As much as Besom hated to admit it, Rhett's words had an effect on them. They lingered in front of a small candle store called Wicked Wicks, grip tightening on their broom. Wearing a turtleneck sweater and tight jeans, they floated inches above the ground, knees bent so their short laced boots wouldn't scratch. Even from the outside, Besom could catch the scent of candles intermixing.

Every once in a while they would move back the shop, looking at other nearby buildings, then return. Mostly so the clerk wouldn't catch them stalking the area. Besom wasn't sure what would be worse, being invited in knowing they couldn't buy anything, or being shooed away for being creepy. This would have been easier if they had a phone, then they could check it once in a while and act like they were waiting for someone. Perhaps even go inside and say they wanted a warm place to walk around in until it was time to leave.

More and more often Soosei found herself going within the city, either as part of a shock therapy to rid herself of a past trauma or because she had business as usual, given she still made and sold sweets regularly. This time however? It was just to look for something to improve her humble residence.

It was then when her nostrils were graced by the scent of candles from a certain store. Never before Soosei has been there, however she always felt tempted to. Patting her money pouch, she gave herself a reassuring nod and was about to step in, until a presence caught the corner of her eyes: Besom.

"Never been to this store either, I presume?", she opened with a question, to gain their attention while approaching them, before she were to introduce herself in a respectful bow, "Soosei is my name, however people may either know me as Gemini or Hakushoku."

Besom nearly flew into the sky when a feminine voice spoke beside them. They missed when their senses were so sharp that being distracted wouldn't make them unaware of a nearby presence.

"Oh! Um." Remembering their manners, they composed themself. They floated down, their feet landing gracefully to the ground so they could give a proper bow. Standing straight, they said, "My name is Besom, a newcomer to this islander," before bowing again. With a quick glance at the store, they looked back at the woman with a smile. "I was wandering around before this lovely shop came into view. I thought it would be impolite to enter if I had no intention on buying, however."

"My, your manners are spotless.", Soosei was pleasantly surprised at Besom's tone and behavior, as well as their concern over reactions from those in the store if they couldn't buy anything. "Indeed, this is a marvelous store. Whenever I pass by a number of fragrances graces me. I can relate with being concerned about getting caught browsing or window shopping...", it was quite rare back in her days as the Deity of Fortune, but she too was told off more than once, "But you are so interested... Hm..."

Soosei mused for a moment, her tail swishing low. "I get it! How about this: we go in together, and since you'll be with me you'll be able to browse at your leisure! And since my good fortune has been up, I'll buy you some as well!", Soosei's tail began to wag vigorously as she had this idea.

Pride swelled in Besom's chest, staying there until Soosei suggested she buy them something. "Thank you, for both the compliment and the offering, but I cannot accept the latter. I have no place to store a candle, nor would I have a good opportunity to use it."

They could see themself holding a candle during the clear night, wandering the city. It was a beautiful thought. It was a thought that wouldn't pay proper respect to someone's gift. Ideally, they would light the candle in a home for its resident to admire.

"No place to store? No residence?", Soosei sounded quite empathic when realizing what Besom meant, "I understand, it's something I too went through once.". Having no home, no place to rest comfortably, that is something the fox girl went through, however she made herself a home, and a name... "But is there something else I can offer? I mean, aside from coming in to browse the store with me. Just name what is it you want and I will do what I can.", clearly she was still eager to please them.

The kindness Soosei was showing confused Besom. Discomforted them, almost. This was how they were supposed to treat people, yet here was a woman trying so hard to please Besom. When has Besom last been treated this way? Servants often did when they wanted to impress Besom, which would then impress their master. Gods and other owners of Besom occasionally tried hard to please them too, not wanting Besom to leave or betray them if they felt wronged.

With upturned, furrowed brows, they kept their smile forced on. "I wouldn't mind entering the store with you if you already intended to buy something for yourself. Then I'll look like a companion and they wouldn't question why I bought nothing. I don't know what else you could offer. I have nothing to need."

"Nothing to need, you say?", Soosei didn't feel any need to poke further into Besom's statement. If they didn't need anything, then it meant they were confident in their autonomy, and that was good enough for her. "Well then, let's check what Wicked Wicks has to offer then.", Soosei would excitedly lead them in.

It was easy to tell what she wanted, as she was quick to fixate on scented candles, specially those of floral fragrance, and didn't need to get too close to smell them and appreciate their scent. But which ones to buy? She was uncertain, thinking of a commitment between therapeutic aroma and plainly relaxing floral ones.

Besom returned to floating as they followed the fox woman into the shop. Besom couldn't feel the magic radiating throughout the shop, only the effect it had on its patrons. A comfortable warmth spread throughout Besom, one so gentle they barely realized it.

"What a beautiful shop. You can feel how much work was put into it." They wandered around, smelling candles here and there and admiring the ones with designs on them. "I used to work with someone who loved candles. I've become skilled in knowing which ones are of good and bad quality. These are excellent."

"Indeed, they put a lot of love in making such a charming shop!", it was hard for Soosei to contain her excitement, she kept her tail wagging to a minimum as she kept on browsing and talking with Besom. "So these scents kind of takes you back, right? One scent here that really takes me back is Cherry Blossom, that delicate sweet aroma cannot be mistaken...", With that, she made her mind of at least one of the candles she would be buying, "Say, are you familiar with therapeutic scents? I'm looking for a good one for mild emotional trauma and that can help animals in general relax."
