As Loriana flinched, Cordelia softened her grip softly, not wanting to injure the girl. She had been hurt enough and the vampire didn't want to do anything more to cause her pain. How could she know that it had only shocked Loriana? Either way, she didn't want to do anything that would somehow cause damage to her.

''No, not the nurse please..."

The twenty-year-old nodded. "I won't get her then," she told softly, honesty in her words. "I'll take care of your wounds and everything." She wasn't a doctor, but she had common sense. Fevers, broken bones, seizures... those weren't good. It didn't take a genius to figure that out.

She could totally handle being a medical doctor for a few days. So what if she didn't have a degree? She had wanted to be a doctor anyway back in college, so why not? It would be practice if she ever got the chance to go back. "But tell me what hurts so I can help." Obviously the fever was doing something, but it looked like the cloth was helping a bit. That was good, that was very good.

Cordelia was surprised when Loriana leaned into her and hid her face, but didn't tell her to do otherwise. She gave the girl a motherly hug; sometimes, hugs were the best medicine. In this case, though, she wasn't sure if it would do much. "It's ok," she whispered to Loriana. "You hide. I won't let anyone hurt you." Catching the disease or whatever it was the girl had wasn't even a slight worry for the vampire. Being immune to disease was one of the perks of being a vampire.

It honestly surprised the young woman, the softening of the grip the vampire had upon her seemed to Loriana as though she was not holding her up anymore even if Cordelia evidently was. She would probably need to be supported if she was to remain upright any longer. It was a little awkward for her all this affection and protection showered upon her as she had never had before.

Plus, she was standing there half naked with only a pair of pants and the remnants of her shirt to protect her from the cold. She would need a hospital gown and some pajama pants if she was to stay there a few days. But it was not something that was bothering her at all at the moment. Her current situation was more important than clothes. Now that Cordelia had said she would not call back the nurse that was one less thing to worry about.

The nurse had had to leave because Loriana was now stabilized and there was a new patient that had arrived, a worst case than she was. A young man who had been attacked by some wild animal.

Gosh she hated hospitals.

"Thank you…" She muttered in Cordelia's shirt.

Acting childish as she was, it was not her usual behaviour. She was in a stressful situation and she had a fever. All in all, she was sick and hurt. Even if she was now fifteen, she was still a child deep down; she just had never had a chance to be. In fact, it was more the start of an infection than a real sickness she had; her body was trying to get rid of it by the means of a fever.

Loriana would probably need a few days of intense antibiotics and treatment for her wounds. She had let them without care for too long and that wasn't good, it never was. After all, she had been flying for a few days and had been attacked the day she had gotten her wings. She had had her wounds for about a week and all this time she had flown towards what she thought would be safety, and indeed it was.

She would be safe here, hadn't Cordelia told her so at least once? Nobody had ever cared to take her in their arms; nobody had ever asked if she was all right or had worried she was bleeding. She was better with Cordelia, a choice that would not remain with her if she was discovered as a runaway. She was sure she would be shipped back there.

"My back hurts…" She said in a small voice. "Everything hurts…"

Well, she meant her back hurt more than everything else, but pain had taken everything else as well. The muscles of her back and wings hurt a lot as well, but that would fade in but a few days, they were simply sore of having worked so hard so soon. Young wings were not meant to be used so intensively so soon after the person got them. Usually, the person would start with small exercises and up the difficulty and length as time passed.

In this case, it had been a matter of life and death and she had had no choice in the matter. It was no wonder that once arrived to the safety of the hospital wing she had collapsed. Loriana had been running on adrenalin for the past few days, had not eaten and was wounded on top of everything else. This certainly was cause for a collapse.

The arms that suddenly encircled her made her stiffen as if she was waiting for a blow of some kind to come, she seemed to both want to flee and get some more warmth Cordelia so freely offered. When it didn't come, she slowly relaxed, still unsure of how to react. She had not been beaten too often by her parents, but it had left a very visible imprint.

"You promise?" She asked still hiding in her arms.

It was a matter of how far Cordelia was willing to go, if she was willing to battle the government to keep her from returning to her parents' home. She wasn't asking for much, just be protected and loved. Was that too much to ask or was anyone ready to give that to her?

(I nearly cried when I wrote that.)

