Handling the swarm of Rosales children was something Angelo had thought he was, at least in general terms, prepared for. He wasn't. Even though he'd checked a million lists and done his best to keep track of all of them, there were still things that popped up out of nowhere, reminding him that he was woefully unprepared.

Things like bread.

Bread shouldn't have been an issue--it was just bread--but it turned out that making sandwiches for so many people too a lot of bread. He'd made three stacks of sandwiches before being forced to quit the house, heading into town to pick up some more.

It was exhausting, and it had been Angelo's reality for two and a half weeks.

He really, really needed a nap.

It was easy enough to find a bakery--hopefully the kind with a lot of bread--and Angelo let himself in, adjusting his shirt and wishing (not for the first time) that he was on duty, running around in a uniform. Catching crooks had been easy by comparison.

"Morning!" He called, blissfully unaware that it was six AM and he was almost certainly the first customer of the day.

Opening up shop right in the morning had always been a love hate relationship. Love- because it meant that she was able to take everything out, all hot and ready for consumption. That she was able to have a quiet morning- as even though she opened up early, most people didn't care to stop in until around 7:30AM. Bad, because well, it was indeed morning. Late nights and early mornings had become an unspoken routine for Parrasse. It was okay though, as her smile seemed to keep the young lady on her toes.

The short girl jumped a bit as she heard the jingle of her door chimes go off only thirty minutes from opening the store. Thankfully, everything was now freshly baked and set out in the display cases. "Good morning!" Parrasse's glowing smile shone across the store, off the walls and floors to meet the silky haired man. "What can I do for you at this time in the morning sir?"

She could have let him sleep. That would have been nice. Or maybe she had time powers and she could give him like, six hours to himself without actually taking six hours of the day. Lots of ways, and yet a random woman running a bakery wasn't likely to be able to help with any of those.

Just what he'd come there for.

"I need... bread. Lots of bread." Which was probably a stupid thing to say in the middle of a bakery, surrounded by bread, but Angelo was not exactly firing on all cylinders right then.

"I need like... Alright, I don't know how many loaves this is in, but enough bread that fifteen people can eat twice." Which was probably a lot of bread. How was he even going to carry it? He had super strength, to a degree, but that didn't make things not awkward to carry. He should have invested in some kind of bag-of-holding grocery sack.

Not that she could read people, but he looked very worn out. She'd seen him before around town, and she was pretty sure that he was a rather important part of the island. For his request, it seems like he had a lot of people on his mind. "A lot of bread…" She stared at him for a moment, wanting to ask why exactly he needed so much bread. The girl thought for moment as he paused with his sentences. When he gave her a rough estimate of how much bread she'd actually need to give him, all she did was smile. "I'm not sure how much exactly that would be, to the perfect slice amount, but I am sure that I have enough bread for you!" But before she went to go and look at her stocks, she moved to her right and poured him a nice cup of coffee. "It may be a second sir so please sit down and try to enjoy yourself as I see if I can help you." Parrasse gleamed bright glowing grin at him as she also placed cream, sugar and a cookie on a plate for him on the counter. With that she turned around and gladly went to go see how much she had.

First it started with what she already had in the display cases. About 6 loaves of bread, still hot and gently steaming. It seemed like enough, as she had done the math in her head while getting the things prepared for his small snack. It seems though, that he would need a few more just in case someone wanted thirds or fourths. Her bread loaves had 10 pieces in them each, and thankfully they were already precut so he would not have to go through the hassle of that. She grabbed the six loaves by twos in the trays that they were on, placing them up at the counter for her to bag and seal them properly. "Is there any type of bread that you feel like these people would enjoy a bit more?" She asked him with a smile. "Or do you think say… Times two of what you're needing of regular bread would be enough?"

She was so bright. Full of energy and very much the opposite of Angelo right then. He felt dead inside, exhausted beyond belief as he accepted the coffee, watching her go about her work. Did she own the place? That seemed likely. Most of the businesses on Manta Carlos were owned by the locals who worked them, and while she seemed even younger then him, businesses were fairly easy to start on Manta Carlos.

As she asked about bread preferences, Angelo realized he still hadn't started to drink, grabbing the cup and taking a big gulp. Straight black--no milk, no sugar--and that was how he liked it.

"I wouldn't know," Angelo said with a shrug. "They probably have preferences, but I don't know them, and I don't really have time to let them get picky, so... uh, normal is probably the best."

Whatever counted for 'normal' bread.

Which just reminded him of what was normal, and Angelo swung his head around abruptly, peeking to see if he could find any.

"Actually, do you have focaccia?"

"That's okay. It's hard to shop for others." Parrasse smiled to him, a sparkle in her eyes. "But loaves of normal bread is always guaranteed to work- especially when it's all natural ingredients and hand made." She quieted for the last part. She paused as he asked for the bread, thinking. "Yes! It's in the oven." She twirled around and went to the back.

Two loaves of it, the smell of sweet herbs coming off of it. "Want this too?" She placed it down and cut off a piece for him to try. As she waited for him to try it, she ringed up how much it would all cost. "For... twelve loaves of bread, normal flavoured... it's gonna be twenty four dollars." Her bread was only two and a half dollars each, but she lowered the price to only two if someone ordered five or more. "And two focaccia's on the house."

It was hard to shop for others, and didn't he know it. There were so many different preferences that it was hard to keep them all straight. Who had allergies? Who ate, and who straight up didn't eat? Who needed clothes and who needed supplies?

Even if he had a notepad, it'd be too full, too fast.

Angelo let out a wistful sigh at the sheer thought of fresh baked focaccia, and when she emerged from the back he could feel his mouth start to water.

It had been a long, long time.

He took the sample carefully, wary of burning his fingers, and blew on it gently before popping it into his mouth. It wasn't quite the don's family recipe, but it was very good, a million times better than anything he'd find in the stores. He took his time with it, nodding his head when she asked if he'd like it.

"Both, please," he added quickly. "I'm not sure they'll all like it, but they should all at least give it a try."

He wasn't expecting them for free. He was expecting to pay, and he had more than enough money, so the moment she said on the house Angelo frowned, his eyebrows knitting together.

"That's very kind of you, but I can definitely pay - two loaves is a lot, especially for a specialty bread..." It wasn't like he was repeat customer either.

She waited for him, her hands clasped together. Would he like it? Most people didn't even ask for it, so she hoped that I went up to his standards. When he took his time eating it, she sighed happily, knowing that it was at least edible. When he insisted that he pay, she only shook her head. "It's alright sir- I can see that you're a very caring man so, is like to give you a little break." She winked. "Plus, you're not too bad on the eyes if I can say so."

How was her business even managing if she just gave stuff away? Or was she one of those people who were just independently wealthy and running businesses as a hobby? There seemed to be an awful lot of those on the islan-

Oh.

Angelo went pink at the realization that it was free because she was hitting on him, and almost denied it outright before realizing he wasn't on the job. He could accept a compliment. It wasn't a bribe or an attempt to butter him up. Maybe he was just a bit too paranoid for his own good.

"Well... thank you," Angelo said after taking a moment to compose himself. He gave her a quick once over, paying far more attention to her appearance. What should he compliment? Angelo was pretty far off his A game when it came to dating, and after a few terrifying seconds Angelo seemed to come to his senses.

"You aren't so bad looking yourself, you know."
