Aisha sent an announcement to the cheer squad members in advance: Friday would be tryouts, and the tryouts were happening in the gym. Despite the end of the snowfall, it was still impractical to use the fields for any cheering. So the mermaid waited patiently in the gym. She was already in cheerleading attire and stretching out her muscles. Once they decided who was in and out, then they would have a short practice. Some warm-ups, quick exercises, and then touch upon the new routine if there was time. A fairly normal day all things considered.

However, she was well aware that there would be a certain....problem today. Two of the girls that wished to try out for the team were actually rivals. Not friendly rivals either. They were clearly bitter ex-friends that didn't like one another. The idea of this competition amused Aisha, but she realized she would have to intervene if it went too far. That said, she couldn't wait to watch the fireworks. The already-existing members would be expected to show up in uniform. The newbies of course would get to wear whatever was comfortable for them.

As she heard the incoming footsteps, a mischievous smile crossed her face.

"Let's see how today goes!~"

Sprinkles simply came to support Aisha. He disliked the thought of two kids coming just to fight and argue, and if things got serious, he wanted to be there to help stop it. Though he had to admit, he enjoyed the idea of seeing a bit of highschool movie-like drama.

He had on the masculine cheerleading outfit, with short sleeves and tight pants that made him feel comfortable and mobile while he stretched with Aisha. When the sound of footsteps was pointed out to him, Sprinkles tensed ever so slightly and paused his stretches, preparing himself for whatever drama may ensue.

Bel showed up in shorts and a tank top to the cheerleading tryouts. She had signed up knowing she needed to get out and do things, socialize a tad more doing "normal" activities instead of just partying and bar hopping.

As she entered the school gym, Bel saw a very pretty unknown guy with a male cheerleading squad outfit standing beside someone she actually did know - Aisha. The young mermaid she had met while partying the other night and with whom she had had a very fun and interesting evening.

Walking confidently across the gym floor, Bel waved to Aisha and grinned widely as she called out jokingly, "You wouldn't perhaps know of any more single hot jocks I can accidentally dance my way into again?"

Aedes, as punctual as ever, seemed to have been the first to arr- oh wait some other girl happened to beat her here first it seemed. Whatever, just another minor obstacle in the path of her destined greatness. No biggie. At least there was no sign of Dalia around... maybe she chickened out at the last moment. Wouldn't that be a dream?

"Guess who is here~" mused Aedes as she makes her entrance, folding her black umbrella as she steps inside wearing causal attire. She looks to Bel and Sprinkles for a moment, then proceeds to pay them no mind for Aisha was the only person of importance in her mind.

"So are we just going to do this thing or what?"

Dalia wasn't late, but she didn't show up especially early either. She'd taken at least half an hour of convincing herself that she really wanted to do this. The short of it was that she wanted something that wasn't decidedly masculine or violent. More and more it seemed to her that being a tomboy wasn't doing her any favors.

She showed up in her school uniform, her human shape charm firmly on her wrist so that she only had the two arms rather than six. Her hair was braided along the sides and those two braids were tied together into a larger single braid that was much shorted. She had also opted for more feminine clothes: a skirt with a pair of bike shorts underneath, knee socks, and a short sleeved collared shirt. Simple.

She approached slowly, rubbing her arm as she tried to overcome her nervousness. Not that she didn't think she could make the squad, but that she was actually a little worried about what Aedes might do now after their last fight.

"Uh, hey. I'm here. Sorry if I'm late. I didn't want to mess up my uniform."

Cheerleading was good. Cheerleading was fun. But most of all cheerleading was normal. And Eliza, second girlfriend in a what was basically a harem, and the (willing???) property of a being that pretended to be human but most certaintly wasn’t, could use a health dose of normal in her life just now. And what was more normal for a pretty teenage girl than trying out for the cheerleading squad? Accorining to all the teen movies she had watched for research: nothing, that’s what.

To that end she (quite normally) walked to the gym instead off hitching a ride on the school’s WiFi and popping in in a spark of static and code. She picked a (normal!) and, for her, conservative outfit consisting of a dark blue shirt (to match the school colors), and matching shorts.

Upon her arrival in the gym, Eliza smiled and waved to the room in general, but the other hopefuls and the actual cheerleaders seemed wrapped up their own thoughts so she self consciously lowered her hand and tried to play the motion off into an awkward attempt to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear. One particularly impatient girl with white hair and red eyes snapped about getting started.