"Thank you…"

Cordelia smiled softly. "You've no need to thank me," she said. She then noticed Loriana's clothing situation, and made a mental note to go get the girl some of her own clothes in a while. They probably weren't the same size, but the woman wasn't going out to buy the teenager clothes. Besides, it was the thought that counted — and larger, baggier clothes were always more comfortable. At least, in her opinion they were.

The vampire didn't really care how Loriana was acting. She understood, and she was there to help her. She had once been a mother, after all, and she always took it upon herself to help kids. Cordelia was used to being around people who were upset and stressed out, people who didn't want to go back to their parents. And her words were true, everything she was saying now was complete honesty. If Loriana didn't want to go back, Cordelia would make sure she didn't go back. No one deserved to be in an environment they didn't want to be in, especially if that environment was harmful to their health.

"My back hurts… Everything hurts…"

"Lay down," she said quietly. "You should rest. Do you want me to go get you some painkillers?" She was going to ask before she did everything, unless of course it turned out being an emergency and she had to do something. But even so, she didn't want to do anything without Loriana's word, since it was her body and she would know what would be best for it. Well, hopefully, but Cordelia was sure Loriana had a better idea than she did.

It was official. After this, she was going to go find a college for vampires and she was going to become a doctor.

Once Loriana stiffened, Cordelia loosened her own grip just a little bit. However, once the winged child had relaxed, she smiled. It hadn't surprised her really that she wasn't used to or didn't like contact. After everything that had happened to her, it was definitely understandable.

"You promise?"

Cordelia nodded her head to confirm it. "I promise. I don't care WHO says you HAVE to go back to your parents — I won't let you go if you don't want to. Government, police officer, president — I don't care who. As long as you want to stay away from them, you'll stay away from them."

The vampire had a lack of respect for authority, that was for sure. She wasn't afraid of those with power, either. She could kill all those people just by biting into the wrong place in their neck. If there was anyone to be afraid of, it was her. She wasn't the most powerful vampire around, but she was more powerful than those puny humans, and if they dared to do anything Loriana didn't like, the twenty-year-old would take the necessary action.

"Also, do you want me to go get you some clothes?" she asked quietly, deciding to mention her thoughts from earlier.

The red haired young woman had not ceased to lean against the older woman for comfort. To her, it was all so new that once she had latched onto the only source of affection she had ever been able to find, she was not about to let go. It was a good thing Cordelia was there or Loriana would probably not have gone anywhere near a hospital. Without proper care she most probably would not have survived long by herself. She had many more issues and most of them were not physical.

If Cordelia was to give Loriana some of her own clothes, it would be all right to her. Plus it would add some comfort later on if the older woman was to disappear for small periods of time. It would be some sort of link between her and who would later become someone of great importance in her life. If Loriana was to insert herself in the vampire's life, there would be serious issues to work with.

In a sense, it was perfect time their encounter had taken place. She needed that sort of person Cordelia was in her life. A person who had no fear of telling the truth and correcting people while being nice and comprehensive at the same time. This was of course outside of the sarcastic and destructive female most people knew Cordelia as. Loriana would probably never need to see that part of her personality.

"I don't want to lie down…" She replied weakly.

She had not said she didn't need to lie down but rather that she didn't want to; she knew she would have to lie down sooner or later, but she wanted to stay with Cordelia. Loriana might have seemed clingy at the moment but the reasons for that have already been stated more than once. It was obvious though that it was only by cheer will power that she was still standing like that.

She was glad Cordelia was going to keep the people that wanted to get her to go back to her parents' home away from her. In her current state she would not have been able to by herself especially since she was underage. Even if Cordelia would have to 'kidnap' her if they tried something, the vampire wasn't exactly under normal jurisdiction.

"I don't feel so good…" She whispered to Cordelia.

It wasn't about stomach uneasiness, but Loriana was feeling faint, just about to pass out. It was not a good feeling as the room seemed to take turns and leap in all directions. Her knees buckled from under her and if the older woman had not been holding her up, she would have fallen to the floor, again. A change of clothes would be a good idea since Loriana had started to shiver in Cordelia's arms, the fever acting up again. The red headed girl snuggled in the warmth the vampire offered, well, what little warm one such as herself could give someone else.

Pain killers would have been good, as well as some antibiotics to battle both the fever and the infection. She just wasn't able to voice her needs that well.

