The eternal rule of the universe was if something can go wrong, something will. The rule as it stood was frequently joked about in the army, and over the years Havoc had become intimately familiar with it. It didn't matter if you spent several hours making sure a piece of equipment was absolutely one hundred percent ready. It would inevitably break down the moment one of your superiors asked for a demonstration.

Lots of people got angry or frustrated when it happened. They complained loudly about their luck. Havoc didn't--Havoc simply accepted it as a fundamental truth of the universe and set about fixing the issue.

So when, midway through printing off both his and Nix's posters, the photocopier proceeded to give up the ghost, Havoc simply shrugged it off, collected the ones that had already printed and headed to ask a member of the faculty.

And when they scratched their head and said they had no idea, Havoc didn't even bat an eye. He simply suggested that he be allowed to use the photocopier in the teacher's lounge and that was what.

Ten minutes later, Havoc was arm deep in photocopies, working his way through both his and Nix's posters. He was methodical about it, and not bored, but it certainly looked bored, his face devoid of expression.

Milk dabbed the sweat from her forehead as she walked to the teachers lounge. She had forgotten how unmotivated that some of the students here were. Luckily Bear was assisting her today. It was amazing how fast some people ran when a Dire Bear was chasing them around the field.

The stoic woman politely greeted the students behind small tables, or handing out pens and cards in the hallway. Some sort of election was going on, but Milk didn't know much about it. She did have a collection of pens and pencils bearing 'vote for so-and-so' or 'Whatshisface for president'. In her opinion, they should just fight for the right to become the leader. That is how it worked in the forest, and in the combat arena.

She nodded to the few teachers milling about in the area outside the lounge, talking about syllabus' and tests, or something. Milk didn't have any of that. She just helped train students to not be weak. It was an interesting job, if albeit a boring one. For every one or two students she had who were able to met her standards, there were five who did not want to put in the effort she required.

Luckily the lounge was almost empty when she entered, she had trouble communicating with some of her more charismatic coworkers. The only person here was a man that she hadn't seen before. He was standing at the photocopier, printing sheet after sheet of...something. Tests maybe?

"Hello." She said, greeting him in her normal monotone voice, moving into the small kitchenette area near him. She began to dig around, looking for something to eat. Her onions were in here...somewhere.

"Are you printing tests? I have heard it is some sort of season for them." She asked, again in her monotone.

Havoc didn't even look up when the teacher's lounge's door opened. People came and went, and Havoc paid it no mind. It wasn't his business, and technically speaking he wasn't even supposed to be in there.

Well, he was allowed, but it was unusual anyway.

It wasn't until a woman--a few inches shorter than him only so muscular it made no difference--spoke to him that Havoc looked up, his attention drawn.

He didn't even get to respond before his brain clued him in that you've seen her before, and after a moment he was able to place her. He didn't know her name, but as a student of the same department Milk taught in, he'd seen her around.

Her and her bear, which made it hard to miss her.

"No," Havoc said simply. "I'm copying posters for the election. You teach physical education, don't you?"

A safe assumption, although he had no idea she was only an assistant teacher. She didn't look older then him--maybe a year or two younger--but Havoc had learned very quickly on the island that physical appearance didn't mean anything on the island. Someone could look ten and be ten thousand, or someone could look forty and be four. There was no way to know without asking, and thankfully Havoc had no issues with just asking.

Milk finally found a sack with her white onions in it. Good. She pulled one out and turned to face Havoc directly, taking a bite from the onion as she nodded.

"Yes. I am Milk. I am a physical education assistant." She said in her monotone, after swallowing her bite. The stoic woman cocked her head to the side at his words however. Posters for the election? Was he doing this for a student of his perhaps? It seemed likely.

"Are you doing that for one of your students?" She asked, taking another bite of her onion.

Another bite. The man in front of her seemed around her age, and very well built. He was standing strangely, Milk could tell he seemed ready to jump at any second, his muscles were tensed. She nodded to herself, approvingly.

"I was informed students had one of these machines for themselves, why can they not copy them themselves."

Havoc had to momentarily double take, refocusing his attention on teh woman he was speaking to rather then the photocopies in front of him. Had she just taken a bite out of an onion the way someone might an apple? A quick check confirmed that she had, and Havoc's eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.

