Lochlann made a lot of poor decisions when he was drunk, but joining the Horseback Riding Club was not one of them. For starters, he was technically sort of a horse, but he was also a predator, and the horses knew that. The geldings in particular did not like him, but when he didn't attempt to eat them, they grew to tolerate his presence.

Today, Lochlann didn't exactly have it in mind to impress cute girls with his riding skills, though he'd certainly never pass up an opportunity.

Oh no, Lochlann needed to be sure his riding skills were in tip-top condition. His family was coming to visit, and he needed to be able to show them that he was a well-adjusted, modern Water-Horse that could still handle himself in the saddle and did not murder and eat cute girls.

Lochlann came up to the paddock and whistled, intending to ride bare-back on the first horse that showed up.

He was so drunk, he wouldn't notice anything strange even if it walked right up to him.

Lonan was at the far end of the paddock, stuffing his face with grass. He wanted a place where he could pout in horse form without getting weird looks. One more horse at the stables wouldn't attract much attention. He doubted many people came over here anyway.

The grass was like binging on ice cream for him. Ice cream and chicken noodle soup. Not at the same time, of course, but it was familiar comfort food for the pooka.

His ears twitched when a whistle suddenly cut through the air. His head lifted in time with the actual horses to see what the noise was about. There was someone standing at the gate. That meant work for the horses, so they just went back to eating, but Lonan trotted closer.

It was a hot someone at the gate. His grumpy mood was forgotten as he hurried to the other side of the paddock.

When Lonan reached the brunette, a quite nicker vibrated from his throat in greeting. The other guy smelled like booze. He was getting very excited now. He loved messing with drunk people. He stepped a little closer, and stretched his head out to nudge the other boy's shoulder.

"Hey buddy," Lochlann said, his voice soft. He reached his hand out to stroke the hard-to-reach spot on the underside of the horse's chin once the horse reached out to nudge his shoulder.

The smell of whiskey clung to Lochlann's breath like mist over a morning river. Despite his inebriation, his hands were skillfull as he stroked the horse and whispered to it, too oblivious to realize that this wasn't one of the school's normal stallions.

"How would you like to go for a ride with me?" Lochlann said, pulling his head back to look into the horse's eyes. Of course, his own eyes took too long to focus on them, but the important thing was that he was trying. "There's some pretty girls I'd like to meet and you are quite a pretty horse....and you know what they say about like attracting like, right?"

He spoke as if he expected the horse to understand him. Lochlann did. He eyed the horse, watching his posture and his movements, deciding to see if the horse trusted him enough to let Lochlann swing onto his back.

Lonan closed his eyes, and sighed happily as he was pet. That had always been one of the best parts of living with humans. The belly rubs in particular had been outstanding. He lowered his head so it would be easier to reach. Not many people had actually pet him as a horse, and this boy was making him regret that. His hands felt wonderful on the short fur covering his sensitive face.

Lonan realized there was something familiar about his scent now, like a dog smelling a wolf. He didn't think much of it, though; he just dismissed it as the whiskey.

At the mention of going for a ride, his unnatural yellow eyes flashed opened again. If a horse could grin, he would've. He knew what the boy meant, but in the English he was used to, a ride was how children were made. Another playful nicker vibrated from him, and this time it was mixed with a very human-sounding chuckle.

He would love to have this hot guy at least straddling his back.

Pretty girls made it even better.

Lonan tossed his head up and nodded vigorously, sending his long mane flying everywhere. He was too excited to form coherent words, so he neighed and snorted instead. For a second, he actually wondered if his exuberance was going to scare off the drunk. He didn't want that.

He quieted down and turned, presenting his side to the boy. He even lowered his neck to give him something to hold on to.

Fuck yeah!

The horse was super friendly. Lochlann was pleased. He was always more comfortable around horses than people and he'd relaxed immensely once the horse lowered his neck. Lochlann climbed on top of the horse with the ease of an experienced rider and settled onto his back.

He had one hand tangled into the horse's mane while the other hand patted his neck.

"There's a good boy," Lochlann whispered. "So here's what we're going to do my friend...we're going to trot towards that gate, jump over and...ummm....we're going for a ride."

Lochlann was too drunk to tell the horse where they were going. Despite his intoxication, he was steady on Lonan's back and didn't wobble, though he didn't let his fingers out of his mane, either.

Lonan held perfectly still as his rider got situated. He was honestly impressed that the boy seemed to know what he was doing. He probably should've expected that since he was the one who called for a horse, but Lonan had met a lot of clueless drunks who still thought getting on a horse was a good idea, and a yellow-eyed talking horse at that.

