Besom tentatively followed the woman, seating themself a respectable distance away from her without look conspicuous to the eyes of passersby. Now they were ready for whatever story came. Ready to listen carefully to every little detail, from the words to the intonation of Soosei's voice, all to make a clear and rational judgement.
And they did. Until Soosei showed her white flame. Besom jumped out of their seat with their broom clenched against their chest. It didn't matter whether it was safe or not, a flame was a flame, and Besom had no intention of testing what power it held.
Hovering in the air, they stayed like that until the story ended. "What a terrible thing to have happened to you and your family," they replied carefully, releasing the tension in their posture until their legs were straight on the ground.
"It comforts me that the arsonist was defeated. Put down, even. I'm happy to hear that you've been helping humans as well. Seeing how you have worshippers, I suppose it is appropriate to call you a god. Or have you abandoned your work to live here, on the island?"
