It did take them back. Besom wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing, but they were grateful to not have to answer. "I am familiar... Ah, used to be." Another painful reminder of their uselessness without a connection to a master.

Their brows furrowed in mild confusion and determination as they sifted through many almost-forgotten and blurry memories. All they needed was that one memory about emotional trauma or relaxing animals. but it had been so long since Besom worked with anyone who specialized in those subjects.

In the end, they came out with nothing, shaking their head with a deep frown. "It would be better to ask the clerk. They would be familiar with the candles here. For all I know, the energy and magic candles in my world may give completely different results here. I wouldn't want to hurt you like that."

Soosei could recognize those feelings with a small glance. Did she accidentally dig up things Besom wanted to forget? Oh well, they, may need to talk about it at a later, or another day, but for now... "Heh, I should have been one to know myself, shouldn't I? After all, I am a fox.", that statement held a lot of truth, and while she did know well of scents, she knew not of the ones for treatment.

"But I appreciate a lot that you showed concern and tried to remember of it, Besom.", and soon enough she would consult a clerk about it. Thankfully, it didn't take long until she figured the candles she wanted, but even then she continued to browse.

"I used to be much better at this," they admitted with a light chuckle, tinged with only the slightest hint of sadness.

They followed Soosei to the clerk to learn what they had forgotten, then continued to follow Soosei around the store. It felt ridiculous following this stranger around like a lost puppy, but they were quickly realizing that not having anyone to follow made them lost in every sense of the word.

"You mentioned being a fox. Are foxes here naturally knowledgeable of the healing properties in candles, or was that simply a comment on your sense of smell? I'm still learning about the species and dynamics of this world."

"In my earlier days as a wild fox I used my natural knowledge of the wild for finding plants that would help me deal with my needs, so knowing scents was vital back then. Once I started interacting with humans, I borrowed their knowledge via books and conversation. And even though I still live in the forest, I have kind of lost my touch.", Soosei's tail swished slowly and gently.

And for a moment, an amusing thought has overcome her. "Do tell, Besom... Are you a Tsukumogami (or perhaps I should say tool spirit) by any chance? I haven't been in touch with youkais outside the island, so I kind of get this feeling sometimes...", Soosei asked them, continuing to browse the store even after having made her purchase.

Besom failed at holding back a sudden snort at Soosei's question. "That is the second time someone guessed tsukumogami. The first time was the first person I met. Tsukumogami is a good term for what I am. I wouldn't call myself one, however, nor would I call myself a youkai. I'm not Nihonj—er... I'm not Japanese. " It was hard remembering common terminology for this world compared to their own. It was one of the small few details that reminded them they weren't in their home dimension.

"Regardless, I am a spirit."

"Hm, I can see... And your presence isn't like a yokai either, and spirits aren't exactly bound to a specific category so it branches a lot. For one there are yokai that can ascended to deity status, did you know?", Soosei brought up a bit of facts, and then reminded herself of something, "There's this one ink boy at the school, he bought some of my sweets the other day because he was hungry and wanted to sketch me, that he's aspiring to become a God of Art. Ambitious little one..."

Besom's face immediately twisted upon the mention of deities. Disgust wasn't the proper description. Apprehension and fear, perhaps. Their head turned away as they tried to control their expression. It only took a second for it to appear and disappear, hiding behind their usual polite smile as they turned back towards Soosei.

"It's adorable when children set their sights high, isn't it? I always hope they keep those aspirations as they age. It's depressing seeing such lively eyes grey as they better understand the hardships of the world."

Soosei did observe Besom's composure falter somewhat. But let that slip a little longer... "It would pain me greatly to see them forfeit their dreams. He will surely learn it's not easy, but I am confident that he will go beyond the hardships to achieve it.", Soosei answered and soon began leading towards the door.

"So, feel like talking about it? What is troubling you, that is. Assuming you feel like talking to me about it, that is... Or perhaps we could go to have a tea or coffee, since I feel like having some.", she didn't outright mention, mostly because she wasn't sure of which word evoked that one reaction from Besom.

Besom was ready to move on, but started when Soosei pointed out their discomfort. Out of all those Besom had served, they the abilities they gained from those who lorded over trickery, lies, illusions, languages, and emotions. Any of those would have benefited Besom in this moment.

"I have no need to drink or eat. If you would like to go out for a beverage, I would not stop you, but I couldn't allow you to buy me something unnecessary."

Seeing that there was now no (polite) way to further push things off, "As for what's troubling me, it is a complicated subject matter that I would struggle to explain. I'm simply having trouble understanding the differences between this world's culture and mine's."

"I see...", Soosei would simply lead them to walk a little, but really she stopped by a vending machine to buy herself a Soda. If Besom didn't want nor needed any favors, then why press on? "It is just that I grew this way, receiving favors, returning favors.", it wasn't far off, what she meant and what happened. Humans gave her things, on her request or otherwise, and in return she would bring them good fortune.

"It is hard to live in two worlds, or three. Metaphorically, anyways. Literally it might be simpler or complex depending on how and why. But just keep on trying to learn, and who knows, even a new language that once puzzled you beyond your imagination might be much easier to understand.", she had a brief hiccup, "Even to this day I'm learning a thing or another..."
