"Right." Veronica could think of nothing the girl would want to lie about, yet to her it was blatantly obvious she was. Ah well. She wouldn't want to intrude, would she? She’d just be quiet and see if she could divine the reason for the fallacy on her own.

"To be honest?" A pause, and she shook her head. Why would she tell this to someone she barely knew? Because if I can, I'll have proved it's not a big deal. She answered herself truthfully, rolling her eyes. "I've only really known... One guy. In my life. My parents thought - think - I need protection from everything. They're rich enough to ensure I get it." She sighed, inclining her chin towards a male voice in the distance. "It’s really a shame that ninety percent of the students here are sad excuses for human beings no matter the gender... I would so love to catch up."

She nodded. "My parents are well off, yes." One of the worst things, she decided, was being judged because of your wealth. No, scratch that - your parent's wealth, the wealth she was doing her best to live without, to make her own way. "You're an orphan, then." She half asked, half told, immediately wishing she'd kept her mouth shut. “And that… That was rude.”

Stupidstupidstupidstupidstupid. Stupid. Veronica sighed, holding out a hand for the cane she'd commanded to float upwards to her grasp. "Well. I'm used to... That. You'd think by now I'd have learned not to do it to others... But no." A pause. "So sorry."

She frowned, confused. "Guess what's hard?" Acting socially acceptable? Honestly, she never gave it a whirl more then two or three times a year.
