Emotions: Amused, Uncomfortable

Remi should have been wary of the twins after learning that. She was, but the island had laws and so far things were going well. That was a naive thought, considering how tricky fae could be when it comes to acting sweet and nice and being nasty. Not that all fae were tricksters you needed to be wary of that came from Underhill. She knew some from her time at school who came from many other places. Nevertheless, Remi had difficulty feeling actual fear towards the twins. She preferred to just acknowledge their elemental side. That seemed to be the one most important to them.

Remi's eyes followed Rose as she climbed a nearby tree, then looked back down to Azalea. "Relaxing is fine too." Fighting was Remi's own way of relaxing, but it was clear not everyone here felt that way. "I don't want to pressure or anything, y'know? I just thought having a partner would help out. I can just go to the arena or hunt here later."

Seeing Azalea become flustered after explaining her power made Remi give a quick giggle. She was much better than Remi thought. "It's fine. Really. I mean... lots of people have aura stuff here... It makes me uncomfortable, but at least you told me. Better then telepathy... or mind control. Those powers made Remi feel dizzy with sickness. The thought that at any time, someone could hide their mind control ability to go through her mind terrified her. Even worse if they brought it up later on only to blackmail her.

Rose adjusted in her perch on the lower branches of the tree, draping her arms over a branch just a foot above the one she was sitting on and slouching.

"We do enjoy a good sparring match, so really, it's your call, but if you two remain indecisive for much longer I'm just going to pick something and go with it."
Rose said with a wry smile.

Azalea relaxed visibly upon Remi's accepting response to their empathic abilities.

"I'm glad it doesn't bother you too much. And to pick up anything beyond surface emotions I actually need your permission, so you have nothing to worry about in terms of probing too deep. People who do that without consent are just terrible. I try my best to use my empahtic abilities to help people when I can, and not to cause any harm or invasion of privacy. It's sickening when people with empathic or telepathic abilities abuse them like that."

Emotions: Mildly excited, Comfortable

Remi smiled back. She supposed she was being indecisive. She had a bad habit of letting others make decisions for her while she followed along. That was something she would need to break out of for sure.

"In that case, how about a quick match just for a fun, then we can spend the rest of our time relaxing?" Remi had no plans to spar for hours. Thirty minutes would be her maximum amount of time, but she would prefer something shorter. Something to get her blood pumping and her face flushed with adrenaline. Something that would clear her mind so she could fully appreciate the peace after a battle.

Turning to Azalea, her smile became calmer. "And... I really appreciate it. I at least trust you not to abuse your abilities on me. I guess empathy abilities I don't mind as much. Not as big of a threat to me."

The twins' eyes met for the briefest of moments as meaningful glances were exchanged in wordless communication, after which Azalea stood up.

"Very well, I'll be your opponent, if that's alright. Shall we say, first to get the other off their feet wins?"

Rose grinned madly from her perch as she watched. She wondered if Remi was underestimating Azalea at all due to their admittedly thoroughly non-threatening presence. If so, she'd be in for a surprise.

Azalea, meanwhile, backed up a few meters from Remi, and settled into a comfortable fighting stance.

"No weapons, just magic, let's try not to really hurt each other or the environment overmuch...but that said, don't you dare go easy on me."

Azalea's gentle eyes gained a steely sheen as they caused the snow around them to sublimate, becoming water vapor, which swirled around Azalea like a misty shroud as Azalea's focus narrowed on their sparring partner.

Emotions: Excited, Predatory, Mildly nervous

Remi's feral instincts were bubbling at the surface now. With widened eyes, she gave an excited smile to her opponent. As far as she knew, there was nothing to worry about. Losing did not matter, and in the end, she would come out with a deeper understanding of her two new friends. Better yet, Remi had yet to properly battle with someone outside of her family in her human charm. This was a learning experience she seriously needed.

"All of that sounds good to me." As if Remi had any on her. She was made to be a weapon for a Guardian to use. Her body and its magic were her most important attributes. "And of course. Going easy wouldn't be fun."