“Um,” Eliza squeaked. “I’m sure they’ll get us started once everyone arrives?” Her voice sounded to high too her ears. Was she... nervous? Heart-shapped pupils sweapt the room eyeing her competition, and she suddenly felt very frumpy and unprepared. Maybe this was mistake?

There were a decent amount of prospective members today. Her always loyal friend Sprinkles was by her side. As time passed, the other members of the team scrambled in. Cheerleaders of all genders and ages were around, though the little kids quickly broke off with their respective coach. Those populating the gym were all in the upper age range of the school. In particular, it was the varsity students standing behind Aisha.

Bel was the first candidate. Recognizing her from a night of wild clubbing, a wink was offered to her. "Oh, I have plenty of recommendations!~ Buuut later!" The mermaid giggled. Next candidate was the butt-kissing Aedes; her suspicions were that this was a popularity ploy. She could read that based on the disastrous discussion between her and Dalia. Speaking of Dalia, she would show up soon after. "Give it a minute ladies, we still got time before the start." An unexpected arrival came in the form of a nervous-sounding girl Aisha didn't recognize.

Her eyes shot over to the time. "Rooollll call!" The squad members knew that meant lining up in a single file fashion. From there, she took attendance on the existing members. "Hm....good enough! Alright, let's start!" She stepped forward, front and center. "As you all can tell, it's tryout day! We start out with warm-ups. Follow along with us if you don't want to end up cramping!~" A big sharp-toothed grin stretched across her face. "After this will be where the real trials begin."

The merwoman snapped her fingers. "Pom-poms down, space out! Warm-ups everyone!" It would be the usual order for the cheer squad. As for the new people, they would have to follow along with Aisha's verbal orders and movements. It wouldn't be anything too strenuous yet; arm stretches, touching one's toes, squats, jumping jacks, and side lunges were all par for the course.

Sprinkles let out a loud, "Good luck, everyone! Remember to relax and have fun!" before moving into place. If he wanted to be anything for the potential new members, it was their support. Even if it meant being sweet and nice to Aedes. If anything, that would make her bad attitude look worse in comparison.

The routine wasn't anything special. It was par for the course, really. Sprinkles might have been bored if he did not consider this a good chance to see if the others could keep up. If anyone was struggling with the instructions, Sprinkles made a mental note to talk to them about it later, if Aisha didn't point it out first.

After Aisha's initial greeting, Bel stood somewhat near to her until the tryouts started. Glancing a few times at Sprinkles, Bel nodded at him, and then returned her attention to the group and watched as the other girls arrived.

Hearing Aedes, Bel looked her over quietly and just rolled her eyes at the attitude that emanated off her in waves. Then she saw Dalia come in, a girl she only knew by reputation, and just moments behind her, another girl, who seemed rather anxious about being here.

Moving to where the group of newcomers was when the tryouts started, Bel came to stand by the girl who was the last to arrive, the slightly anxious one with the heat-shaped pupils. Giving her a nod, Bel greeted her with a "hi" and then proceded to pay attention to Aisha and her commands.

Following with ease the stretches, jumping jacks, squats, and all the rest of the warm-up. The workout was actually very similar to what Bel was used to doing with the druids as part of her daily exercise routine, and what she almost always did before she went for a long swim.

Eliza was greatful for the quick ‘hi’ she got, and flashed the girl her best smile as a thank you. But before she could do any more than that, Aisha called the group to order.

She found herself standing next to the same girl, and once the warm up began Eliza realized she may be in a bit of trouble. There as nothing hard about the actions perse, but Eliza, who had sprung to life in the physical world little under a year ago, had never actually done any of them. It wasn’t like Ted programmed his perfect waifu to ever need to exercise. The stretches were easy enough, but the jumping-jacks, lunges, and squats took her a few tries to get the right form. Even then she wasn’t what you could call in sync with everyone else. And it really didn’t help that the friendly girl next to her was nailing all this effortlessly.

Eliza was tempted to access some excercise videos online, anyalize them, and then dump that data into her coordination subroutines so she could execute each exercise pefectly. It would only take her a second to do it, but she hesitated. For some reason, that felt like cheating. Everyone else had to get by on their own skill; she should to. So she furrowed her brow, paid attention to what everyone else was doing, and tried to do the same.

And this is just the warm up. She thought to herself. Get with it, Matthews!
