.

''They are not going to punish you, Odd'', Samael said hurriedly, realising that he should have paid more attention to his words still, despite already trying to be carefully about the way in which he asked and said most them. ''Or throw you out'', he continued, speaking calmly now yet again as not to alarm the pail-haired girl even more than he already did. ''You will probably have to attend additional classes'', he said, frowning lightly at his words. How much would additional classes help if Odd didn't even know how to read or write, let alone dozens of other things a person should know and be able to do in order to go to high school or college?

''Something to get you caught up to where you should be'', he continued to speak still, realising that there was no point in asking Odd any of that. It would probably only make her even more worried. ''Perhaps start a little lower in terms of what year you should be according to your age...'', he said, realising that he didn't know how old Odd was. ''Or something like that'', he finished before he said something utterly stupid or distressing to the girl. It wasn't like he knew what would happen. He had faith in the school though, and was thus sure it would take care of Odd in some way, and he already decided he would help her with her studies then. For now though, he would read the file for her, after making sure they got some food.

''There is no need to worry about it now'', he said in the end. ''I am sure everything will be alright. Though, they really should have found some other way to give this information to you if the knew you couldn't read...'' And the school definitely knew she couldn't read. They tended to know a lot more about their students then a normal school would need to, Samael imagined.