He chuckled again when Lochlann tried to give him instructions. "Oh, we're going for a ride alright," he said, and started walking. "Ye best hold on tight."

Without any more warning, he lunged forward into a full on gallop. He raced around the paddock, doing a lap just because he could. Stretching his legs felt nice, and there really wasn't much the guy on his back could do about it. When they reached the gate again, Lonan effortlessly jumped over it. He kept running until they got to the sidewalks and buildings.

In his excitement, he had momentarily forgotten that he wasn't at home. Now he had no idea where he was taking the poor fool that got on him. Instead of rocky cliffs and gorges, he saw stairs and a pool. He didn't think either was very frightening. "Ye wouldn't happen to be particularly afraid of heights, would ye? Or water? Or...landscaping?" he asked as he paced in circles.

Lochlann didn't seem to think anything strange about the fact that the horse had answered him back, even when the horse took off at a break-neck speed that had Lochlann tangling his hands in his mane.

"Woah!" Lochlann said, first as an exclamation of surprise, and then again as an order that went unanswered. "WOAH!"

The ride was especially uncomfortable because Lochlann was drunk, but he squeezed with his hips and managed to get his body positioned so that he wasn't slamming onto Lonan's* back with the fast pace, for both their sakes. Still, Lochlann's thighs were tensed and he realized that he....was he a little bit freaked out?

There'd never been a horse Lochlann couldn't control but here he was, taking Lochlann straight to-—

"Water?" Lochlann asked, eyeing the pool, and then looking down at the horse he was on and squinting. He was too drunk for this, but now lochlann was starting to get the inkling that something was horribly wrong.

"We're not going into the water, " Lochlann said. "We're going to get babes. And I guess maybe take them into the water. But I'm not going in the water, or in the heights, or into the landscaping, and neither are you."

Maybe, though, Lochlann was having fun.

**I know lochlann doesn't know his name, but to avoid pronoun confusion since they're both 'he's' i went with it

When the other boy started complaining about water, Lonan stopped pacing, and turned towards the pool. He personally thought the stairs were just a little more scary to fall on, at least they were hard and could break something, but maybe his rider couldn't swim? That would be hilarious to watch.

He trotted closer to the water, but stopped when Lochlann reminded him of the girls. Lonan was confused. Why did someone who was apparently afraid of water want to take girls in it? Were they girls who also couldn't swim? Would he get to watch a whole pool full of people flailing in the water? That sounded fun.

If Lochlann had stopped there, Lonan would've agreed to go find the hot girls, but he didn't. As he kept talking, Lonan could only think about proving him wrong. He bent his neck to look back at the drunk boy. "I'll go wherever the hell I want to. And ye will go wherever I take ye," he said, his mouth moving in unnatural ways to form the human words.

He snorted for good measure, and then continued forward to the pool. When he got there, he pranced around the edge at a very bouncy trot. "So tell me again why I shouldn't toss ye in here?" he asked.

"Well then fine, but I hope you're going someplace there are babes, and maybe also pizza," Lochlann said, suddenly entranced by the idea of pizza on horseback.

It had not yet come to Lochlann's attention that the horse he was riding was not like other horses. He was considerably slow on the uptake right now.

He eyed the pool and thought about what he really wanted to eat when he was soaking wet, and he had to admit, it wasn't pizza. He sighed again, patting the horse on the neck, though he didn't bother to dismount. That seemed like a trap.

'Because if you try to throw me in, I'm pulling you in with me, and then neither of us can get babes or pizza," Lochlann explained with an exasperated sigh, as though the answer was obvious. "Just picture it....you're galloping down mainstreet and you stop at an intersection at a red light, rear up onto your hind legs, and in my right hand held like a lofty holy grail is a box of freshly baked pizza. The sunsets in the distance. What do you think?"

There was no end to Lonan's confusion. Drunk people acted weird, sure, but he couldn't believe this guy was asking for pizza. A freaking pizza. He wanted him screaming in fear of his impending death, not ordering dinner.

It soon became clear that the water was not scary. Lonan huffed in disappointment, and evened out his gait. He still circled around the pool, but there was no point in hurting his back if it wasn't scaring anyone. At least the undaunted drunk was hot. That made up for the lack of screaming.

His ears swiveled to better listen to the bizarre rambling going on behind him. It was both amusing and baffling.

"What do I think?" he asked slowly. "I think ye need to learn how to hold yer liquor! Do I look like a taxi to ye, do I? The pooka express? I'm not running down mainstreet, and I'm not getting ye a pizza. And there were no babes in that story! What happened to them? There should've been a girl in a short skirt riding on me too."