(You could always send her in an apprenticeship with a nurse, Ilfirin for example.)

"I don't want to lie down…"

Cordelia looked at her sternly. "But you need to," she told her. Defiance wasn't something she tolerated, and she was usually harsher on those who didn't listen to her than she would be with Loriana. After promising that she wouldn't let anyone hurt the girl, she couldn't go and do it herself. The vampire was a hypocrite at times, but with something like this, she would stick to her word. "The sooner you lay down, the sooner we can get you out of this hospital."

She didn't really mind that Loriana didn't want to. It was understandable, since kindness after a lot of abuse was something most people would want to stick to. Cordelia knew that she did, even though she usually pushed people away from her to not risk anymore hurt. But taking responsibility for something or someone and wanting to cling to kindness were two different things, so she was moving on passed those thoughts.

"I don't feel so good…"

That wasn't good, at all. Cordelia was ready to take care of the younger female, prepared for anything. A nicer description of 'don't feel so good' would have been nice, but it was alright. The girl was probably too sick or tired to say anything more.

As soon as the girl's knees buckled, the twenty-year-old tightened her grip on her somewhat. The last thing they needed was for her to fall down and bring attention to them. That wouldn't be good... and she would probably get in trouble with one of the nurses for trying to do a job she wasn't hired for.

Noticing her shiver, Cordelia grabbed her jacket that had been hanging on the back of a chair and draped it around the girl. Hopefully it would help for the time being until she could get to her dorm for some other things.

"Sit here and keep that on," the widow instructed, placing Loriana on the bed. She had to move around now, and she couldn't just let the poor dear fall on the floor. She opened a drawer and started searching around inside, accidentally giving herself a small cut in the process. Ignoring it and grabbing some painkillers, medicine, and a glass of water, the woman walked back to Loriana.

She unscrewed the cap to the pain killers and took out two, handing them to the girl as well a the water. Pills for this most likely wasn't the best idea, but hopefully they would work. She then took the antibiotics and held them out for the girl to take as well. "Take those and then lay down, ok?"

Loriana only nodded, her head was spinning a lot, perhaps if she closed her eyes it would stop. Indeed it was not good, her fever had heightened and it was burning her up. She grabbed one of the arms that were around her to steady herself, it's not like Cordelia would feel the added weight. She was a vampire after all. The jacket was welcomed warmth even if she was burning up, to her she felt as if she had been outside in winter.

She clutched the jacket in one hand and the older woman's arm in the other; she wanted to fall as much as Cordelia wanted her to. She indeed didn't want to. Being lifted into the air to be placed on the bed was a disorienting experience in her state. She probably would have toppled over if it hadn't been for Cordelia. Loriana brought the jacket closer to herself, trying to warm herself the best she could.

She was feeling too sick to do much of anything, protesting was now part of that 'being not able to do' category. So she obeyed Cordelia as she told her to sit still and not get the jacket off, not that she would have taken it off anyway. The pills were presented to her and she took the glass in a shaking hand. Not checking if there was blood on the pills from where Cordelia had cut herself, Loriana gulped down the cool water and by means of it, the pills.

She put down the glass before it could escape her grasp and fall to the floor. That would alert the nurses. She took the antibiotics in the same manner, not too aware of what was going on around her. She was sort of in a daze but she obeyed and laid down on the bed, still clutching her jacket.

Cordelia smiled in approval as Loriana did as she said. She watched as she swallowed them, not knowing herself whether she had gotten blood on the things or not. Hopefully she hadn't... it had been a small cut, but if that happened... well... hopefully it wouldn't turn out to be terribly bad. She would feel so extremely guilty if she inadvertently caused that girl anymore pain... it would be like harming her own child. Cordelia may have been violent, but she wasn't so abusive to do a thing like that. Not to her own child, not to any child, and definitely not to Loriana.

"That's a good girl," the vampire said once the winged one had taken all of her medicine. She brushed her hands on her pants and grabbed the cloth again, making sure not to get even a drop of blood on it. She put cold water on it again, wrung it out, and placed it on Loriana's forehead.

Since there was really nothing more the woman could do for the time being, she decided to get Loriana some clothes. The girl had taken her medicine, was on the bed, had a jacket to keep her warm and a cold cloth to try and bring down the fever; she should be fine. Not to mention that she was probably too sick to even notice her.