It took a bit more for him to realize the misunderstanding, shaking his head and endeavoring to correct her before it became a real issue.

"I am a student myself," he clarified. "There is a student photocopier, but it's currently broken. Since the elections are time-sensitive, I was given permission to use the faculty one rather then waiting for it to be fixed."

It might not have been fixed the next day, or even the day after that, after all. It wouldn't be fair for him to miss out on a whole day of having his posters up--especially so late in the election--and since he was doing posters for two it had been easy enough to convince the staff to make an exception.

"I don't believe I'm in any of your classes, although I am in your department," Havoc added.

He was a student? Odd. He did not look like one. Appearances could be deceiving, she supposed. If someone like Murphy could be one of her prized students, she supposed someone like this odd fellow could be a student at the academy himself. Oh well.

She nodded at Havocs words, taking another bite of her onion. "I see. You are not in any of my courses." She said, glancing at one of the posters. Was he going to hang these up, or hand them out like she saw other students doing.

"Why do you need so many papers? I was under the impression that people hand out writing utensils." She said, pulling one of the aforementioned utensils out of her pocket.

"How will papers help?" She continued, taking yet another bite of her onion. She didn't understand why people didn't like her treat. They were very tasty, after all.

Havoc regarded the pen she was showing him with a scrutinizing glance. It wasn't a bad idea, he decided. It was far more expensive though, and far more wasteful as well. It was the sort of thing he'd never have thought of, and whoever had thought of it was obviously a bit ahead of the pack.

"Some hand out goods with their name on it. I prefer to hand out fliers, as well as hanging them up in the hallways," Havoc answered, inadvertently answering her own unanswered question. "The posters allow me to clearly explain the points of my platform, rather then just putting my name out there."

That was the issue with so many other campaigning methods. They gave name recognition, but they didn't establish a platform, and that wasn't how Havoc wanted to win.

"I want students to see my platform and vote for it, rather than voting for me because they recognized my name."

It was a simple enough ideal, if a bit naive.

Milk set the pen on the counter, frowning as she listened to Havoc talk. Truly this was a much more complicated event than she had anticipated. He had to build a platform? Odd. She didn't think that construction skills were necessary for an event like this.

"I was not aware that you needed to construct something for this. Will structural stability be one of the points you are judged on? How will the voting work?" She asked, curious as to how building something showed leadership.

"Will you be building yours with your posters? That does not seem very structurally sound." The stoic woman shook her head, disappointed in Havoc. Stone was a much more suitable for a strong platform, it would not bend or break.

Ah, so she was a very... literal person. Havoc stared at her blankly for several moments, trying to puzzle out an explanation.

Thankfully he wasn't the type to be frustrated.

"Platform, in this context, is used to refer to not a literal platform, but instead the core ideas a campaign is founded on. In my case, my platform is founded on ensuring that younger students are represented in some way by the council, and on student safety."

Havoc paused for a moment before turning to retrieve one of his fliers, holding it out for Milk to read.

"The flier says my name, basic information about me so they know how to vote for. It also includes an explanation about the issues I find important, written in a short form so that they're easy to understand. I want the school to provide free self defense classes, and to encourage people to take them."

A subject that, assuming he wasn't completely misinterpreting, Milk would no doubt find admirable.

"My name is James Havoc, by the way," Havoc said, remembering to do introductions at the start of a conversation for once.

Ah. That made far more sense. Why did he not simply just say that in the first place? It would make things much more simple to say that instead. She shook her head, taking the flier and reading it.

It was very well put together, Milk could follow it well enough at least. She nodded as he explained his 'platform' or whatever he had described it as. Her eyes flashed slightly as he spoke about free self defence classes.

She nodded again, in complete agreement with his words. "Yes. I have been mentioning to my students that they should learn to fight. It is a very important skill."

Milk didn't know why more students did not learn to fight. It would make life much simpler for everyone, in her opinion.

She took the hand offered to her, shaking with a powerful Grip. She was careful not to use her full strength, seeing as that would likely turn Havocs hand into the biological equivalent of mashed potato.

"I am Milk. It is nice to meet you James Havoc By The Way."