Was Azalea using water vapor? Remi knew she would need to be careful then. Just one hit of that would take her out immediately. She wondered if she should have told the twins that heat was one of her major weaknesses, but that would have ruined the meaning of training and made Remi seem like she was trying to make things easier on herself. If things got too rough, she could always call for a timeout.

Remi's first move was to climb up a tree for a height advantage. She knew these woods well and felt empowered from being in her natural habitat. Balancing herself on a thick branch, she hid within the leaves, watching Azalea silently to guess her next move.

Azalea was not, in fact, using water vapor. Well, they were, but only as "ammunition."

Azalea held the swirling aura of mist around them like a blanket, and with an inward flick of the wrists, condensed a measure of the mist into a large ball of water between their hands. They then forced it to compress into a tiny marble-sized mass of highly pressurized liquid water, and flung this toward Remi, aiming in the general direction of the mass of tree branches Remi had vanished into. It would reach the tree in about half a second, and explode in a high-pressure shower in all directions on contact with something sufficiently solid.

Azalea waited in suspense for that half a second, the misty aura swirling around them all the while, ready to condense and leap to their hands on command.

((btw I hope I'm doing this right. The combat thing. Always nervous I'll do something wrong or accidentally break a rule somehow or seem like I'm power playing or something, esp for the first time in a given site.))

Emotions: Focused, Predatory, Anxious

Remi was quick to move out of the way, but not quick enough. She tried to jump onto the nearest tree, but the surprise of the blast made her miss her mark and she tumbled to the ground. Vertigo overwhelmed her for half a second, but Remi was used to this sort of confusion. She had to make her next move as soon as possible.

Knowing that getting too near Azalea was a bad idea, Remi thought fast. She took a broken branch beside her, turned it into jade, then threw it like a spear. Her intention was not to hit Azalea, but to distract her and knock her off balance. Though, Remi wouldn't feel too bad if she got a few scratches here and there.

((No worries! I'm also very new to combat roleplaying, so I'm taking this as a practice thread.))

Azalea reacted with a smooth, fluid motion, causing their misty aura to freeze around the branch-spear as soon as it reached them, moving their right hand in a dismissive wave that sent the ice-encrusted spear to move aside and clatter to the ground harmlessly.

Unfortunately, their misty shroud was notably depleted at this point, so they took a moment to sublimate more snow to replenish it, leaving them somewhat vulnerable for a few seconds.

Rose watched excitedly, quietly lamenting her lack of popcorn.

Remi wondered if she should have felt bad about how easy Azalea managed to toss away her branch, but it did its job as a distraction. That few seconds of vulnerability was all Remi needed. Pushing herself up, Remi lunged at Azalea before giving a sweeping kick to her stomach. Remi thought about turning her leg into stone or aiming for Azalea's leg instead, but she wanted to either distract her, knock her down, or even better, win as soon as possible. As much fun as it would be to play with her prey, this was also a new friend, and she had no intentions of seriously harming her. Knocking the wind out of her would be good enough.

Azalea had made a tactical mistake. Those couple seconds it took to replenish their shroud weren't worth it, especially since a brief loss of focus on keeping their "ammunition" floating around them was enough to cause it all to fall away.

And fall it did. Seeing the blow coming, Azalea put their left foot behind them and shifted their stance so their side was facing Remi. They intended to block the kick, too, but it struck before they could. Remi moved a lot faster than you'd have thought by looking at her. Azalea took the full blow of the kick to their right side, and visibly buckled and staggered a bit. The mist they had been so carefully willing to stay suspended around them dropped like a fine rain to the snowy ground.

Azalea immediately shifted forms, their body melting into a puddle which slithered away like a watery snake and reformed into humanoid form about 10 feet away from Remi. For a fraction of a second, Azalea pondered whether they should heal the bruise from the kick--which remained even after the form changes--but decided against it and instead chose to liquefy a mass of snow and then refreeze it in the shape of a gently curved, blunt-edged sword, holding it out in a guard position and watching, waiting for Remi to make the next move.

((OOC: btw, please tell me at any time if you think I've accidentally been unfair somehow. Also, how would you feel about the fight ultimately ending in a draw? Not for a few more posts I mean, but as the desired ooc end goal. A bit cliche maybe but it would be a good note to begin a friendship on, I think.))