Cordelia tip-toed out of the room and, once out of it, ran off in super speed toward her dorm room. It was faster that way and she would be back in no time. Upon entering her dorm room, the twenty-year-old ran to her closet and pulled out a few sweat shirts and sweat pants. She didn't bother getting the loose fitting ones, since these would probably be loose enough for the girl.

Once she had gotten enough clothes, she ran back to the hospital wing and back into Loriana's room. She looked at the girl, wondering if she had even noticed she was gone.

Loriana hadn't been noticing much, but when the other woman left, that was something she certainly noticed. Cordelia's presence had been her anchor. It had kept her from breaking down completely.

What if she never came back, why was she leaving, hadn't she obeyed? Had she been bad? The drugs were clouding her mind, but she was lucid enough to see her protector was not there anymore. Panicking, against her better judgement she sat up, the world twirling out of sight for a few seconds as she did.

Looking frantically around for the vampire, she could not find her anywhere. What would happen to her if she was not there? Totally panicking, she heaved herself out of bed, swaying on her feet as she did. The jacket was clutched even tighter in her hands, the last thing she needed was to be left alone.

She took a trembling hesitant step forward, nearly falling over as she did. Slowly crumbling to the ground, she didn't make much sound as she fell to her knees. Her grey eyes were looking at the hospital's open door, she just knew Cordelia had gotten out that way. It never crossed her mind that Cordelia would even return.

"Cordelia..." She cried out softly, tears falling down her face.l

And the scene Cordelia walked in on completely horrified her. Loriana was out of the bed, on the floor, on her knees. The woman stared at her for a moment, leaning against the closed door, shocked so badly that she was still. Had her absence really meant that much?

"Cordelia..."

That one word and those tears falling down her face were the only answer she needed. Guilt overwhelmed her; she should have said something. She should have said that she was just going to get clothes, that she would be right back. Maybe if she had Loriana wouldn't have wanted to climb out of bed and fall over.

Dropping the clothes and falling to the floor right in front of the winged girl in one motion, Cordelia hugged her with one arm and put her other hand on Loriana's. "I'm here, don't worry. I just went to go get you clothes. Don't cry, sweetie," she said to her in an apologetic tone. "I would never leave you; I live by my promises, I've never broken a single one." That was a lie. She had broken a few, but those had been to her husband. They didn't really count, since he was dead, and he had been a jerk anyway.

"I'm sorry. I should have told you what I was doing first." She stopped hugging the girl but didn't let go of her hand. The vampire slowly got to her feet. "Here, I'll help you up. You still need your rest, Loriana."

Still sobbing, loriana had been ready to just fall over and lay there. Cordelia still wasn't back. Then, she saw her coming in a rush, closing the door behind her and leaning against it with a bundle of clothes in her arms. Shuddering in both cold and fright, she nearly jumped back in surprise as the older woman kneeled in front of her. She wasn't ready for the hug that followed, it might have been one armed, but it was still reassuring. Letting go of the jacket that covered her shoulders, Loriana clung to the shirt Cordelia wore.

"I thought you had left me…"She explained in a whimper. "I thought you had abandoned me."

The red haired girl was still crying, wetting the older woman's shirt with her tears because she had buried her face in the crook of her neck. Her own shoulders were shaking from he strength of her cries, it made pain pulse through her back, which only made her whimper and cry harder.

"Like her…" she whispered again.

Indeed she had been able to be placed with someone else for a while when she was twelve, her grand-mother, a gentle old lady by the name of Elizabeth. Unfortunately, she had died only six months after she had been sent to lived with her. Nobody knew what had done it, but it had broken her heart. She, as her twelve years old self had felt that loss as an abandonment. Her grand-mother had been too old, she had had her heart broken as well, but they had had started to reach out to each other by the end of the six moths.

She had then been shipped back to her parents for another few years of torture. She clutched the hand she had been offered hard, still crying her heart out. The situation was explained to her through Cordelia's words, she had only left to get cloths for her, but it still had shaken her more than anything else could have done. As Cordelia got up, she tried to as well because the older woman was asking her to, but she couldn't, she was too tired. The loss of the hug only made her cling to her hand tighter.

"I can't…" She told.

It was obvious, se was still kneeling on the ground, that little escapade had cost her her last supplies of energy.
